    Projector on cart with wheels

The projector is located in the back of the room on a cart with wheels to be out of the way when

not being used, but can quickly and easily be rolled to the front of the room when needed.

    Plant

The plant is placed by the window for direct sunlight to ensure growth, but the reason I have the

plant in the classroom at all is to increase student satisfaction. Plants offer visual beauty, reduces

    tension, and increases attention.

    Clock and Pencil Sharpener

The clock is situated near the schedule on blackboard one and almost in the center of room to

ensure that the students and I, the teacher, are always on schedule for the different lessons of the

day, lunch, recess, and dismissal. The pencil sharpener is located just below the clock for easy

accessibility for the students. This way the pencils can be sharpened right away upon arrival in

    the morning.

    Cupboards above student lockers

The cupboards above the students lockers will hold upcoming read aloud books, student

rewards, extra copies of textbooks, and the miscellaneous items that need to be stored. The items

in the cupboards are things that are not used by the student; therefore, they are out of reach and

    used only by the teacher.

    Carpet Area

There is an open area in the front of the classroom where whole group discussion and instructionwill take place. The class can easily reach this area from their seats, through the wide aisles.

There is also a seat on the side of the carpet for the teacher to provide instruction.

    Blackboard 1

I have designated blackboard one as the focal point of whole group lessons. The board is in the

front of the students desks and is effective for whole group lessons when students need to work

at their desks and when the projector needs to be used. Class rules will be located on the far left

side of this board and visible to all students in the class. The daily class schedule will be located

on the far right side of the board just underneath the clock. This makes everything clear for the

    students and teacher.

    Blackboard 2

The second blackboard is more fixed. It consists of assigned groups, class list to determine who

line leader is for the day and a manageable word wall for the students and teacher to manipulate.

There isnt always enough wall space in the classroom; therefore this blackboard contains

important information for the students. The information on the board does not need to be taken

    6

down or provide students with space for whole group lessons because this board is not the focal

point of whole group lessons as blackboard one is the focal point.

    B. OperationalTeacher record-keeping proceduresI believe in an organized grade book that allows me to assess the learning of every student at any

given moment. It is crucial to show the results and progress of each student at all times. I wouldalso keep track of attendance with their scores as a quick reference tool.

    New students in the room

I would appoint one member of the class to have the new student follow for a few days to ensure

the new student is on track with the activities, rules, and procedures. This member of the class

will come from the list of classroom helpers designed for all students to hold a role throughout

    the classroom day.

Keeping the classroom orderly and kids desks clean

Research proves that a classrooms cleanliness and orderliness influences the students behavior

and the ability of a teacher to teach. I will have the students go through their desk on a daily

basis at the end of the day. This will ensure they have what they need to take home, not

collecting other things unintended for a desk, and unreturned books of the library or my

classroom collection. Students glue and scissors will be kept in a community area to access

    when needed.

    Displaying student work

I will designate one bulletin board to display the students best work for one week to a month ata time. The best work will be one thing we have done in class they enjoyed doing to display to

their classmates. I chose to display the students work for a longer period of time because I want

to ensure that the students are given plenty of time to review their peers work and show off.

Part Two: Disciplinary Policies and Professional

    Ethics

    A. Discipline PoliciesEstablishing group rules and expectations

On the first day of school, thoughtful consideration will

go into designing no more than five rules for the

classroom. I will have listed three important rules I

believe are important for my classroom and will ask my

students for their input to make two more rules and guide

  • 8/3/2019 Classroom Mgt Plan

    7/14

    7

them with my input and if they feel we should add anything else to our rules. I will chart their

ideas on a T-chart with descriptions for students to know what the rule or procedure looks like

    and sounds like.

    Consequences for breaking class rules

    Consequences may involve the following:

y Verbal warningy Time outy A note, phone call, or meeting with parentsy A visit to the principals officey A written or verbal apology from the student

A record of infractions and consequences will be maintained in each students daily folder.

These will be used for communication purposes.

    School rule infractions

Students who break school rules will follow the school handbooks policy depending upon theinfraction. If not handbook policy is stated for breaking school rules then the previous

consequences listed above will be in force.

Student disrespect you or other teachers

If a student disrespects me I will not show emotion to the student. I will make it clear that I am

in charge. I will tell the student(s) that they will lose playtime if I have to speak to them during

the teaching lessons. I will to stop talking and wait quietly for the student(s) to notice and I

count how many minutes they wasted. It will either be 3 minutes or 5 minutes of their playtime

they will lose out on. They will get the hint real fast. Another thing I would do is write a word

on the board for example: RECESS. I will explain that if I have to stop during the lesson then I

will erase a letter. If there are some letters on the board by the end of the day depending on how

many letters then they earn extra recess. The students can also earn marbles to cash in as a class.

I tell them that they can earn marbles outside at recess and at specials. After they earn a jar full

of marbles they can cash them in for extra playtime or a movie to watch, but if they are being

disrespectful I will take away marbles.

    Student conflict on the playground

I believe it is healthy for children to know that they are capable of managing their own problems.

With the help of parents, teachers, and other adults, children can learn problem solving skills and

anger management. I want to empower students to use their communication skills in resolving

conflict issues. Its important that students learn the skill of being assertive by expressing their

needs and feelings by making I statements. For example, [Use the persons name] Nancy, I

feel angry [Why?] When you grab my ball. [Tell what you want:] Please dont do it again.

I will have in place this conflict resolution policy:

    1. First, when a student feels there is a conflict we encourage them to speak directly withthe other student.

  • 8/3/2019 Classroom Mgt Plan

    8/14

    8

    2. Next, if after talking to the child theyre still having a problem we ask the student to talkto their teacher or to one of our playground supervisors (if the incident occurs on the

playground) so that the situation can be dealt with quickly and mediated by an adult.3. If a student feels that someone is bullying them in any setting, the student should bring

the situation to either their teacher or to the principal. Bullying reports are referred to the

    principal for investigation and resolution.

Student inattentiveness or lack of motivation

Students are usually being held back by some sort of obstacle when they lack motivation. With

patience, understanding, and hard work, I want to help my students find a path to academicachievement. It is important to find an area in which the student excels and focus on it. Constant

failure can certainly be a cause for lack of motivation and when the primary focus is onweakness, self-esteem and motivation will undoubtedly be lowered. I hope to be able to

formulate a recipe for success and apply the ingredients to the students academic achievement.Children need to feel that I value learning as their teacher. Further, I want to reinforce to students

that failure is often a part of the learning process, and let them fail without penalty in some

circumstances. Kids who are not afraid to fail are more willing to accept scholastic challengesand less likely to sabotage their own academic efforts.

TardinessStudents who are tardy will have to present me with a signed slip from the office documenting

their tardy. I will also keep track in my grade book. If it gets to be a problem, I will research

what the problem may be and make adjustments with the student, family, and/or school as

    necessary.

Disrupting or offending another student during class

When a student disrupts the class he/she is depriving him/her self and others of the educationalprogress and learning opportunities. I will be very reasonable. Antagonizing the student is thekiss of death. I will keep the lines of communications open with their parents and ask for their

assistance if necessary. I will know the students and parents well enough to tell who the kids arewho will need more parent maintenance than others. I will be sure to keep records of the

students distractions. Note when he or she disrupts, what I did to redirect, and what time of dayit was. For the students with continuous distractions I will keep a running tab. If a student

repetitively disrupts the class and educational process, a behavior contract will be issued showinga running tab of the disruptions. Parents will be notified. A parent meeting will be scheduled.

The school counselor and/or Principal will be involved.

Students not getting work doneStudents who are not getting their work done will first be given a verbal or non-verbal warning.

I will continue to pay attention to see what the distraction or lack of understanding may be so Ican put the student on the path to getting their work done. I will also use a reward system, as

mentioned earlier, for the class. It will involve two jars and marbles. I will add a marble for theclasses good behavior/action and remove two for the bad behaviors/actions. For the students

individual success, I will also use tickets. A student will receive a ticket if I find they arefollowing directions. Then they will write their name on the ticket and go into a drawing for a

  • 8/3/2019 Classroom Mgt Plan

    9

prize out of my prize bucket. Drawings will be done sporadically to increase the studentsattention.

Students not trying to get work done

At the beginning of my units, I will share a focus statement for the reason why we are studying

what we are studying. This will give students a purpose as to the why and how that focusstatement relates to preparing the students for future success. I will offer students authentic

choices about the ways in which they can learn and show mastery of the material in class. In theevent that intrinsic motivation does not support their work, I will ask the student a series of

questions to see why they are not trying to try to prompt them. Is it simply too difficult or tooeasy? I can then plan a course of action to help adjust the lesson to meet the needs of the student.

    Cheating

A student who intentionally cheats may be sent to the office, have time to reflect, call a parents,

or receive a zero for the test or project depending on the nature of the offense.

At what point do parents/guardians or principal get involved?

I want to make sure that I have done everything in my power as a teacher to turn the students

behavior around before parent or principal contact is necessary. But sometimes students may

need the extra guidance to correct the infraction. Parents will not get involved until it is the

students third infraction which will be kept track of in students daily folder. The principal will

not get involved until the fourth infraction when the contact with the parent did not improve the

    students behavior.

    B. My Professional EthicsBehavior as school professional

Becoming a teacher is a lifetime goal of mine and something I will continue to pursue every day

and every year. I believe it is important to be a great role model not only to my students, but to

my colleagues as well. Leadership is my overall behavior I want to exemplify. Leadership to

me means having plans, goals, and vision for success. Leadership means dressing the part,

paying attention to detail, reading professional literature, attending conferences, collaboration

with others, and believe life is pursuing life, love, and happiness.

    Dealing with lounge gossip

Lounge gossip is inevitable to avoid as I have noticed in some in my practicum observations. However, there are two options. First option is to avoid the lounge gossip and just have lunch in

my room or with a student as a reward for the student. Second option would be to not include

myself in the negative discussion if I choose to stay in the lounge during my preparation time or

lunch. The thing with negative discussion or comments is that they can bring a person down so

if I can steer clear of the negative comments then my students and I will be benefit.

What if I do not get along with a colleague?

If I were to not get along with a colleague, I still feel it is important to be on the same page. The

students are the ones who may suffer if other another colleague(s) and I do not get along.

Communication is an important part of a healthy argument. I believe that two people can be

opposites and not be able to see eye to eye on everything, but it is important for those two to

realize what they do have in common and find mutual grounds to work on. We may never know

when well need each others help, so its best to stay positive.

What if I do not agree with the leadership strategies or views of my principal?

I believe that it would have to be something big that I would not agree with to have negative

thoughts towards my principals views. I would definitely do my research on the topic in

question that I am rising against my principals view if I did not agree. If I still did disagree, I

would want to know the other strategies my colleagues are using and their feedback on the view

I am questioning before I choose to get worked up over anything. I look at it like a chain of

command and that is why it is important to look into all areas around me (e.g. my colleagues, students, student assessment data, curriculum information) before I go run off to my principal

with a disagreement. Then if I still have an unanswered question, I would then proceed to ask

my principal of their thoughts behind so and so and why.

Part Three: Classroom Routines and Procedures

    A. Routines and ProceduresStudent sharing

Students will know the procedure of

sharing their own ideas with me by

raising their hand. If they want to

    bring something or someone from

home to share, they will let me know

before the final bell rings and I will

let them share after the pledge and

    morning announcements.

    Room helpers

I will print out the class list in alphabetic order and laminate to display near the blackboard. Iwill have clothes pins labeled with the job title and will rotate through the class list. Examples of

room helpers include: mail manager, line leader, door holder, pencil patrol, librarian, attendance

manager, messenger, new student helper, and light manager.

Use of free time & Activities for students if finished early with work

If students get done with an activity early, they will know to take out a book from their desk and

read quietly to themselves. Students will transition through the daily schedule with minimal free

time unless it is Friday Fun-Day and they have earned free time from me.

    Going on field trips

Planning and preparation is essential in going on field trips. I will have meeting with my

colleagues to discuss where and when. Once we have made arrangements with the school

administration, parents, students, and location I will remind the students that our classroom rules

and discipline procedure will still apply when we are a field trip away from the classroom.

    Doing homework

Students will only be assigned homework two days a week. If a student should forget their

homework they will be allowed one freebie for the trimester. They can use that as they see fit,

but if the freebie is used a late work slip will be sent home with the assignment for the studentand parent to fill out to ensure the student completes the assignment and that the parent is made

aware of late work to hopefully prevent future occurrences.

    Handing in papers

What I like best that I have seen and used is for students to pass their papers across the row and

    then I can easily collect papers from the end of the rows. In my layout the desks are in groups;

therefore, I will ask the students to put their papers in one pile in the center of desk and I will

have the mail manager collect the papers.

Passing out papers or announcementsI will have the mail manager pass out papers to the students. Announcements will go in the

students cubbies and they will put the announcement in their backpack to take home to

parents/guardians when the end of day bell rings.

Dismissal for recess, lunch, specials, and end of day

The class does not dismiss itself. I, the teacher, dismiss the class. I will ensure that all students

have made it back to their desk and following directions. I will dismiss each pod of tables

according to their behavior and remind the students having difficulties following instructions to

try that behavior again. The students will also know they are to help each other pick up the

classroom before they dismissed for recess, lunch, specials, or end of day.

    Bathroom procedure

I have two bathroom hall passes for the students if there is not a bathroom in my room. One pass

for boys and one pass for girls. Students will approach me or raise their hand to be called on and

ask to use the rest room. I will not turn anyone down for having to use the restroom because I do

  • 8/3/2019 Classroom Mgt Plan

    12/14

    12

not want my students having accidents, but I will kindly remind all my students to use the

    restroom at our designated times.

    Getting a drink

The students will be allowed to have a water bottle at their desk and will be reminded to fill their

water bottle at the beginning of the day. If they should forget to fill their bottle then they will

need to wait until there is a break in the lesson.

    Going to specials

Students will be reminded of proper hall behavior as they walk to their special. They will also

know that the teacher of the special is instructed to report back to me regarding good and not so

    good behavior.

    B. Differentiation PolicyAssisting students who do not understand

    directions or task

I would like to be able to help everyone all the

time, but as I know, I cannot be with 20 some

students at any given moment at the same time.

Therefore, I would like to have made the

activity/task less intense with a structured, pre-

designed sheet for the student(s) to work on. I

would also have implemented a signal system

for the different levels of strength and weakness.Green means I am fine working on my own (I

get it). Yellow means I am confused and need help, but I will continue working until the teacher

comes. Red means I have no clue what I am to be doing because this makes no sense.

Challenge for gifted or high ability students

I would use the signal system I mentioned above for all students, but I would also entail the

activity or task to have some higher level thinking skills to challenge the high ability students to

further deepen their knowledge and expand on it. It is NOT a part of my plan for the high ability

students to help the other students because that is not a challenge. All the students, including

those of high ability need challenge or that push to drive them towards success. Instructionallevels should be between 90 to 95 percent, according to Dr. Jill Johnson. If a student mastered

everything like the story Matilda, then what good am I as their teacher?

  • 8/3/2019 Classroom Mgt Plan

    13/14

    13

    C. ParentsRegular communication with parents

It is important to be able to communicate with the parents/guardians of my students. My school

email would be the number one way to get a hold of me during the school day. Before and after

school the parents can reach me via telephone or email. I want to also send home dailyobjectives/focus statement with the students to let the parents know what we worked on for each

day. I would like to do this in either a daily or weekly format.

Preparing for and conducting parent conferences

I believe that parent-teacher conferences are not to be put

together at the last minute. Therefore, it is important to

plan and organize student work ahead of time. In the fall,

I want to be able to pick activities for the students that go

along with what they are learning at the given moment,

but also be transferred easily to the spring term to show

parents improvement. It is not all about showcasing how

good students are or are not, but showing and talking to the parents about where you would like

to see their child in the future. I feel it is important to meet with all the parents. I would send a

letter home with the students to have the parent(s) pick what date and time works best and then

assign accordingly. If someone does not respond or show up, first I would make arrangements in

their schedule and if that does not work then do a phone conference.
