Research Problem: Sorcery, as a malady and problem, has guined
widespread momentum. It is still on constant rise in quantity and
multiple forms. Various techniques are current
relavent to its practice and manipulation. This epidemic has
disseminated among general masses. Among the latter, women are, in
particular, more prone. This is due to their general ignorance and
immatured understanding of Islamic teachings. No wonder, this
generates negative impact on the material, religious and
moral values of Muslim society.
Research Importance: The present research seeks to present
Islamic solution to the crimes associated with sorcery and magic
arts. It begins with an important postulate: Allah Almighty has
shown His Benevolence towards Muslim Ummah through the illustrious
Prophet (Sallah
alahi Wasallam). The Prophet has guided his Ummah to count on
Allahs protection in all situations ___ good and bad. He has also
offered Quran which provides cure from all kinds of
maladies. It also commands humanity to abstain from indulgence
into devilish acts. Guided by such generalizations, the present
study provides candid exposition on sorcery and
grievous dangers that it carries. These dangers cover both lives
___ pre-death temporal life and life after death.
Research Objectives: The present study seeks to cherish the
following objectives:
1. Definition of sorcery, its typology, development and dangers;
2. Recognition of means that lead to sorcery; public awareness of
its dangers
and impact; as well as methods of protection against its
involvement;

3. Exhortations upon Muslim family guardians for its
annihilation and Muslim guides for exposition of its dangers;
4. Presentation of methods ensuring criminal protection against
sorcery; 5. Identification of positive steps related to the
criminal protection against
sorcery and methods of implementation; and 6. Identification of
negative steps related to the absence of criminal protection
against sorcery and methods of their elimination.
Research Questions: The present research seeks to address the
following questions:
1. What is sorcery? What are its typology, developments and
dangers? 2. What are the means that lead to sorcery? How can we
protect people from its
involvement? 3. How can we exhort Muslim family guardians on its
annihilation and Muslim
guides on exposition of its dangers? 4. What are methods that
ensure criminal protection against sorcery? 5. What are positive
steps related to the criminal protection against sorcery? By
what methods are these reinforced? 6. What are important
negative steps that hamper criminal protection against
sorcery? By what methods are these eliminated?
Research Methodology: The present researcher has used
scholastic-theoretical and applied approach. On the theoretical
side, he has used deductive-descriptive-analytical methodology. On
the applied side, he has made use of case studies. The latter were
obtained through his pursuit of cases involving magic and sorcery
in the Riyadh region. He found ten such case studies. Related to
such studies, he has provided illuminations on the nature of cases
involved,
their occurrences, measures undertaken and consequent
analyses.
Important Results: The present study has offered the following
salient findings: 1. The subject under research is of prime
importance. It deals with human needs
in both facets ___ theoretical and applied. In the present age,
its relevance is more crucial. For, it inspires people to repose
their trust and belief in Allah and the destiny. Also, it urges
them to show patience in situations of distress.
2. Magic is based on imagination. Its operational manifestations
are carried out with the aid of Satans (devils).
3. Sorcery or magic arts project swift motions. In the large
part, people are hypnotized. This is forbidden in Sharia. The
person involved in such acts deserves penalty and disciplinary
actions. The latter are pronounced in accordance with the verdict
of chief executive. In general, he is executed. Occasionally,
lesser penalty is also applied.
4. Magic has multi-dimensional typology. In specific, three
forms are quoted ___ real; imaginative and permissive. Most magic
arts reflect a blend of all such types. For, the magician exploits
all the powers that are at his disposal. Most significant, however,
is his solicitation of assistance from Satans (devils).
