[4th year seminars]4th year seminars are the culmination of a student’s four years of study at APU. These highly specialized subjects allow students to research a topic of interest and write a thesis on it over a period of one year.

[3rd year seminars]In 3rd year seminars, small numbers of students work closely with professors to increase their expertise through researching,presenting and discussing selected topics. Simultaneously, through actual practice students master the research methods and investigative analysis techniques considered necessary for every area of study and which are the fundamental skills required for undergraduate research.

◎基本ルール（１）ゼミ履修を開始するには、その１つ前のセメスターで申請する。

（2014秋スタート → 新規申請期間 2014年6/4 – 6/11）

（２）一旦ゼミ履修を開始したら卒論まで自動で履修登録（継続）※基本的には２年間の継続履修を推奨する

（３）ゼミをキャンセルするには、その一つ前のセメスターで申請する※通常科目の履修登録期間ではキャンセルできないので注意！

◎Basic Rules（１）Apply for a seminar the semester before you plan to register for it.

(2014 fall → New Application Period: Jun. 4- Jun. 11, 2014)

（２）Once you have registered for a seminar, the University will continue to automatically register you for it through Undergraduate Thesis (continued registration).

※As a rule, 2 years of continued registration is recommended.

サブゼミ / Sub-seminar◎基本ルール（１）３回生演習（専門演習）とセットで履修可能

（２）自学部だけでなく他学部のゼミも履修可能（ただし、単位は自由選択にカウント）

（３）（メインゼミと異なり）セメスター毎に申請が必要

（４）次の条件を満たした場合にのみ履修できる・メインゼミに申請をして合格した学生・メインゼミの担当教員がサブゼミ履修を認める・サブゼミの担当教員が履修を認める・メインゼミとサブゼミの時間割が重複しない

サブゼミ / Sub-seminars◎Basic Rules(1)Sub-seminars can be taken together as a set with

3rd year seminars (Major Seminar).

(2)You can register for a sub-seminar from your college or from another college.

（If you register for a sub-seminar from another college, the credits will be counted as general electives)

(3)You must apply every semester for your sub-seminar.

(4)You can only register for a sub-seminar if you meet all of the following criteria:

・Your main seminar application was accepted.・Your main seminar instructor gives you permission to register for a

sub-seminar.・The sub-seminar instructor gives you permission to register.・There is no conflict between the time schedule for your main seminar

and the sub-seminar.

(1)アカデミック・オフィスサイト内[2014年秋セメスター開講3・4回生演習]の【志望理由書のダウンロード】をクリックし、ダウンロードする。

(2)必要事項を記入する

(3)志望理由欄の記載方法は自由ですが、Ａ４１枚程度（1200程度）を目安に作成して下さい。

(1) Go to the Academic Office website and click on “Seminar Subjects,” then “3rd/4th-year Seminars” and then “Download the Seminar Essay Form” to download the essay form.

(2) Fill in the necessary items.

(3) You are free to write your essay however you wish, however it should be 1 A4 sheet of paper in length (about 1200 characters).

(5)アカデミックオフィス・ウェブサイトで合否を確認する

サブゼミに申請するHow to apply a sub-seminar class

Only students who have been accepted into a main seminar or who are currently taking a seminar are eligible to apply for a sub-seminar.

(1) Download the sub-seminar application form.

(2)Consult with the instructor of your main seminar and get permission to register for a sub-seminar. Have your instructor sign the application form.

(3)Consult with the instructor of the sub-seminar you would like to take and get permission to register. Have the instructor sign the application form.

(4)Submit the signed application for to the Academic Office during the application period.

(5)Check the Academic Office website to see if you have been accepted or not.

学位記への分野名称記載/Listing of Area of Study on DiplomasＡＰＭ 2011年度カリキュラム学生のみ

For 2011 curriculum students in the College of International Management only

2011年度カリキュラムの国際経営学部学生が各学修分野に配置された科目、コア科目、演習科目から30単位以上修得した場合、学位記に当該分野名称が記載されます。どの分野の３・4回生演習科目を

履修した場合でも、全ての学修分野に単位がカウントされます。

Those who have fulfilled the graduation requirements will be awarded a bachelor’s degree upon graduation. In addition, students who complete 30 or more credits from a specific Area ofStudy, Core Subjects or Seminar subjects will also receive the Area of Study on their diploma. Credits earned for all APM 3rd and 4th-year seminars will count toward this requirement regardless of the area of study.

There are a set number of slots per Seminar class for which the instructor will select students for from among the applicants. Students are recommended to list up to three top choices.Please refer to the class list to see the number of slots per class.

【質問】希望するゼミには必ず入れますか？【Question】Will I be able to get into the Seminar I applied for?

A. Blackboardに記入をした志望理由により選考されます。クラスによっては、事前の、または、選考の面談が課されるクラスもあります。申請前にゼミ説明会や教員との個人面談を利用して、ゼミでの学習内容を考えておくことが大切です。

Applicants are chosen based on the application essay they write on Blackboard. There are classes where students may be interviewed ahead of time. It is important that students think carefully about the contents of the Seminar and make proper use of the Seminar explanation sessions and consultation time with the instructor before applying.


【質問】ゼミの選考はどのように行われますか？【Question】 What is the seminar screening process?

A. 3回生演習は、４回生演習（「卒業研究」・「卒業論文」）を履修するための非常に重要な科目として位置づけられています。3回生演習の単位修得は申請の前提条件ではありませんが、専門的理解を深めるために2年間継続して履修することをすすめます。

APU places great emphasis on 3rd year seminar classes as they are a vital preparatory element for the 4th-year research seminar. Although there is no specific credit requirement for applying for a 4th-year seminar subject, APU strongly recommends taking seminar subjects continuously for two years.


【質問】４回生演習のみを履修することは出来ますか？【Question】 Can I take a 4th year seminar course only?

◎基本ルール（１）留学中のゼミ履修は不可 → 留学前のキャンセル期間でキャンセル（２）復帰後にゼミは再開可能 → 復帰セメの一つ前のセメに新規申請（３）８セメスター復帰の場合 → 留学中（７セメ）に遠隔指導を仰ぐ

※申請時に交換留学の派遣が内定しない場合 → 申請期間中に通常申請

◎Basic Rules(1) You cannot take a seminar while you are studying abroad.

→ Cancel your seminar during the cancellation period prior to your departure on an exchange program.

(2) You can resume taking a seminar after you have returned to APU. → Submit a new seminar application during the application period the

semester before you will return to APU.(3) If you return to APU during your 8th semester

→ Take a seminar via remote instruction during your 7th semester while on theexchange program.

※If during the application period you do not yet know if you have been accepted to an exchange program → submit an application as usual during the application period.
