LRT projects in Kurdistan Region (1/2) In 2011 the Kurdistan regional Government (KRG) awarded the feasibility study and Detail design of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) for the City of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Duhok.

After the completion of the Final design the KRG aims at gradually financing the implementation of the LRT projects.

Those cities are mainly depending on private cars transportation and the goal of the government is to provide them with an efficient public rail transportation system.

KRG Future Plans

Final studies for Erbil-Sulaymaniyah-Duhok are completed, only circle line of Erbil is on going

The Kurdistan Regional Government, beginning 2014 planned the implementation of the first two lines of the LRT for Erbil (red and Blue).

Political situation and security threats are delaying those projects

KRG is committed to have the LRT implemented and is evaluating differents forms of project financing (BOT, BOO,BOOT, etc..)
