• Divergence of Vector function
Divergence of vector function
• If φ=φi+φj+φk is continuious and differentiable vector valued function in a real field then the divergence of φ is denoted by div. φ and difined as • φ =(i+j+k)(φ i+ φ j+ φ k) =
Problem
• If φ=i+j+k then find divergence at the point (1,0,1)
SolutionGiven that, φ=i+j+k
Now, div. φ = φ
=(i+j+k) (i+j+k) =i+j+k
=2x+2y+2z=2.1+0+2.1=4
(Point: x=1,y=0,z=1)
Result
div. φ =4
