Geographic situation and bordersThe Northwestregion includeswestern partsof the DanubeandBalkannatural areas-the area betweenthe Iskar Riverin the east andTimok River in the west, between the Danubeandthe northridgeof the Balkan Mountainsin the south.

The northernborder isthe Danube, where are built theonesof the most significant Bulgarianriverports- Lom,Vidin.Thereare alsoferriesVidin-Calafatand Oryahovo-Beckett.On the Danubeis also located NPP"Kozloduy,which increasesthe importance of the northern boundary ofthe region.

On the surface of the region thereare differentrelief forms- parts ofthe Danubian Plainand Stara Planina,due to thediversity ofgeological structure.
