The Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform5.0 certification exam is for programmersexperienced using the Java programminglanguage.

For candidates who already hold an SCJPcertification under a prior version and want to becertified under a more recent version, Sun providesSCJP 5.0 Upgrade exam.

SCJP 5.0 Upgrade certification Exam covers lesser number of topics and costs lessthan the SCJP 5.0 certification exam. This will become evident from the furtherslides.

version of SCJP

Exam type: Multiple Choice and Drag & Drop

Total number of questions: 46

Maximum time allowed: 105 minutes

Pass score: 27 questions correctly out of 46(almost 58%)

Question Format Question format is multiple choice, including some

drag-and-drop questions. The number of correct answers is given in case of

multiple choice questions with multiple answers. There are hardly any questions with true/false

answers. There are a lot of questions with three (or

sometimes two) correct answers. Question with radio button answers means that

only one answer is correct. Questions vary from very easy to very difficult, but

mostly difficult. No credit is given for partially correct answers in

case of questions with multiple answers.

Registering for the Exam

Exam is administered through a company calledPrometric. They provide computer-based testingservices for their clients.

Prometrichas more than 4800 testing centerslocated in 121 countries around the world.

Test is paid for through the purchase of vouchers.

Exam voucher must be purchased before signingup at a local Prometric Testing Center.

Exam voucher is valid for a period of 1 year fromthe date of issue/purchase.

NB: Each exam voucher is valid for one exam and only be used at an AuthorizedPrometric Testing Center in the country for which it was purchased. Please beaware that exam vouchers are non-refundable for any reason. Be sure to obtain thecorrect voucher for the programmer exam.

Taking the Exam

After having purchased the exam voucher, contact anauthorized Prometric Testing Center near you.

Reach the testing center at least 15 minutes beforethe test start time, and be prepared to show two formsof identification, one of which should be a photo ID.

You cant bring anything with you into the testing

room. You will be provided something to write on andsomething to write with.

During the Exam

About 30% of the questions in the SCJP 5.0 examare Drag and Drop type. The answer gets reset ifyou try to review it. So, always complete anddouble-check your answer before moving awayfrom a Drag and Drop question.

It may be helpful to solve Drag and Drop questionson a sheet of paper before actually attemptingthem in the test.

After the Exam

After you finish the test, the computer screen willdisplay your result (whether you have passed ornot). You will also receive a printed copy of thedetailed results.

Within a month or so, you will receive yourcertificate from sun in the mail if you passed theexam.

However, if you fail to pass the exam, you can takethe exam again, but you will need to purchaseanother voucher and wait for 2 weeks before

retesting.
