V Grape ine September 2017 Issue 66

Hier was 29 voertuie en 5 motorfietse.

To me it was a most valuable
experience and all the things we did was just WOW.. and we had delicious food as well
I did a beautiful job and we ate nice
food
I’m happy that I could make a hat; it
was easy for me

Vanjaar se Waitrose konferensie tema was
gewees: “Strategic Alignment with Change”.
Dit het my denkwyse letterlik verander oor sekere aspekte. Ek het ook besef met watter uitdagings
sommige boerderye sukkel.

Some of our Primary Learners took part in the Regional WOW Competition and all of them progresses to the
second leg of the competition. Here they competed against all other schools in the Worcester/Ceres region.
Hoogland Youth had an outing
to watch Krotoa – a Khoi girl
who was raised by Comman-

wife. At first she was a play-

children and late became a

Philani Training conducted a People’s Profit training course over a three day period and was very interesting and valuable information shared. I can indeed recommend this training as it touches on basic aspects of agriculture such as the export market, competition and other processes within our business.
The Hoogland Youth Group are also hard at work with
their projects. These work/play/creative days are
invaluable to their social and emotional development.

For years, women have been told what the role they
are "supposed" to be. Barefoot in the kitchen ... God
made the woman more than just a housekeeper. With
these words 9 August 2017 was celebrated on Mou-
tonshoek the past month.
Celebrating the privilege to be a woman was done in
a special manner with a traditional High Tea and a
conversation about what being a woman entails.
The conclusion at the end of the day was the main
question: Are you at this moment where God wants
you and what He has planned for you? Or is there a
greater purpose with your life of which you have not
yet discovered the truth?
Each Women received a recipe book which was espe-
cially made for them to say thank you for being the
great providers, that they are.
MOUTONSHOEK
Creativity was high on the agenda with the celebration of Women's Day in Hoogland.
Women and children came together to make nice things for themselves and their houses
and of course they ended the day with a ‘bring and braai’. It was a lovely day where
everybody also got to know each other better.

WESTERN-CAPE By being part of the Partners for Possibilities programme with the head
mistress of Bakerville Primary in Gouda we took part in the Community
Building workshop on 10 & 11 August by Dr Rama Naidoo. In our Wine-
lands Group we are 9 business partners with 9 headmasters. Two other
groups joined us for this workshop.
Common challenges have been identified and possible ways of solving
were investigated. During the workshop we realized that most schools
face the same challenges eg non-parental involvement, crime, fear of
change (teachers), low morale, discipline, just to mention a few.
The essential ingredients, qualities, questions and actions to create and
build vital communities filled with possibility generosity, accountability, and deep engage-
ment were identified. Through these workshops support groups were established to as-
sist the headmasters with their everyday challenges. At organizational level, we need to
promote leadership and man-
agement practices in our com-
munities. The common quest is
to change the underlying be-
liefs, mindsets, institutions, and
structures that keep generating
the same cycles of problems.
We need to align our lives with
values and aspirational for a
better world.
PARTNERS FOR POSSIBILITIES
COMMUNITY BUILDING
Bakerville Primary received a donation of fabric and harbedashery. These are used by their MOD center (The Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth (MOD) Programme is an after-school, mass participation programme that provides school-going youth with access to various fun-filled, play-based and modified activities in recreation and sport, as well as in arts and culture, on a daily basis.) and also distributed in the community to women who sew. The photo of the purple dress are made from fabric they received. The ladies are encouraged to make and repair clothing for an income.

ners for Possibility programme.
At Roepersfontein the Karsten Albert Heijn staff (Jacomien Botes, Jacobus Mienies, Karlien Bekker and Marcha Vries)
performs door to door visits at home. This action has multi purposes which benefit teachers, parents, learners and
professional service delivery. It builds the capacity of teachers to enhance parental involvement, show empathy, build
relationship, identify social needs and offer support. Playful activities are facilitated
and families have the opportunity to discuss their challenges and victories. Parents
have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the aftercare and share their con-
cerns. When saying good bye, Bobo Brand replies: “I had so much fun!
Tonight I am going to sleep very well. You go visit us tomorrow again Jacobus?”
Bobo enjoys the home visits!.

To develop leadership Jacobus Mienies and Jacomien Botes facilitate a program (Colour the future) at Pella Intermediate School to re-duce isolation and prepare learners to be en-gaged. Through experiential learning activities leaders are motivated to move out of their comfort zone, to work together and to interact positively. After activities the learners partici-pate in group discussions on what happened, what they experienced, what they learned and how they fit in the future. Thank you to Colleen July (computer facilitator) who assist and support us. Always uplifting to visit our pals at Pella!

Changing lives through Sport
Sports development is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in underprivi-
leged communities. It is our way to change lives for the better. Through sport we
aim to develop self-confidence, team work, discipline and to open a new world for
learners. Blaauwsekop hockey players confess to Jacobus Mienies (of Karsten Al-
bert Heijn): “Coach, we do not sleep the night before a game, because we are too
excited!”
Score at the Oranje-Noord hockey day:
Bobo Brandt, Kashwill and Clinton Pieters and Mortinus Pretorius were
'Man of the Match.'
At Kakamas the team even showed more improvement: Blaauwsekop
won (2-0) against Sternhan, 3-0 against Oranje Noord and even (0-0)
against Kakamas. After each game the players are stronger to handle
a loss and more determent to experience victory.

Unlocking a hopeful future
Roepersfontein and Kromhout aftercare learners enjoy the opportunity to partici-pate in the “X OK” program. Art therapy activities are integrated to improve the physical, mental en emotional well-being of learners. These activities evoke differ-ent feeling states reflecting the inner world of the child. Jacomien Botes and Judy Brandt offer a safe, supportive, contained and therapeutic space to work through loss, difficulties, and concerns. A learner declared that her teachers (Judy Brandt and Leonie Kruger) are like keys in her world – unlocking a hopeful future.
Aftercare learners excel Life is much more than things. School is much more than academic performance. Yet we are very grateful for improvement of academic school results of aftercare learners at Roepersfontein and Kromhout. Thank you to the Karsten Albert Heijn staff for all their hard work and Eleanor Louw (Waitrose) for her support on the Cami program. The following marks spell a success story.
