Session 2 Class

Part 1 1:45 pm – 1:50 pm

Task: Ice breaking; Get Ss into groups.

Learners do: Listening, Speaking

Procedure: 1. T introduces herself briefly.

2. T shows a picture of panda (pic 1) to Ss, asks Ss what it is, and initiates Ss’ interest in China and Chinese language.

3. T, via the last step, finds out two Ss who have relatively stronger language capability than the average. T assigns the two Ss team leaders and gives them a team logo.

4. T randomly distributes team logos. Ss who get the same logo belong to a team.

Tip: - In this part, T needs to be careful in distributing team logos. According to Ss’ performance, T should try the best to evenly group lower-level students with fluent students so that they can get enough peer support in learning and team work.

- Pinyin in this part for panda is to provide pronunciation help to students not as a learning task. Students are supposed to form a general and initial impression of pinyin through this step.
