Mr. Chopin is 36 years old.He is 407 lbsHe is unable to perform simple

daily activities like stair climbing, running a little to catch a bus or even squatting on the floor.

He feels miserably depressedHe is also suffering from

hypertension and diabetes

activities, plus he engages in gym and sports.

FitnessPhysical fitness is considered a

measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations.

There are 2 different kinds of fitness

General Fitness

Specific fitness is required to take part in sport at a high level. For example, a cyclist and runner will need exceptional levels of stamina.

Physical FitnessPhysical Fitness

General fitness is also known as Health Related Fitness because it relates to the type of fitness required to cope with everyday living. For example, some strength will be needed to work in the garden or clean the house.

The ability to keep going throughout the day, e.g. delivering post.

The ability to reach in all directions and help prevent injury, e.g. to get a plate from a high cupboard.

The ability to move the body or a limb fast, e.g. to catch a falling cup.
