Curved EG junction
• EG junction을 구성하는 요소 중 횡경막은 상당히 중
요하다. Pinchcork action은 주로 횡경막 right crus
에 의해서 이루어진다. 정상인에서도 식도와 위 사이
에 약간의 curve가 있다.
• 보통 hiatal hernia가 있을 때 식도에서 위로 진입하
기 위하여 약간의 turn이 필요하다. 정상적인 경우에
존재하는 curve가 강조되어 나타나기 때문이다.

- Diaphragmatic pinch: 38 cm
- End of the esophagus: 35 cm
- Length of hiatal hernia: 3 cm
How the values related to one another is more important than the exact measurement.

Short esophgus
• Hiatal hernia가 있는 환자에서 식도 길이가 짧은 경
우가 많다.
• 식도 길이가 짧아서 hiatal hernia가 발생한 것인지
아니면 hiatal hernia로 인하여 식도 길이가 짧아진
것인지 명확하지 않다. (van Herwaarden. Eur J Gastroenterol
Hepatol 2005;16:831-835)
• 인과관계와 무관하게 short esohagus와 hiatal
hernia가 있는 경우 EG junction의 curve는 없어진다.
