With the termina- tion of the contract with PBI, cur- rent tennis professionals Kip Koross and Art Santos will no longer be on staff at Sports Core. As of September 7, 2013 Sports Core will assume direct manage- ment of its tennis program with consultation provided by Precision Club Management, a branch of College Park Athletic Club (CPAC), which was founded in 1977 in Deerfield, Illinois. CPAC, one of the largest tennis programs in the country, has a net- work of ten clubs across the Mid- west in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana and hosts more than 50 tournaments each year, including top level junior tournaments. It has produced top player like Andrea Yaeger (#2 WTA ranking) and Brendan Evans (#1 junior world ranking) and continues to be a place where current pros both train and work. “Art and Kip have spent count- less hours teaching our members about the game of tennis. Their passion and love of the game have not wavered in the combined 45 years they have served Sports Core members and guests,” said Keller. “Because of these outstanding gen- tlemen, the decision to terminate our management agreement with Peter Burwash is one of the most difficult ones we have ever had to make, however, with the majority of our tennis revenue going di- rectly to PBI, we are limited in the degree to which we can grow the game - and subsequently our busi- ness. While we look forward to the future of tennis at Sports Core, we are grateful for Art’s and Kip’s contributions and will miss them dearly” Art Santos is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, where he obtained a B.A. in Lib- eral Studies and Teaching Certifi- cation in Elementary Education. He was the Hawaii State Colle- giate Champion in singles and doubles, and was voted Athlete of the Year, holding the number one ranking in men's singles in Hawaii for five years. Through PBI, Santos has managed tennis pro- grams in Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, the United Arab Emirates, Sultanate of Oman, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Nevis and in the United States. Art also participates in the Peter Burwash International Tennis Show, sometimes referred to as the “Harlem Globetrotters of Tennis,” performing in 95 coun- tries. Boniface (Kip) Koross, who was born and raised in Kenya, began his tennis career in Kenya and first came to the United States on a ten- nis scholarship at Midwestern State University in Texas. There he played the number one position on his college team and re- ceived a B.S. in biol- ogy. He was also selected to represent his country at the World University Games in Mexico, and after graduation, played competitively on the U.S. Penn Circuit before joining PBI. Through PBI, Koross has taught or coached junior teams in China, India, Hawaii, Austria, Germany and Spain, and is able to teach ten- nis in English, German, Spanish and Swahili. He has been a long- time resident of Kohler with his wife, Toni, and two sons Aidan and Evan. Aidan currently plays tennis for the University of Dayton, and has competed in USTA Men’s Pro Circuit tournaments. The following is a summary of the incoming tennis program through Precision Club Manage- ment’s consultation: Brian Wu- Tennis Management Consultant (Precision Club Management) Brian is co-founder of Precision Club Management, a leading ten- nis club management and consult- ing company in the nation. Brian oversees the operations of College Park Athletic Club East, College Park Athletic Club West, and For- est City Tennis Center, all of which are owned/managed by Precision Club Management. As the flag- ship club, CPAC employs over 50 tennis instructors and personal trainers. Among its 2000 members are 1700 tennis players, including a junior program of 1200 tennis players. In addition to running the day- to-day management and consulting operations at Precision, Brian also continues to teach 10-12 hours of Sheboygan Lutheran-Kohler Central Lakeshore Conference Champion’s By Suzanne Fink The Sheboygan Lutheran Kohler Varsity Baseball team wrapped up the Central Lakeshore Conference title July 3rd with an 11-1 win over Elkhart Lake. "Winning our conference is always a priority for us," said head coach Tim Muth. "A regular season championship identifies the team that played the best base- ball from late May until now. Although we hit a few bumps in the road, to finish 13-5 in conference play, we are proud of what we accomplished this season. The CLC has strong teams, talented ball players and excellent coaches and to win is quite an honor.” The Crusaders hit .333 as a team, living up to expecta- tions at the plate. The big hit- ters-Nate Tures, Calvin Stefanczyk and Noah Fink emerged with the bat and set the stage for others around them like Phil Case, Paul Vi- cente and Charlie Tobin to make noise offensively. On defense, Bauer, Case and Tures consistently made the routine plays in the infield while Tobin, Wickert and Vi- cente executed the fundamen- tals in the outfield making for easy outs and wins. The pitcher/catcher duo of Ste- fanczyk-Fink was a huge piece of Lutheran-Kohler’s success this year. Stefanczyk had 7 wins and 1 loss in con- ference play. With all but one returning Senior from this year’s starting line-up, you can expect great things for next year’s team. Congratula- tions boys! Several players were named to this year’s All-Central Lakeshore Conference Roster. The First Team line-up in- cluded pitcher Calvin Ste- fanczyk (junior); catcher Noah Fink (sophomore); in- fielder Nate Tures (senior). Second Team nominations went to outfielder Paul Vi- cente (junior); and infielder Phil Case (junior). Honorable Mention: outfielder Charlie Tobin (sophomore); and in- fielder Jacob Muth (sopho- more). Three players were also named to the Wisconsin Base- ball Coaches Association All- State roster. Calvin Stefanczyk and Noah Fink earned Honorable Mention and Nate Tures was named to the First-team All-State Aca- demic roster with a GPA of 3.75 or better. Sports Core terminates contract withtennis program management provider

Members of Kohler’s SportsCore Health & Racquet Club re-ceived a letter in August frommanager Jason Keller notifyingthem of the club’s difficult deci-sion to terminate its contract withPeter Burwash International (PBI),which has provided tennis man-agement services to the SportsCore since 1986. As of September 7, 2013 SportsCore will assume direct manage-ment of its tennis program withconsultation provided by PrecisionClub Management, a branch ofCollege Park Athletic Club(CPAC), which was founded in1977 in Deerfield, Illinois.

CPAC, one of the largest tennisprograms in the country, has a net-work of ten clubs across the Mid-west in Illinois, Wisconsin, andIndiana and hosts more than 50tournaments each year, includingtop level junior tournaments. It has

produced top player like AndreaYaeger (#2 WTA ranking) andBrendan Evans (#1 junior worldranking) and continues to be aplace where current pros both trainand work.

Art Santos is a graduate of the

Fall Folliesan Annual“Fun”raiserto be heldOctober 11

The Kohler School Foundation isexcited to invite the entire commu-nity on Friday, October 11, 2013 toFall Follies. This year’s “Diamondsand Denim” themed evening is de-signed for casual elegance with fan-tastic live entertainment and a silentand live auction benefitting the stu-dents at Kohler Schools. Last year’sFall Follies saw its best attendanceyet with well over 300 guests. Thisyear, with the cooperation of corpo-rate sponsors and community, theFoundation expects an overwhelm-ing turnout. Hosted at the AmericanClub, the live sounds of the EddieButts Band will entertain with musi-cal talent that spans several genres.

The annual fundraiser, in its sev-enth year, has grown each year tohelp raise funds beyond the annualbudget of the school. In the past yearalone, the Kohler School Founda-tion’s Annual Fund has been able toprovide funding for two completemobile laptop labs, overhead projec-tion units and additional SmartBoard technology for faculty, highschool advisory team building eventsincluding experiential leadershiptraining for Senior students, andbusiness training through JuniorAchievement to its Milwaukee facil-ities where elementary and middleschool students learn how businessesfunction in a real-world setting. Allof these initiatives were made possi-ble from the generosity of its donorsat the Fall Follies event.

ation Department added a populartennis program to its lineup ofyouth programs. Ten and UnderTennis, also called “quick start”tennis, and Futures Team Tennisare sponsored and promoted by theUnited States Tennis Association asits preferred method of tennis in-struction for beginning players age12 and under. 10 and Under Tennisdivides beginning players intothree age groups – 6 and under, 7/8,and 9/10. Play takes place on amodified shortened court with alower net and low-compressionballs. All players receive a brandnew age-appropriate racquet andlessons are designed to promotehand-eye coordination, movementand agility, and basic stroke devel-opment. Futures Team Tennis is forplayers 11-12 years old that aretransitioning between the beginnerand intermediate skill levels. Fu-tures players play on a full-sizedcourt but use a “green dot”, orlower compression ball. All Fu-tures players receive a brand newadult-sized racquet. Futures playerscontinue to work on their tech-nique, movement, and tacticsthrough drills and match-play situ-ations. 10 and Under and FuturesTeam Tennis makes the game moreaccessible - and more fun - by al-lowing kids to continue to developtheir game in a fun team atmos-phere. Three 8-day sessions wereoffered this summer and more than90 kids from the area participated.Participants are instructed by areahigh school tennis players who

offer encouragement and tips onimproving on-court skills.

Also back again this year wasUSTA Junior Team Tennis. Theprogram is sponsored by the She-boygan County Tennis Associationand all matches are played at theKohler School courts and theSports Core. JTT is a 6-week, com-

petitive team format tennis league.Players are matched up each weekin singles, doubles, and mixed dou-bles matches. Play is sanctionedthrough the USTA and all matchesare reported to the USTA website.Three levels of play were offered –14’s Intermediate, 18’s Intermedi-ate, and 18’s Advanced. More than

70 kids from Sheboygan, Kohler,Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, andManitowoc participated in theleague.

Tennis is a sport that gets kidsmoving, improves balance, agilityand hand-eye coordination, andcan teach self-confidence and self-assurance. It’s a lifetime sport that

can be enjoyed by players of allabilities. See you on the courts!!

The Kohler Blue Bombers fifthand sixth grade boy’s baseballteam placed first in the second an-nual Kyle J. Neurohr MemorialScholarship Baseball Tournamenton Saturday, July 20, 2013. The

team beat the Sheboygan RiverDogs, Sheboygan Falls and Ply-mouth to win the tournament. Kyle Neurohr, the tournament’snamesake, was a 2009 graduate ofSheboygan North High School

who was tragically killed in a caraccident in October of 2010. Thetournament was created by his par-ents to honor Kyle and help sustaina scholarship that has been set upin his name.

Halverson makes third straight trip toState

Ryan Halverson, aKohler resident whograduated from She-boygan Falls HighSchool capped off hissenior baseball seasonwith a trip to the statetournament. In the sec-tional semifinal againstTwo Rivers, Halversonwas the starting pitcherfor the Sheboygan Falls Falconsand kept Two Rivers at bay whilethe Falcons cruised to an easy 12-2 win in five innings. Halversongot the win and also score three

runs in the decisive vic-tory. In the champi-onship game against theKewaskum IndiansHalverson was two fortwo at the plate and withan RBI as the Falconsdefeated Kewaskum 3-1to earn their thirdstraight trip to state in atight hard fought con-

test.At the summer sate champi-

onship at Kapco Field at Concor-dia college, the Falcons faced WestBend West, a team that had de-

feated them earlier in the year. TheFalcons got off to a poor startfalling behind 8-1 before a furiousrally in the final two innings madethe score 8-7. Halverson finishedthe year in the on deck circle as thelast out was made with men onsecond and third.

“All in all it was a wonderful sea-son and it marked the first time inschool history that Falls had beento state for baseball three years ina row. Halverson has a lot of won-derful memories we will never for-get,” said Pat Halverson, father ofRyan.

The Kohler 7th/8th Grade BoysBaseball team finished a very suc-cessful season ending the year un-defeated and champions of theMid-Shore Baseball League. Play-ers on the team were Alex Phillips,Ashton Elmendorf, Ben Maki, BenTengowski, Brady Stefanczyk (not

pictured), Caleb Adams, Jim Con-klin, Josiah Boyd, Lucas Knuth,Luke Silvestri, Matt Childs,Michael Kral, Michael Stock, NickFalconer and Sean Farrell. Theteam was coached by MarcusKnuth, John Elmendorf, Scott Sil-vestri and Steve Boyd.

The Pace Makers, a 3-on-3 bas-ketball team of seventh grade girlsfrom Kohler and the Village ofCleveland took second place at theGus Macker tournament that washeld on August 4 in Sheboygan.

Team members included SamiRenzelmann (Kohler), CeceliaZielke (Kohler), Alyssa Frey

(Kohler) and Marlee Strysick(Cleveland). The girls competed ina total of six games over the twoday tournament, winning four ofthe games, and falling to the firstplace team twice. The team wascoached by Bridgitt and SteveZielke.

The Kohler High School BoysVarsity Soccer team wrapped uptwo-a-day practices with a scrim-mage against soccer alumni onJuly 31st. There were ten formerplayers who came back to playwith the varsity team on their lastday of pre-season practices. “It

was great to see everyone,” saidHead Coach Scott Feltner. “This isa long standing tradition and wehave always had a great turnout. Inthe past five years, eight of ouralumni have gone on to play col-lege soccer. It’s a fantastic oppor-tunity for our current players to

meet and play with guys who havehad so much success in the sportboth in high school and college.”

The alumni represented fourconference championships, sixWIAA Regional championships, aWIAA Sectional Championship,and a state final appearance.

Kohler teen wins essay contestfor yoga teacher training

Madeline Kelly, an 18-year-oldKohler High School graduate isnow a certified yoga teacher. Theyoung and enterprising studentwas the winning essayist in a con-test to receive $3500 in yogateacher training at Midwest PowerYoga in Sheboygan Falls. MidwestPower Yoga, owned by longtimeKohler resident DeborahWilliamson, offers a scholarshipcontest to area youth twice yearly,and Madeline’s winning essayabout yoga, contribution and heal-ing, piqued owner Debbie’s inter-est immediately.

“Madeline is inquisitive, intro-spective & very talented. I've al-ready got her on the schedule atMidwest Power Yoga as a substi-tute teacher over the summer. Iloved having her in training,” saysWilliamson. “Her essay wasthoughtful and passionate and I

knew she’d make a GREAT yogateacher. It’s the perfect college job,and Madeline will now have op-portunities to teach at yoga studios,gyms and schools wherever shegoes,” said Williamson.

Madeline begins a double-majorin International Studies & Com-munication Arts at the University

of Wisconsin - Madison this fall.She hopes to pursue a career in therealm of journalism or documen-taries, with a long-term goal ofworking in diplomacy or the non-profit sector. She plans to teachyoga along the way to support allof her many passions.

“I want to be a yoga teacher be-cause I believe that bettering my-self on the physical, mental, andspiritual level empowers me toenact change in the lives of others,which is something for which Ihave great passion,” says Made-line. “I believe yoga inspires peo-ple to find purpose in life, and Iwould like to spread that positivemessage while I have the chance.”

Andrew was born and raised in

Sheboygan and has played tennisat Sports Core since his youth.Andrew played high school tennisfor Coach Vorpahl at SheboyganNorth, where he reached thepodium at the State Tournamentthree times, highlighted by a third-place finish in Division-I Singles.Upon graduation, Andrew playedfor one year at Butler Universityand then transferred to UW-White-water. As a Warhawk, Andrew setthe single-season wins record andwon over 150 matches in 3 years,playing both singles and doubles.His team reached the Sweet 16 inthe Division-III NCAA Tourna-ment and finished the 2012 seasonranked 18th - the best finish inschool history. Andrew was a two-time team captain and MVP. In ad-dition to his playing experience,

Kim Evans- Assistant TennisProfessional

Kim has taught tennis for 20years and during that time has de-veloped teaching methods thatstress “fast track results” for indi-viduals looking for immediate im-provement in the level of theirgame. His lessons concentrate on“match play” type drills and astrategic understanding of aplayer’s strengths/weaknesses andhow to best utilize those strengthsfor better results. Kim's playingbackground includes two years as

the #1 ranked player in the Floridasection in the Men's 45 Division.He also played on the FloridaInter-Sectional Team that com-peted against other USTA Sectionsin Tucson, AZ.

Kim was the Men's VarsityCoach for Fond du Lac HighSchool for the past seven years andwas recently appointed men’s andwomen’s Head Varsity Coach atthe University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Additionally, Kim ispresident of the management con-sulting firm “Managing for Re-sults.” In his position, which henow works on a part-time basis, hespecializes in the areas of customerservice, management and organi-zational development and the re-cruiting/selection of professionalcandidates.
