The construction ideas in scenography are very different then construction in architecture. Sets are built for a short period of time and exterior and interior of the same set are often built on different locations. As a Construction Coordinator, my job was to keep track with drawings and construction, to be aware of amount of material that is used and to help to translate artistic drawings to carpenters, sculptorers, metal workers and painters. In TV series Game of Thrones most of the scenogra-phy is done by using simple materials like real wood, planks, boards and plaster. This kind of construction gives various opportunities for painters to finish it any way its necessary. Process of putting patina on bare walls is what gives the life of the scenography and creates wanted mood. Being surrounded with more then 40 carpenters, painters, sculptors, riggers, plasterers and civil engeneers, gave me a very good overview of how it is all done and helped a lot for my further understanding of how scenography is actually done.

Bollywood blockbuster with biggest Indian film star of all time was set in todays Dubrovnik, Cro-atia. It is an action film about Indian superstar chased around the world by his obsessed fan.As a Set Decorater my job was to adjust actual loactions of Old Town Dubrovnik for action sets accoarding to directors wishes. The idea was to present Dubrovnik to Indian market just the way it is, but with added props that our heroes can break, hit, fall over or crash. By using what is found in actual location, and readjusting it to be breakable, we managed to create the atmospere of todays Old Town. Sets for the chase around city walls and narrow al-leys was designed with everyday objects used as opsticals. The main set of the bar that’s been crashed by motor bike over and over again was intirely made of balsa wood and was crashed and rebuilt around 50 times during the shooting. This project was the best one to show that in film world immagination has no limits, all is possi-ble. Set Decoraters job is to try to bring this immaginary world as close as possible to audience without making it look fake and too ‘film-like’.

Film follows five american marines during war time in Sarajevo, looking for legendary hidden treasure under the lake. The year is 1995 and Sarajevo is almost completely destroyed from the bombing. The film takes place in various everyday Sarajevo locations like a bar where marines spend evenings or small store in near town - Zvornik. All of the store items and what is seen in the bar, like beverages, food, boxes, even the private documents like drivers licence or IDs, had to be made up and all the labels were supposed to be designed. The atmospere of the time, and images of war Sarajevo were main inspiration to design beer bottles, wine, cigarettes, matches, hard liquor bottles, ... The design was supposed to be simple, and in the period but still colourful and catchy for camera. Property department as well takes care of all other objects that actors are holding. One of oth-er taskes, beside the labels, was to design wooden boxes used as painting crates and an old trolley.

opening event, december 2016

The opening ceremony for new supermarket Super Konzum Radnička was an event in which Konzum store wanted to show their retail history starting from small Unikonzum shops that were present in Croatia during ‘70s and ‘80s and as well the development of their shops till today. In colaboration with Kapulica studio, creative agency specialized for events and opening cere-monies, we came up with the idea of rebuilding a model of an old store that had all the products from that time. In oposite to an old store we wanted to show how Konzum became the leader in bussines and trade through the concept of flying labyrinth. The fyling labyrinth consist of flying panels with stories about their progress and as well photos and videos. Set in the hallway before the entrance to the supermarket, it forced all the guests to pass it and read their retail history. The creshendo was the flying screen that, like labyrinth panels went up to ‘sky’ and showed us the new, modern Konzum supermarket.

Remake of the film Papillon from 1973 was shoot in fall 2016 in Serbia and Montenegro. Set it the actual locations of French Guayana, job of a Set Designet was to reinterpret existing buildings as scenography. The ‘new’ story follows the ‘old’ one, and showes more of our heroes life before he got to Le Bagne. The Production Designer’s concept was to show the glamour of Paris in 1932, when the story starts, with finest elemenst of Art Nouveau and end it with showing the horror of French Guayana prison. To be more authentic, all the sets were actually built. Without any help of green screens or CGI, the whole Le Bagne prison complex was built in wilderness of Montenegro. All parts of set were reachable by foot and camera was able to be positioned in every corner. This documentaristic approach gives better overview and manages to communicate the real atmosphere very cred-ibly.
