’n Week voor 16de verjaardag sterfjong leerder van Hoërskool Lydenburg DIS met skok dat sommige leerders by Hoërskool Lydenburg eers Dinsdagoggend na die langnaweek van die afsterwe van ’n skoolmaat gehoor het. Stefanie Nel (15) ’n graad 9 leerder is die naweek oorlede na ’n breinoperasie. Ds Fred Wilson het Dinsdagoggend die skoolkinders met ’n pragtige boodskap gelaat en berading was beskikbaar vir kinders wat dit nodig gehad het. Stefanie se ma, Mary-Grace Nel, is vroeër vanjaar aan kanker oorlede. “Sy was ’n pragtige, gebalanseerde kind, wat baie presies was op haar skoolwerk. Sy sou op 15 Augustus haar 16de verjaardag gevier het.

Sy het ’n pragtige persoonlikheid gehad, akademies goed presteer en aan verskeie buitemuurse aktiwiteite deelgeneem. Namens die beheerraad, skool, personeel en leerders spreek ons, ons innige meegevoel uit. Ons dink aan almal wat so nou by haar betrokke was, haar pa Frik, suster Liandri (graad 11), haar familie en vriende. Dankie aan almal wat soveel liefde en omgee aan haar betoon het,” het mnr. Johan Loots, skoolhoof gesê. Geen inligting oor haar roudiens was teen druktyd bekend nie. Die skool sal boodskappe uitstuur of kan geskakel word by 013 235 2111 vir inligting.

The body of a baby, suspected to be a new born was found in Lydenburg at the municipal dumping site. It was found by Bidvest Protea Coin , who in turn

informed the Lydenburg SAPD about the body. The body was in a plastic bag. The Highlands Panorama News does have the photo of the baby but it is extremely graphic. The SAPS opened a case and it will be investigated.

Investigators and witnesses of the body were extremely shocked. If anyone has information about this case please phone the Lydenburg SAPS at 013 235 2222.

This emphasises the need of persistent higher economic growth without which South Africa’s economic problems cannot be alleviated‚” the chamber said.“Present circumstances provide an opportunity to change direction towards a more normative (and) acceptable policy approach serving longer-term economic growth imperatives.Minister implores mines, unions to save jobs“It becomes apparent that even the NDP (National Development Plan) and certain aspects thereof need revisiting given the current stance of the world and domestic economy.”SACCI said South Africa was becoming more and more aware of the stark economic realities individual countries faced notwithstanding economic ties and relationships with the world economy‚ Africa‚ the BRICS formation or other countries.“Globalization implies that countries cannot escape from developments in the world economy - directly or even indirectly through impacts on second tier countries. fter millions of Rands were used to build the Leboeng ACommunity Hall for the

community of Burgersfort it is evident that the building has fallen into disrepair. The hall was built in 2010 and has been standing empty for the past five years. Donkeys and cows are walking through the building and manure is over the whole floor. A DA councillor, Robert Mahubedue made the state of the building known. “Nothing happens here, the building is used for nothing. We are shocked that so much money was used and now the building is not even utilized,” he said. According to reports the initial tender for the building was R1.2 million in 2010, but it escalated to a curious R2.7 million. A complaint was made against the Greater Tubatse Municipality by the Auditor General to find out why the building cost was increased without reason. Vandals damaged the empty building, windows were broken, doors stolen and even the fence around the building was stolen. It has come to light that homeless people use the Leboeng community hall as a

shelter from time to time. This is a direct waste of the taxpayers money.

Ek het dit met oop arms aangegryp en ek en my kinders en P i e r r e s e v e n n o o t i s s a a m Casterbridge toe. Vlak voor die verhoog in die voorste ry. Wat ’n

belewenis! Dark side of the Moon, The Wall en The Division Bell. Kliphard, met elektriese kitare wat roer. Dié ouens mag maar. Pierre het natuurlik lankal die lig gesien en is ’n groot Pink Floyd aanhanger. Andrea leer nog van regte musiek sonder rekenaars. Mel Botes en sy musikante doen dit net so goed soos die ou manne. En van ou manne gepraat, dit was interessant om te sien hoeveel van die gaste outoppies en ou tannies was. En hoe baie jong mense bygewoon het. Fenomenaal!So, ten spyte van al die waarskuwings is ek nog OK en my siel is nie hel toe nie! Dit was baie lekker.

Oprah Winfrey praat van daardie - A-ha oomblik.Die oomblik wat die lig aangaan en jy verstaan hoekom dinge so uitwerk en dan kan terugsit en sê ‘A-ha’. Tussen die minister van polisie, die regering se binnegevegte, Malema se nagwaak voor die hof (die saak is toe teruggetrek - miljoene rande was ter sake let wel). So, tussen al hierdie goeters was daar ’n helder liggie in die nuus. Die pragtige wolfhond Django wat met sy hanteerder herenig is. Dit was vir my ’n A-ha oomblik. Die teken dat daar nog tussen die sleg iets goeds kan gebeur.Na twee jaar is die snuffelhond nou ’n Suid-Afrikaner. Hy het ‘figuurlik’ sy weg oopgesnuffel om weer by Sheldon Holland uit te kom. Dié twee het saam gewerk in Afganistan waar Django plofstof uitgeruik het. Toe Holland moes terugkom SA toe het hy Django belowe hy sal hom kom haal. Dinsdag op die radio het Holland herken dat Django nog elke aand op sy bed geslaap het. Hulle is Vrydag herenig nadat Django ook ’n tyd in kwarantyn moes terugbring. Almal weet wat hoe lekker is ’n hondesoen, die maagkrap wat die hond laat kriewel van lekkerkry. Maar na so ’n ongelooflike storie kan ons almal gerus terugsit en dink ---- A-ha. Dis waaroor die lewe gaan - daardie klein dingetjies wat nie altyd aan die groot klok gehang word nie.

Staaltjies van perde en dinge

Een van die perde baie hard aan die werk in die bos.

Deur me. Nuki Lategan van Lydenburg: Ons oupa Andries het in die veertiger- en vyftigerjare 'n plaas in die Kalahari gehad in die distrik van Postmansburg. Op die program 'Groen Namibië” Sondagaande op kykNet het hulle daardie wêreld weer gewys. Droë woestyn en halfwoestyn omgewing. Weens skaarste aan oop waters, sink hy boorgate om genoeg water vir sy boerdery te kan hê. Daardie nag, toe hy 'n aar raak boor, het perde van oral oor die water geruik en hul dors kom les. Van hierdie wilde perde van die Kalahari het hy sy werksperde gekies en met hulle begin teel. Hy het dan ook hierdie perde na Transvaal gebring waar hy hier in die Lydenburg distrik geboer het op Kalmoesfontein wat bo in die berge op die Weltevredepad uit is. Van hierdie perde het soms weggeloop waarvan nie almal teruggekeer het nie. Al met die bergreeks langs, soos die kraai vlieg is dit glad nie ver van Paardeplaas nie (op die Longtompas). Kan dit wees waar die plaas se perde vandaan gekry het? Gert se spoghings lyk ook nes die perde daar. Die sweetvos met die lang wit bles en maanhaardos en stert. Op 'n keer het daar perde uit die Ooskaap kom aansluit by oupa se perde. Hierdie Cloeteperde was bekend as ’n geharde ras met 'n unieke wil, wat goeie werksperde was.Uit die Nooitgedachters het 'n derde groep aangesluit om die bloed te temper tot 'n geskikte ras wat oor 'n sagter temperament beskik het. So ontstaan die boerperd wat nie net 'n sterk werksperd was nie, maar baie bruikbaarder as die ryperde. Daar is bees en skaap mee opgepas en dis hierdie perde wat 'n groot groep uitgemaak het wat verskeie toere meegemaak het. Die eerste was die tog na Majuba, groot deelname aan die Groot Trek se 150 jaar

feesvierings en bittereinders na Pretoria, alles vanaf Lydenburg. Daar vloei perdebloed in ons are, want van kleintyd af is jy op die saal. So het jy en jou perd gewoond geraak aan mekaar en het jou ryskool afrigting 'n aanvang geneem. Juis omdat die boerperd so 'n geskikte ras is, word hulle oral ingespan en gebruik as ry-, trek-, werks- en skouperde. Hulle het ook deelgeneem aan uithouritte.Vele staaltjies kan vertel word van belewenisse van perd en ruiter of hanteerder.Daar word heelparty take op die plaas met hul aangepak, geskoffel met 'n Mahoneskoffel in groente en brondelande. Wanneer groot moderne planters misrye geplant het, boet die perd en ry plantertjie maklik al die misrye in. Bruikebare perde vir die ruiterskuns in al sy fasette. Gert het op sy tyd 'n spogperd afgerig vir die skou, terwyl hy toesig hou oor die boerderybedrywe. Ons oudste, Dries, het 'n legendariese perd in matriek gehad wat geskiedenis gemaak het waar ookal hy was. Deesdae word die perde aangewend in die bosbou, waar hulle boomlengtes uit die bos sleep. Hulle kan baie effektief gebruik word, veral wanneer selektiewe uitdunning van bome plaasvind. Een perd sleep gemiddeld drie ton hout per dag tot op die pad. Ons het het ook 'n tog na Orania aangepak in Februarie 1994. Daarmee het ons ook die wonderlike boeregasvryheid deurgaans ondervind. 'n Vriendelike boer het spesiaal lussern vir ons aangery nadat ons die vorige dag by hul boerevereniging demonstrasie verby gery het met die wa. Ons kleinkinders kom gereeld vakansies plaas toe om te kom perdy en piekniek te gaan hou onder by die swemgat.Op die lekkerste troues was perde die middelpunt van die dag. Die bruid het het met 'n perdewaentjie as bruidskar gery en is deur haar strooimeisies op perde vergesel. Die bruidegom en sy manne het gespog met boerperde, blink geroskam, al te spoggerig wat by die troue in die berge opgedaag het. Daar is die Lategans se beste vriende ons perde. Waar ons is, waar daar beplan word of gewerk word is perde betrokke.

Deel van ’n gemeenskapskoerant se lekkerte is dat lesers hul stories kan deel. Me. HE Department of Environmental Affairs, has welcomed the sentence against Bosveld Phosphate (PTY) Ltd in relation to T

environmental degradation and water offences. These charges relate to unlawfully and intentionally or negligently causing a situation in December 2013 which led to water containing polluted substances being released into the Selati River which forms one of the tributaries of the Olifants River.The Olifants River eventually flows through the Kruger National Park which is one of South Africa's biggest drawcards for tourism. The waste water that was released had the potential to cause serious damage, not only to the immediate environment, but also to water resources of Mozambique.Quick intervention by the authorities was therefore critical. At the time SANParks, together with the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation, ensured that immediate measures were implemented by Bosveld to ensure that the risk to the environment was reduced. These measures included dredging the impoundment facilities to create extra storage capacity and a number of other activities in order to ensure that another spill did not occur. In total, R48 million rand was spent in implementing these measures.The criminal prosecution of this matter was led by the Green Scorpions of the National Department of Environmental Affairs. After a thorough investigation of this matter, Bosveld pleaded guilty to all the charges of pollution between the periods of December 2013 and March 2014 at the Regional Court for the Regional

Division of Limpopo in Phalaborwa on 30 July 2015.In terms of Section 34 (1) and (3) of the National Environmental Management Act of 1998, the accused was ordered by the court to pay an amount of one million, four hundred and fifty thousand rand (R 1 450 000) within 14 days from the date of the sentence, in addition to a number of suspended sentences (fines adding up to an additional R1 100 000) for contravention of the National Environmental Management Act and the National Water Act. The Department of Environmental Affairs will use the remedial measure amount for the purpose of proper execution of the Green Scorpions enforcement duties, environmental rehabilitation, enforcement training and also for the benefit of SANParks and the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation. The Department of Environmental Affairs is mandated to protect the environmental rights of every citizen by ensuring they have an environment that is not harmful to their health, for the benefit of present and future generations through reasonable legislative and other measures that prevent pollution and ecological degradation.“The Department of Water and Sanitation, the South African National Parks and the Limpopo Department of Economic Development and Tourism have played a key role in advising, supporting and ensuring that emergency measures were implemented during and after the spill incidents,” said Mr Albi Modise, Spokesman for the Department of Environmental Affairs.Modise commended the work of the Green Scorpions and further warned that this should serve as a message for would-be offenders and encouraged companies to adhere to legislative provisions.

MAZDA has revealed the first image of its updated BT-50, along with the news that the re-styled bakkie will start production in Thailand next week. NCE again Hoërskool Lydenburg has completely dominated the Mpumalanga's Spur Schools MTB O

League. A total of 61 schools have already participated in the league this year in an attempt to qualify for the national finals at Bekker School in

October. Hoërskool have earned second and third positions. Schools earn points for every single participant, but better results earn more points, which add team spirit and boosts the determination of most riders. With four cyclists among the top 10 in

Uplands College and Nelspruit

the vast and hugely competitive Youth Men's category, these Lydenburgers scored 129 points before the contributions of the other 28 riders in that category were added, and so it goes on. A total of 86 points were earned by two riders among the top five in the Junior Women's category. No less than 58 of their students participated in the qualifiers leading up to the provincial final at Mankele, and Hoërskool

Lydenburg will line up there on 22 August with 671 points in the bag. It will take place at the Gustav Klingbiel Nature Reserve.Riders, teachers and parents as well as Longtom

Cyclingare all hugely committed to support these youngsters. The school owns twelve bikes of which three were donated and the rest bought with money raised through competitions. Particularly the development riders share these bikes, which the local bike shop maintains.
