Katie Homer graduated from Ravensbourne in 2015 and was named as one of the ‘faces to watch’ in fashion. All eyes were on her in the GFW16, as many fell in love with her designs that closed the show. Her designs have a very sculptural and unattainability to them that just make them that much more desirable. Capturing both the male and female form; she tweeted “#fishydrag” which explores the concept of creating this extremly over-feminine collection to contrast with the fact that the collection would be worn by men. She says she was inspired by the nightlife in the east end (garish, loud overlays) as well as hoarders ( where the print aspect may come from).

Location I chose to host the fashion event at The Village in Westfield as I believe it employs a very classy; luxurious and feminine vibe, that I also took from the GFW15 fashion show. The materials at the chosen location include glass, crystal and marble which all match and represent the colours seen in the garments- this creating the designers ‘world’. I also get a very modern, if not futuristic mood from the setting and believe it will reflect that garments as something very desirable, current and of the time (both fashionably and politically).

Theme/ World

I have decided the theme of the fashion event will be based/set around a beauty salon. As a very glamourous; self indulgent and sassy vibe was given off from the garments and models in the GFW show, I wanted the event to keep the same qualities. As there is sometimes a comedic element in drag (the performance aspect); I thought it would be quite entertaining to have these ‘fishy’ drag models sat under hair heaters with extravagant dresses and bald heads.

Row of hair curlers/ dryers with models sat in the “salon”. Other models will enter from the back and walk- taking turns exchanging seats as though they have booked appointments.

My vision of the performance side of the show. Bald drag models sat at the heaters, reading magazine, chatting and relaxing while wearing extravagant designs. This creating the stereotype of how glamourous, rich wives spend their days.

Fashion walk layout: Seats at the back (Salon floor), main runway and runway ring. People will view from either ride of the run way, around the ring and also inside the ring.

Political Aspect Drag culture has only recently been widely accepted from the help of shows such as RuPauls Drag Race; as well as artists such as Katie Homer that make

the culture more normalised. Instead of making this a fashion event that depicts and focuses on a political uproar or dilemma, I want this to be a

celebration of the movement/ culture. I want people to see that drag is too an art as well as a performance. If this collection was worn by women; it

would have a completely different meaning or representation- although the designs are very unusual and memorable, I don’t think it would have the

same effect with a different casting.

Katie Homer Announces Autumn and Winter Collection for 2016

Katie Homer’s Autumn/Winter collection explores the drag culture and the publics perception on both the male and female form. The young, chic designer takes inspiration from both the elaborate costuming of drag; along with the essence of sculptural art to create some exquisite pieces. The collection both test peoples reactions as well as celebrating both the LGBT community and drag culture. Named the ‘face to watch’ at Graduate Fashion Week 2016; Homer has kept a respectably low profile as she works on more fantastic pieces. She has decided that she is now ready to release her new collection and expand on the designs. Ahead of the trend; her collection features a variety of styles and techniques, exploration of minimal clothing as well as oversized, bulky overlay coats and accessories makes the pieces very dynamic and eye-catching. As you can see in the logo sketch, her avant guard pieces are very futuristic, extravagant and luxuriousness about them. A very feminine look contrasts with the model casting choice of male drag queens, which is something the Transgender designer herself is something she wants to make a prominent feature in her shows.

The show takes a very fresh and innovative take on fashion events- choosing a theme that both reflects Homers true aims and styles, as well as providing a very original and indulgent vibe. This event would not have been possible to create without the support of Topshop who will be funding the majority of the event. The event will take place in The Village at Westfield White City on 18th November 2016. We hope you can attend this spectacular event, Thank you. Follow us! Synopsis of Fashion Presentation Katie Homer X The Village is a fashion event that has been derived from muses of sculptural art as well as drag culture. The transgender designer being inspired by the night life of the west end and hoarders; has created these pieces that shone onstage at Graduate Fashion Week 2016, and now ready to hold its own show. The theme of the event is beauty, pampering and indulgence. The theme suits the collection perfectly as a self-indulgent and glamorous essence is present in the collection- which will be reciprocated in the layout and theme. Katie Homer called her casting of models "fishy", which in drag means that they are overtly feminine, making this a collection that looks at both the male and female form. The event celebrates the drag community and how far it has come in terms of gaining it's rights and receiving acceptance from the public. For the event, big names in drag and celebrities part of the LBGT community will be invited to pay respect and homage to the names that have brought the community into the light of this acceptance. We think the theme is a strong point of the fashion event, as it will really bring to light and accentuate the fact that the avant guard designs are based on the drag community and tells the story of an expensive, luxurious and dream lifestyle. It acts on the performance side of the drag culture; as a beautiful and memorable show will be put on. Sponsoring from Topshop will make it possible to put on a more extravagant and large event, rather than a smaller budget project. It will be a non-profit charity event with all the money raised being donated to a LGBT charity as this is something Homer has wanted to do for a long time. Held at The Village in Westfield White City; we believe the perfect venue was found a very classy, elegant yet slightly futuristic tone is found there. We want this element of 'devine living' at the event to show just how amazing the designs and pieces are. However the set will have a mixture of classy and slightly 'trashy' embellishments to relate the layout to the original and true base of drag which has a comedic undertone- so we do not want to sell a very high-class, overly unattainable theme that does not relate to the purpose.
