Running in-situ arch mouldings Arch mouldings are run by fixing a gig stick to the stock of the running mould and spun from a centre block or pin.

Springing line: represents the start and finish of the arc.

Rise: the centre height of the arc from the springing line.

Semi-circular arches are the simplest form of arch to be run, as this can be run from one centre point.

Horseshoe arch designs will run slightly lower than the springing line.

Other types of arch designs will need to be run from more than one centre point.

The trammel board is fixed to the centre of the archway opening. The horizontal centre line of the trammel must be level with the springing line.

When the mould is held in the correct position the trammel rod can be fixed to the stock at one side and fixed to the runners at the opposite side, which allows the mould to form the elliptical arch.

Raking moulds Setting out in-situ mouldings to inclined ceilings.

When running and forming moulds to falls when the ceiling and wall are not at 90º angles, you will need to produce raking moulds.

You will need three running moulds to carry out the moulding work.

The first running mould will form the rake (incline) while the other two running moulds will form the lower and upper horizontal part and the other moulding.

The lower horizontal ceiling mould is termed as acute and the upper horizontal mould is termed as the obtuse angle.

The smaller mould will run the acute angle and the larger running mould will run the obtuse angle.

Raking moulds Setting out in-situ mouldings to inclined ceilings.

To achieve the profile of the upper and lower profile cornice it is required to form the profile by:

1.  Drawing 90º internal angled cornice section between lines of the correct ceiling rake.

2.  The upper and lower sections are developed with vertical lines from the horizontal projections.
