Day One 第一天The most hectic day of the trip was our arrival.Everything was amazing.  We were on the same planet but a different world; everything so different and yetso similar.  Little did we know howincredible our journey would be.

Day Two 第二天The second day we made our way through a maze of shops and stall selling almost anything. It was the Silk market.  A maze of amazing things to see or buy.  Our fascination and excitement grew with the prospect of bartering, being able to purchase things we had neverseen, and seeing people from all over the world here

Day Three 第三天

We traveled to China's Great Wall. It seemed to go on and on, disappearing into the mists and fog.  This day was fascinating and opened our minds to realize what it must have taken to have built this colossal feat of architecture

Day Four 第四天

The Forbidden City was city, exactly as the name suggested.  It was amazing to see centuries of history in one place.  To hear what happened, to think one familylived there.  A massive home, larger than any in the world.

Day Five

We soon arrived in Changsha, and settled the peaceful atmosphere that surrounded us at the Hunan University. At the opening ceremony in a nearbymiddle school we made new friends. Changsha began to feel like a second home.

Day Six 第六天We visited the Yuelu Academy this day.Walking around the campus made it easy toimagine studying there.  The Academy was like nothing we'd ever seen, or would eversee.  To think it taught students for longer than any other school.

Day Seven 第七天

We went to a home stay where we met our hosts we made extremely good friends and are still in contactwith them today. Watching the opening ceremonies to Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition, was fun, as was understanding some of what was said.

Day Eight 第八天

Though not as travel filled as some days, we began our Chinese Language classes.  After going over the basics, we learned how to say our names, our nationality, and family members in Chinese.

Day Nine 第九天

Going to visit the home of Chairman Mao was easy to see the way he grew up in this valley, living a life very different from our own; this makes it difficult, but not impossible to see how he became Chairman Mao.

Day Ten 第十天

Again we hit the books to learn more Chinese.  We reviewed what we'd already learned, and began to learn a few lyrics of a song as well as a poem.  Suffice to say, the teacher made learning Chinese simple.

Day Eleven

We spent our last morning in Changsha in the classroom.  We finished the day with learning how to paint Panda's using ink and brushes.  My panda, unfortunately did not look anything like a panda, though my calligraphy was improving some.

Day Twelve

I couldn't imagine a better introduction to Shanghai than a nighttime cruise of the Bund and Shanghai's skyline on the Huangpu River. We boarded the boat, headed immediately to the upper deck and were astounded by the lights on the other boats and buildings.

Day Thirteen

The final day was bittersweet. We visited the Shanghai Museum and the Temple of God.  The Museum was beautiful the intricate jewelry and beautiful calligraphy was what stole my breath.  The Temple of God seemed to be a maze of stores, some selling the same thing others selling nothing I'd ever seen before. What an amazing and fruitful trip!
