Definition:

1. A disease with the manifestations of cerebral agenesis, mental retardation and dyskinesia of the limbs.

2. Can be characterized to “five kinds of flaccidity” and “five kinds of retardations”. .

4. Sequelae of congenital cerebral agenesis or cerebral impairment caused by various factors in western medicine.

Causes and Pathogenesis :

1. Deficiency of the liver and kidney (prenatal) resulting in the essence and blood failing to infuse the sinews and bones .

2. Insufficiency of the original qi resulting in failing to warm the muscles and skin in order to nourish the 4 limbs.

3. Insufficiency of food or milk, improper nursing, severe disease leading to impaired spleen and stomach.

4. Deficiency of qi and blood leading to fail to nourish muscles, sinews and bones.

5. Contraction of toxic heat which enters the Jueyin channel internally resulting in qi and yin deficiency that causes disharmony of qi and blood failing to nourish the sinews and vessels.

6. Obstruction of wind and phlegm in the collaterals resulting in stasis of qi and blood, fails to free flow into the sinews and vessels.

Clinical Manifestations:

Chief symptoms:

i. Inability to move the limbs.ii. Accompanied by mental and development

retardation.

Clinical Manifestations:

1. Liver-Kidney deficiency type

Stated manifestations with:

i. Bones and skin retarded development.ii. Delayed standing, walking and teeth

generation. iii. Pale complexion.iv. Lassitude.v. Preference to lying down in bed. vi. Retarded intelligence.vii. Pale tongue.viii. Thin white tongue coating.ix. Thready pulse.

Clinical Manifestations:

2. Qi and Blood deficiency type

Stated manifestations with:

i. Atrophic muscles and flaccid sinews.ii. Weakness of the neck and head.iii. Mental retardation.iv. Poor appetite.v. Loose stools. vi. Pale complexion.vii. Lassitude.viii. Pale tongue.ix. Thin white tongue coating.x. Thready, weak pulse.

Clinical Manifestations:

3. Phlegm-Blood stasis type

Stated manifestations with:

i. Dull reaction.ii. Aphasia.iii. Dementia.iv. Flaccidity and numbness of limbs. v. Pale purple tongue with petechia on the edges.vi. White greasy tongue coating.vii. Wiry and slippery pulse or Rough pulse.

Treatment : General principle

• Regulate spirit and strengthen the brain.• Open orifices.• Replenish intelligence.• Replenish post-natal foundation.• Regulate qi and blood.• Resolve blood stasis and remove obstruction.

Principle channels:

1. GV channel.2. Large intestine channel.3. Stomach channel.4. EX-O points.

1. GV 20 Baihui 百会 .

2. LI 4 Hegu 合谷 .

3. ST 36 Zusanli 足三里 .

4. EX-HN 1 Sishenchong 四神冲 .

Prescription explanation (Principle acupoint):

1. GV 20 Baihui 百会, EX-HN 1 Sishenchong 四神冲 .

• Channel acupoint of the GV which enters the brain, chosen to strengthen the brain and extra ordinary acupoint which is used to calm the mind and replenish intelligence.

2. LI 4 Hegu 合谷: • Yuan-Source acupoint of the LI channel, chosen to

treat head and face illness and regulate qi and blood., resolve blood stasis and remove obstruction of collaterals.

3. ST 36 Zusanli 足三里 :

• He-Sea and Lower He-Sea acupoint of the ST channel where qi of the organ originates, passes and stays, chosen to replenish post-natal foundation.

1. HT 5 Tongli 通里 .2. CV 23 Lianquan.

For weakness of neck:

For lower limb paralysis:6. GB 30 Huantiao 环跳 .7. GB 34 Yanglingquan 阳陵泉 .
