Kalagarh is spread in over an area of 301.18 sq km which includes also Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary, along with Jim Corbett Park.

It is an abode for many wildlife species in the Shivalik Mountain Range, of the Himalayas. Some of the animals here are tigers, sloth bears, elephants, chital, leopards, barking deer, goral, sambar, porcupines, hog deer, yellow-throated martens and langurs.

It is located at a distance of 48 km from Kotdwar and around 65 km from Nainital. A popular nearby attraction is the Jim Corbett Park, which is the oldest national park and tiger reserve in India.
