    UN Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam John Hendrasaid.

    It is a very important message for the Vietnamese

    government, as they are rapidly moving in economicgrowth, to focus on adaptation and mitigation on abroader environmental side but also particularly theimpacts of climate change,

    The UNDP report says of the Mekong Delta: Climate changeposes threats at several levels. Rainfall is predicted to increaseand the country will face more intensive tropical storms. Sea

    levels are expected to rise by 33 cm by 2050 and 1 meter by2100.

    Climate change is posing imminent threat to Viet Nams progressin human development, according to the United Nations

    Development Program (UNDP).

    Implementing Resolution No. 60/2007/NQ-CP dated

    of December 3rd 2007, the Minister of NaturalResources and Environment, Dr. Phm Khi Nguyn,has required responsible bodies to finalize the

    Outline of the National Targeted Program on ClimateChange Adaptation to submit to the Government inthe shortest time.

    The Minister said that the draft program shouldupdate researches on climate change scenarios in

    Vietnam for the period of 2010-2100 and proposed

    adaptation measures to cope with climate change inthe coming time.

    1.The goal is to establish the National TargetedProgram on climate change adaptation, policy

    dialogue on climate change, experience sharingand coordinate among stakeholders in climatechange activities focusing on agriculture, water

    resources, and coastal zone; to strengthencapacity for climate change adaptation in VietNam; and

    2.Advise and assist for MONRE to strengthen theeffectiveness of legislation implementation andnegotiation skill on climate change, to identify

    content and method for managing pressing issuesof climate change in Vietnam.

    1. To promote common approaches to climate change policyand management, including convergence of legislation and

    standards;2. To strengthen cooperation on transboundary climate change

    matters and the resolution of problems;

    3. To facilitate cooperation within multilateral climate change

    forums and implementation of the obligations of a Party tothe United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Changeand the Kyoto Protocol;

    4. To collaborate in the analysis of common climate change

    concerns, to share information, to raise public awareness ofclimate change issues, and to promote climate changetraining.

    5. Build bridges to increase communication between Scientists,Policymakers, NGOs and Communities on climate changeadaptation and mitigation.
