Acknowledgment

All Praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, the [One Who] Sustains the Heavens and Earths, Director of all that is created, who sent the Messengers (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon all of them) to rational beings, to guide them and explain the religious laws to them with clear proofs and undeniable arguments. I praise Him for all of His bounties. I ask Him to increase His Grace and Generosity. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah alone, who has no partner, the One, Who Subdues, the Generous,

the Forgiving. I bear witness that our leader Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is His

servant and Messenger, His beloved and dear one, the best of all creation. He was honored with the Glorious Qur’an that has been an enduring miracle throughout the years. He was also sent with his guiding Sunnah that shows the way for those who seek guidance. Our

leader Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) has been particularized with the

characteristic of eloquent and pithy speech, and simplicity and ease in the religion. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, the other Prophets and Messengers, all of their families and the rest of the righteous.

All praises for Almighty Allah who gave me strength to compile this booklet on the vast and massive knowledge of His beloved and last

Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).Great Prophet Muhammad

chooses whom he wishes to move his pen to write about him.

would not have been able to do so without his (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) special attentions

towards me. Unfortunately in our era, within Muslims community some people

remain confused about the personality of Prophet Muhammad

and due to their lack of clarity of mind they use to pass silly and meaningless comments. Same thing happen when we talk about the

knowledge of Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), they tried to prove that

Prophet Muhammad’s (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) knowledge was limited; he even didn’t

know what is behind the wall and so many other things. Thus, this year, 1437 Hijri; on the great and blessed occasion of Mawlid Un-Nabi

I make intention to compile narrations of Prophet Muhammad ,(ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

to let the people know how huge and massive knowledge has

been blessed to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) by Allah

Almighty. May this little effort of lover be accepted in the court of

Aamin!

Knowledge of Prophecy

1

1.1 INTRODUCTION The Holy Quran is a treasure house of Knowledge and Wisdom. It contains references or mentions at more than 800 places relating to knowledge and its derivatives, i.e. the innumerable branches of knowledge which continue to grow as the life advances from stage to stage. Similarly, references to "books" and "writing" are at more than 600 places in the Holy Quran. This clearly indicates the divine emphasis on knowledge and its acquisition at all levels of life. The Holy Prophet

also has laid great emphasis as a compulsive obligation of the

Ummah to seek more and more knowledge and brought forth the blissful significance of knowledge. Fourth rightly guided Caliph „Ali al-

Murtada ( ) has said: “The real dignity to men is through learning.”

The Holy Quran itself bears testimony to the significance of knowledge when it says: “And their Prophet said to them: „Allah has appointed for you Saul1 as a king.‟ They said: „How can he reign over us, whereas we have greater right than him to rule, and he has also not been granted affluence?‟ (The Prophet) said: „Surely, Allah has chosen him above you, and has given him more affluent knowledge and vigor; and Allah (entrusts) with His kingdom whom He pleases and Allah is Infinite, All-

Knowing.”2 The superiority of Prophet Adam ( ) - the epitomic

symbol of human progeny - over angels (and all the creations) was on account of this knowledge alone as Holy Quran says: “And Allah taught Adam the names of all (things), and then presented them before the angels and said: „Tell Me the names of these things if you are true (in your assumption).”3 After some introductory words regarding importance of knowledge,

some people deny that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) has been

blessed by Allah Almighty with Knowledge of the Unseen. They remain always confused about the belief of knowledge of unseen towards

Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and they are not quite

about the concept of actual belief and due to improper clarity about actual belief they pass some silly comments by saying that it is

polytheism i.e. shirk in having belief that Prophet Muhammad

knows knowledge of unseen. This occur due to lack of knowledge and improper clarity of mind. Thus, so first I would like to explain the real

1 Saul stands for Talut. Talut is mentioned in Chapter 2 (The Cow), verses 246-251, as a king appointed by God to rule over the Children of Israel. 2 Holy Quran; Chapter 2, Verse 247 3 Holy Quran; Chapter 2, Verse 31

concept of belief. Actually belief is that Allah the Almighty is the owner of each and every knowledge, He is possessor of knowledge but if He wants to give it with any of his close people then it‟s all in his authority, He can do whatever He wants. Same principle can be applied regarding

knowledge of Prophet Muhammad It is our belief that Almighty

Allah has given the knowledge of unseen to His beloved Messenger

Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). However, it is not possible, nor permissible

to say that the Prophet Muhammad‟s (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)knowledge of unseen is equal

to that of Allah‟s knowledge, since Allah‟s knowledge is His own and the

Prophet Muhammad‟s (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) knowledge has been given to him by

Almighty Allah.

The knowledge of Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is exceptionally vast

because of his constant contact with his Creator. A prophet is not like ordinary human beings. For us sleep is half death but for Prophet

Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), it is not. When Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) sleeps he

does not become unconscious. His sleep cuts himself off from mankind and connects him with undivided concentration to his Creator. We also

believes that our Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) after being informed by

Allah Almighty, is aware of everything that happened and will happen and his knowledge is increasing every single moment, whereas Allah's knowledge is from beginning and his own.

1.2 KNOWLEDGE OF UNSEEN The word knowledge stands for ‘ilm which means “to know”. It is originated from ‘lima y’lamu. The word ‘ilm means to know about the reality of something4.The opposite to knowledge is ignorance i.e. Jihala. Knowledge is power - a great power, with tremendous potentialities and unfathomable capabilities. The ever growing expanse of knowledge in the modern age in all direction has amply unfolded and demonstrated the great significance and influence of knowledge over all things existing on the surface of the earth and beyond. Knowledge of unseen i.e. ghayb is that hidden thing which cannot be perceived by human senses nor can be known through human wisdom. Knowledge of unseen stands for the knowledge which is beyond your physical observation. For instance, if someone tells about past or future news that has not happened yet then it will be knowledge of unseen. If

4 Al-Munjid

someone knows about what‟s going on beyond the wall then this will not be knowledge of unseen because now a days due to highly developed scientific technology we can easily observe with our physical eyes what‟s going on beyond the wall by using cameras. This can only be termed as unseen if someone predicts it without any external source say scientific devices. In the same way, these days we can predict someone identity with the help of DNA finger printing technology and with various other technologies. Knowledge of unseen is only which is predicted without

use of any external source as Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) predict about

the incidents that will happen in the eleventh hour and also he predicted about the identity of many persons that from whom they originated. In the same way, He told us about what will happen after life hereafter. Knowledge of unseen can be categorized as personal knowledge of unseen and bestowed knowledge of unseen. Personal knowledge of unseen belongs to Allah Almighty alone, it is He who has the knowledge of unseen by His own and no one has taught Him, revealed to Him, shown Him, nor has He learnt it with passage of time. This is the knowledge of unseen which has been made (specific) with Allah Almighty in the Holy Quran at many places. As Holy Quran states:

وما يشعرون أيان يبعثون لأرض الغيب إلا الل موت وا ۔قل لا يعلم من فى الس

Say: „Those who are in the heavens and the earth do not have the

knowledge of the unseen (by themselves) except Allah (Who is Self-Knowing), nor do they know when they will be raised up (alive again).‟5

Holy Quran also states:

موت حمن على العرش استوى ﴿﴾ له ما فى الس موت العلى ﴿﴾ الر لأرض والس تنزيلا ممن خلق ار وأخفى ﴿﴾ لأرض وما بينهما وما تحت الثرى ﴿﴾ وإن تجهر بالقول فإنه يعلم الس وما فى ا

لا إله إلا لأسماء الحسنى الل ۔هو له ا

(This) has been revealed by (Allah) Who created the earth and the lofty heavens. (He is) Most Kind (Lord) Who established (His sovereignty) on the Throne (of power and supreme authority over all the systems of the universe, befitting His Glory). (So) whatever is in the heavens (i.e., the upper divine and celestial spheres and spatial terrestrial spheres) and

whatever is in the earth and whatever is in between (i.e., the

5 Holy Quran; Chapter 27, Verse 65

atmospheric spheres) and whatever is beneath the soil to its bed, all are (functioning in compliance with) His (command and control system). And (there is no harm) if, in remembrance and Prayer, you raise (your

voice). He knows the secrets (of hearts) and also the most hidden mysteries. (Then how He will not hear the loud supplications!) Allah is

(His Self-Name) besides Whom there is no God (i.e., believe in Him alone and deny all other false gods). There are (also) many other

Beautiful Names for Him (that speak of His most beautiful attributes).6

Holy Quran also says:

ماء ﴿ا لأرض ولا فى الس لا يخفى عليه شيء فى ا لأرحام كيف ٥ن الل ﴾ هو الذى يصوركم فى ا۔يشاء لا إله إلا هو العزيز الحكيم

Surely, nothing is hidden from Allah in the earth or in the heaven. He is

the One Who shapes your forms the way He wills in the wombs (of mothers). None is worthy of worship but He. He is Almighty, All-Wise.7

Holy Quran states:

And Allah knows what you hide and what you show.8

Holy Quran says:

He surely knows what you utter loudly, and also knows (all) that you keep secret.9

The second category is of bestowed knowledge of unseen which related

to Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), he was given this knowledge by Allah

Almighty, he himself did not know it, but Allah Almighty bestowed the knowledge of unseen on him, this knowledge of unseen is also mentioned at many places in Qur'an so rejection any of these two or having confusion by mixing these two together is a fallacy.

6 Holy Quran; Chapter 20, Verse 4-8 7 Holy Quran; Chapter 3, Verse 5-6 8 Holy Quran; Chapter 16, Verse 19 9 Holy Quran; Chapter 21, Verse 110

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

م يب وما كان الل ليذر المؤمنين على ما أنتم عليه حتى يميز الخبيث من الط ا كان الل ورسله وإن تؤمنوا ليطلعكم على الغيب ـامنوا بالل يجتبى من رسله من يشاء ف ولكن الل

۔وتتقوا فلكم أجر عظيم

And Allah will never leave the Muslims in the situation you are in (now) until He distinguishes the impure from the pure. And, (O common

people,) it is not Allah‟s Glory that He reveals to you the unseen. However, Allah chooses from amongst His Messengers whom He wills (for the knowledge of the unseen). Therefore, put faith in Allah and His Messengers. And if you embrace faith and become God-fearing, there is

a tremendous reward for you.10

Then Holy Quran says:

۔علم الغيب فلا يظهر على غيبه أحدا

(He is) the Knower of the unseen. So He does not inform any (common

man) of His unseen11 Holy Quran says:

۔هو على الغيب بضنين وما

And he (the glorious Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him]) is not at all miserly in (disclosing) the unseen. (The Lord of the Throne has

not left for him any deficiency.)12

1.3 PROPHETS’ KNOWLEDGE OF UNSEEN FROM HOLY QURAN

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

م يب وما كان الل ليذر المؤمنين على ما أنتم عليه حتى يميز الخبيث من الط ا كان الل يجتبى من ر ورسله وإن تؤمنوا ليطلعكم على الغيب ولكن الل ـامنوا بالل سله من يشاء ف

And if you embrace faith and become God-fearing, there is

a tremendous reward for you.13 Allah Almighty does not restrict and retains the knowledge of unseen exclusively to Himself but reveal any part of it to any other person. Allah Almighty has revealed and honoured His apostles as much and as and when He willed, for guidance and enlightenment to cope with the circumstances and situations confronting them, and to fulfill the mission assigned to them. Now from above verse, it can be seen that Allah Almighty chooses his apostles for the unseen. Now we explain it from the Holy Quran that Allah has bestowed knowledge to his apostles.

Holy Quran says regarding Prophet Adam ( ):

And Allah taught Adam the names of all (things), and then presented them before the angels and said: „Tell Me the names of these things if

you are true (in your assumption).‟14

Then Quran says regarding Prophet David ( ):

وقتل داو الملك والحكمة وعلمه مما يشاء ولولا دفع د ۥفهزموهم بإذن الل تىه الل جالوت وءا ذو فضل على العلمين لأرض ولكن الل الناس بغضهم ببغض لفسدت ا ۔الل

13 Holy Quran; Chapter 3, Verse 971 14

Holy Quran; Chapter 2, Verse 31

7

So they defeated them (the army of Jalut [Goliath]) by Allah‟s

command and Dawud (David) killed Jalut. And Allah granted (Dawud) sovereignty and wisdom, and taught him what He wished. If Allah had

not removed one group (that puts into force tyranny and oppression and breaches peace) by means of another (who fights for the protection of human dignity and peace) earth would have been ruined. But Allah is

Bountiful to all the worlds.15

Then Quran says regarding Prophet Solomon ( ):

ير وأوتينا من كل شيء إن هذا لهو د ۥوورث سليمن داو منا منطق الط وقال يأيها الناس عل۔الفضل المبين

And Sulayman (Solomon) succeeded Dawud (David) and said: „O

people, we have been taught the speech of birds (as well) and we have been granted everything. No doubt, this is the most obvious Grace (of

Allah).‟16

Then Quran says regarding Prophet Lut ( ):

ينه من القرية التى كانت تعمل الخبئث إنهم كانوا قوم سوء تينه حكما وعلما ونج ولوطا ءا۔فسقين

And We (also) bestowed upon Lut (Lot) wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town whose people practiced filthy deeds. They

were indeed a people with extremely evil (and) immoral character.17

Then Holy Quran says regarding Prophet Jacob ( ):

تينه حكما وعلما وكذلك نجزى المحسنين ه ءا ۔ولما بلغ أشد

And when he reached his full manhood, We endowed him with the judgment (of Prophet hood) and the knowledge (of the interpretation of

dreams). And this is how We bless the pious with reward.18

15

Holy Quran; Chapter 2, Verse 251 16

Holy Quran; Chapter 27, Verse 16 17 Holy Quran; Chapter 21, Verse 74

Knowledge of Prophecy

8

Then Holy Quran says regarding Prophet Jacob ( ):

ما لا فلما أن جاء البشير ألقىه على وجهه فارتد بصيرا قال ألم أقل لكم إنى أعلم من الل۔تعلمون

But when the bearer of the glad tidings arrived, and he cast that shirt over Ya„qub‟s (Jacob‟s) face, his sight returned at that same moment. Ya„qub (Jacob) said: „Did I not say to you that I know from Allah what

you do not know?‟19

Then Holy Quran says regarding Khidr20 ( ):

تينه رحمة من عندنا وعلمنه من لدنا علما ۔فوجدا عبدا من عبادنا ءا

Then both found (there) one of Our (elite) servants (Khidr) upon whom

We had bestowed from Our Presence (special) mercy and had taught him infused knowledge (i.e., the inspired knowledge of secrets and

gnosis).‟21 From above mentioned verses it has been clear that Allah chooses his apostles and bestows them with knowledge of unseen because Allah‟s knowledge restricted to himself so it was unseen because no one was ware about it before Allah exposes part of his knowledge to his beloveds. Thus, after it is clear that Allah Almighty bestows his all Prophets with

knowledge of unseen then Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) the most beloved

to him, for whom He created the universe, the degree of knowledge bestowed upon him should be highest than any other Prophet.

Allah Almighty says in Holy Quran:

۔وعلمك ما لم تكن تعلم وكان فضل الل عليك عظيما

18 Holy Quran; Chapter 12, Verse 22 19 Holy Quran; Chapter 12, Verse 96 20 Although Khidr ( ) was not prophet but he passed his time in the company

of Prophet Moses ( ). 21 Holy Quran; Chapter 18, Verse 65

Knowledge of Prophecy

9

And Allah has revealed to you the Book and Wisdom and has bestowed upon you all that knowledge which you did not possess22. Mighty indeed

is Allah‟s bounty on you23 ۔

In this verse, Allah says that I give you knowledge which you did not

know. Now if the knowledge that Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) did not

know before Allah bestowed upon it, at that time it was limited to Allah Almighty and everything that knows only Allah is unseen when Allah says that bestowed upon you the things which you did not know, means Allah bestowed upon his beloved the knowledge of unseen which was in the custody of Allah when it was not bestowed to the beloved Prophet

Imam Jalal ad-Din Suyuti ( ) writes upon it:

“Taught to you what you did not know” means that Allah Most High

has told the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) of ahkam and unseen.24

Imam Bedawi ( ) says:

This means “Knowledge of unseen or knowledge of religious matters and ahkam”.25

Imam Ismail Haqqi ( ) says:

This means “Allah told you the knowledge of unseen and secrets by revelation about the things you did not know and this having no knowledge was limited up to the time when Allah revealed you.26

Imam Baghawi ( ) says:

This means “it is from ahkam and knowledge of unseen”.27

Moreover, it mean when Allah revealed upon him, all that he (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) did

not know become known to him. Now if someone wants to say that

22 i.e. that you did not know 23 Holy Quran; Chapter 4, Verse 113 24 Tafsir al-Jalalayn 25 Tafsir al-Bedawi 26 Tafsir Ruh al-Bayan 27 Tafsir Ma‟alim al-Tanzil

Knowledge of Prophecy

10

Prophet Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) did not know about this and this, this would

mean that he want to say that Allah did not taught him about these things. This would be objection on the knowledge of Allah, not on the

knowledge of Prophet Muhammad

Holy Quran says:

This (narration) is of the accounts of the unseen that We reveal to you.

Neither you nor your people knew them before this. So observe patience. Surely, it is the God-fearing with whom it ends well.28

In this verse, Allah says that we reveal upon you the unseen. This verse is absolute evidence for the knowledge of unseen of Prophet

Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص).If someone denies the knowledge of Prophet

Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) then he would be the clear cut denier of the verse of

Holy Quran.

Holy Quran says:

And he (the glorious Messenger [blessings and peace be upon him]) is not at all miserly in (disclosing) the unseen. (The Lord of the Throne has

not left for him any deficiency.)29

In this verse, Allah says that my Messenger Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) is not at

miserable in disclosing the unseen. Now the question arises that from where he discloses the unseen. If he did not know the unseen, then how it is possible that he disclose secrets and unseen knowledge. For one to disclose unseen it is necessary that he must have full command and surety for the knowledge of unseen. And it is obvious Allah Almighty has granted the knowledge of everything to his beloved that‟s why he has the ability to disclose the unseen upon the people of ignorance.

Translation: “One morning, the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) was prevented

from coming to us for Salat As-Subh, until we were just about to look for the eye of the sun (meaning sunrise). Then he came out quickly, had the

Salat prepared for. The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) performed the Salat,

and he performed his Salat in a relatively quick manner. When he said the Salam, he called aloud with his voice saying to us: 'Stay in your rows as you are.' Then he turned coming near to us, then he said: 'I am going to narrate to you what kept me from you this morning: I got up during the night, I performed Wudu and prayed as much as I was able to, and I dozed off during my Salat, and fell deep asleep. Then I saw my Lord, Blessed and Most High, in the best of appearances. He said: 'O Muhammad!' I said: 'My Lord here I am my Lord!' He said: 'What is it that the most exalted group busy themselves with?' I said: 'I do not

Then everything was disclosed for me, and I became aware. So He said: 'O Muhammad!' I said: 'Here I am my Lord!' He said: 'What is it that the most exalted group busy themselves with?' I said: 'In the acts that atone.' He said: 'And what are they?' I said: 'The footsteps to the congregation, the gatherings in the Masajid after the Salat, Isbagh Al-Wudu during difficulties.' He said: 'then what else?' I said: 'Feeding others, being lenient in speech and Salat during the night while the people are sleeping.' He said: 'Ask.' I said: 'O Allah! I ask of you the doing of the good deeds, avoiding the evil deeds, loving the poor, and that You forgive me, and have mercy upon me. And when You have willed Fitnah in the people, then take me without the Fitnah. And I ask you for Your love, the love of whomever You love, and of the

deeds that bring one nearer to Your love.'” The Messenger of Allah

said: “Indeed it is true, so study it and learn it.” 30

wherein he left nothing but mentioned (about) everything that would happen till the Hour. Some of us stored that our minds and some forgot it. Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said repeatedly: Ask me, and (it was at this juncture

that 'Umar knelt down and said): We are well pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our code of life and with Muhammad as the

Messenger (of Allah). Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) kept quiet so long as

'Umar spoke. Then Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: (The Doom) is near; by

Him, in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, there was presented to me the Paradise and Hell in the nook of this enclosure, and I did not see good and evil like that of the present day. Ibn Shihab reported: Ubaidullah b. 'Abdullah b. 'Utba told me that the mother of 'Abdullah b. Hudhafa told 'Abdullah b. Hudhafa: I have never heard of a son more disobedient than you. Do you feel yourself immune from the fact that your mother committed a sin which the women in the pre-Islamic period committed and then you disgrace her in the eyes of the people? 'Abdullah b. Hudhafa said: If my fatherhood were to be attributed to a black slave I would have connected myself with him.44 , 45

44 Sahih Muslim, Book 43, Hadith 179 45 All these above mentioned narrations are the strong evidences for the vast

and massive knowledge of Prophet In these narrations, the Prophet

was asked about things which he did not like, but when the questioners insisted, the Prophet got angry. He then said whoever likes to ask me about anything he can do so and I shall reply as long as I am at this place of mine. Then a man got

up and asked, ''Where will my entrance be, O Allah's Messenger The

up and asked, "Who is my father, O Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)?" The Prophet

replied, "Your father is Hudhaifa. “Now, someone can think that Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

asked he companions to ask about the knowledge of Shariah. This is (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

wrong and baseless interpretation because the meaning of the Prophet‟s commandment is clear from the questions asked by the people present there. One asked him about the future that what will happen with me in life hereafter,

Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) answered him; he didn‟t say that I don‟t know about that. In the

same way, another person asked him about the news of past i.e. about his

father. The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) answered him with surety. This means Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)

even knows the lineage and DNA of the people. From all these narrations it is

obvious without any if and buts that Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) has the knowledge of future

and past too.

Translation: There was a Christian who embraced Islam and read Surah-al-Baqara and Al-`Imran, and he used to write (the revelations)

for the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص). Later on he returned to Christianity again and he

used to say: “Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) knows nothing but what I have written

for him." Then Allah caused him to die, and the people buried him, but in the morning they saw that the earth had thrown his body out. They

said, “This is the act of Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and his companions. They dug

the grave of our companion and took his body out of it because he had run away from them.” They again dug the grave deeply for him, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out.

They said, "This is an act of Muhammad (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and his companions. They

dug the grave of our companion and threw his body outside it, for he had run away from them.” They dug the grave for him as deep as they could, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out. So they believed that what had befallen him was not done by human beings and had to leave him thrown (on the ground).49,50

Sufyan and his companions. He said: I know nothing about Abu Sufyan, but Abu Jahl, Utba, Shaiba and Umayya b. Khalaf are there. When he said this, they beat him. Then he said: All right, I will tell you about Abu Sufyan. They would stop beating him and then ask him (again) about Abu Sufyan. He would again say', I know nothing about Abu Sufyan, but Abu Jahl. 'Utba, Shaiba and Umayya b. Khalaf are there. When he said

in prayer. When he saw this he finished his prayer and said: By Allah in Whose control is my life, you beat him when he is telling you the truth, and you let him go when he tells you a lie. The narrator said: Then the

Abu Bakr passed by, I asked him about a Verse from Allah's Book and I

asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by and did not do so. Then `Umar passed by me and I asked him about a Verse from Allah's Book, and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by without doing so. Finally Abu-l-Qasim (the

Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)) passed by me and he smiled when he saw me, for he

knew what was in my heart and on my face. He said, "O Aba Hirr (Abu

Huraira)!" I replied, "Labbaik, O Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)!" He said to

me, "Follow me." He left and I followed him. Then he entered the house and I asked permission to enter and was admitted. He found milk in a bowl and said, "From where is this milk?" They said, "It has been presented to you by such-and-such man (or by such and such woman)."

He said, "O Aba Hirr!" I said, "Labbaik, O Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)!" He

said, "Go and call the people of Suffa to me." These people of Suffa were the guests of Islam who had no families, nor money, nor anybody to depend upon, and whenever an object of charity was brought to the

Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), he would send it to them and would not take anything

from it, and whenever any present was given to him, he used to send some for them and take some of it for himself. The order off the Prophet upset me, and I said to myself, "How will this little milk be enough for the people of As- Suffa?" thought I was more entitled to drink from that

milk in order to strengthen myself, but behold! The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) came

to order me to give that milk to them. I wondered what will remain of that milk for me, but anyway, I could not but obey Allah and His Apostle so I went to the people of As-Suffa and called them, and they came and asked the Prophet's permission to enter. They were admitted and took

their seats in the house. The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, "O Aba-Hirr!" I said,

"Labbaik, O Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)!" He said, "Take it and give it to

them." So I took the bowl (of Milk) and started giving it to one man who would drink his fill and return it to me, whereupon I would give it to another man who, in his turn, would drink his fill and return it to me, and I would then offer it to another man who would drink his fill and return it to me. Finally, after the whole group had drunk their fill, I

reached the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) who took the bowl and put it on his hand,

looked at me and smiled and said. "O Aba Hirr!" I replied, "Labbaik, O

Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)!" He said, "There remain you and I." I said,

"You have said the truth, O Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)!" He said, "Sit down

and drink." I sat down and drank. He said, "Drink," and I drank. He kept on telling me repeatedly to drink, till I said, "No. by Allah Who sent you with the Truth, I have no space for it (in my stomach)." He said,

"Hand it over to me." When I gave him the bowl, he praised Allah and pronounced Allah's Name on it and drank the remaining milk. 88,89

It is a heartily phenomenon. It is one of the basic senses of human soul. It is a generalized bodily consciousness or sensation, appreciative or responsive awareness or recognition, an emotional state or reaction. For instance, love, hate, kindness, jealousy, pride, anger, bitterness, envy, fear, desire etc. all are felling. Feelings exists in heart and no person can say, what does other person feels about him because it is heartily

Translation: I came to `Aisha the wife of the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) during the

solar eclipse. The people were standing and offering the prayer and she was also praying. I asked her, "What is wrong with the people?" She beckoned with her hand towards the sky and said, "Subhan Allah." I asked her, "Is there a sign?" She pointed out, "Yes." So I, too, stood for the prayer till I fell unconscious and later on I poured water on my head.

After the prayer, Allah's Messenger (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) praised and glorified Allah and

said, "Just now I have seen something which I never saw before at this place of mine, including Paradise and Hell. I have been inspired (and have understood) that you will be put to trials in your graves and these trials will be like the trials of Ad-Dajjal, or nearly like it (the sub narrator is not sure of what Asma' said). Translation: The Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) entered the garden of the

palm trees of Banu al-Najjar. He heard a voice and was terrified. He asked: Who are the people buried in these graves? The people replied:

Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص)! These are some people who died in the pre-

Islamic times. He said: Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the fire, and the trail of Antichrist. They asked: Why is it that, Messenger of

He said: When a man is placed in his grave, an angel comes

to him and says to him: Whom did you worship? Allah then guides him and he says: I worshiped Allah. He is then asked: What was your opinion of this man? He replies: He is Allah‟s servant and His Apostle. He will not then be asked about anything else. He will then be taken to his abode in Hell and will be told: This was your abode in Hell, but Allah protected you and had mercy on you substituted for you an abode in Paradise for it. He will say: Leave me so that I may go and give glad tidings to my family. He will be told: Dwell. When an infidel is placed in his grave, an angel comes to him, reprimands him and asks him: Whom did you worship? He replies: I do not know. He will be told: You neither knew nor did you follow (the believers). He is then asked: What was your opinion on this man? He replies: I held the opinion that the other people held. Translation: We went out with the Messenger of Allah

accompanying the bier of a man of the Ansar. When we reached his

grave, it was not yet dug. So the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) sat down and

we also sat down around him as if birds were over our heads. He had in his hand a stick with which he was scratching the ground. He then raised his head and said: Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment in the grave. He said it twice or thrice. The version of Jabir adds here: He hears the beat of their sandals when they go back, and at that moment he is asked: O so and so! Who is your Lord, what is your religion, and who is your Prophet? Hannad's version says: Two angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: My Lord is Allah. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: My religion is Islam. They will ask him: What is your opinion about the man who was sent on

a mission among you? He will reply: He is the Messenger of Allah

They will ask: Who made you aware of this? He will reply: I read Allah's Book, believed in it, and considered it true; which is verified by Allah's words: "Allah's Book, believed in it, and considered it true, which is verified by Allah's words: "Allah establishes those who believe with the word that stands firm in this world and the next. “The agreed version reads: Then a crier will call from Heaven: My servant has spoken the truth, so spread a bed for him from Paradise, clothe him from Paradise, and open a door for him into Paradise. So some of its air and perfume will come to him, and a space will be made for him as far as the eye can see. He also mentioned the death of the infidel, saying: His spirit will be restored to his body, two angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. They will ask: Who was the man who was sent on a mission among you? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. Then a crier will

call from Heaven: He has lied, so spread a bed for him from Hell, clothe him from Hell, and open for him a door into Hell. Then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him, and his grave will be compressed, so that his ribs will be crushed together. Jabir's version adds: One who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him, having a sledge-hammer such that if a mountain were struck with it, it would become dust. He will give him a blow with it which will be heard by everything between the east and the west except by men and jinn, and he will become dust. Then his spirit will be restored to him. 112,113
