Perseverance pays off forGrand Prix victors

Based on the final tallies, perseverance would appear to be thekey to success in Tom Kat's Grand Prix competition. Of almost 3000runners to have participated in one or more of the events, only 70TRRC members have qualified for official club ranking.

The Tom Kat series, the first attempt by the TRRC at this typeof format, started in March and ran through the end of July. Sevenlocal favorites were designated as as grand prix races. The SaintPatrick s Day , DiLaurentiis Pasta Pace, North County News, DebbieSchramm, Jan Peek lOKs, Lincoln Hall 5 miler and Father Mooney»s 8miler comprised the field. To be eligible a runner must have completed at least five of the seven events and been a bona fide memb e r o f t h e c l u b . 3 0 - 3 9In Compiled I. "Exercise is absolutely essential to good health. It's the cornerstone for anycomplete effort to reduce the risk of heart attack and sudden death. It's also amajor key to an energetic long life."

Talk about thelling us things we want to hear! The above quotation is the opening paragraph of Dr. Kenneth Cooper's latest book, Running Without Fear, a bookwhich he states is written in response to the reaction to the death of Jim Fixx. Asmany of us who do a bit of running can attest, naysayers came out of the woodworkwhen news of Fixx' death while jogging was published. And I think it is fair to saythis tragedy threw a scare into the jogging/running community.

Dr. Cooper's book reviews some of the myths which have arise from the fitnessboom, and step by step presents a plan for any person to run/exercise safely ^ without fear. I th ink most runners wi l l get something f rom this latest work of thea e r o b i c s d o c t o r .

Dr. Cooper's book reviews some of the myths which have arise from the fitnessboom, and step by step presents a plan for any person to run/exercise safely 5 without fear. I th ink most runners wi l l get something f rom this latest work of thea e r o b i c s d o c t o r .

It seems he had sneaked over tolasgow, and from there caught a bus forhe two hour ride to Edinburgh, wherehere was a football (soccer) match goingn. He got on the bus heading back tolasgow all right, but the poor lad was soired, he fell asleep. Small as he was, none noticed that Harry didn't get off whenie bus got to Glasgow where the rest of

passengers disembarked, so wee Harry3t a free ride back to Edinburgh, which5 also slept through. Jt was not until

O WEST YOUNG HARRY

Born on October 8. 1938, Harry Neeson13 just under 18 when he set sail for theS. In fact, he was on board the shipat carried him to the west side of theind when the Scottish Army sent a noticehis former home that it was time for

thereafter, when he was 21, to be exact,Harry helped keep the peace by enlistingin the U.S. Army. He served for just overfour years, most of the time in Germany.

Kenneth Cooper's latest book. Running Without Fear, a bookwhich he states is written in response to the reaction to the death of Jim Fixx.
