 What’s On at the

IFI?Midnight in Paris

A huge hit, Woody Allen’slatest is a love letter to theCity of Light, a whimsical

time-travelling romance and amildly cautionary tale about

rooting your dreams in thepast. A neurotic Hollywoodscreenwriter struggling with

his first novel visits theFrench capital with his

shrewish fiancée. Inspirationstrikes on a midnight stroll, whisking the writer magically back to a time when the city sizzled with American expat

talent. Soon he’s hobnobbing with Hemingway, theFitzgeralds and Gertrude Stein while an alluring artist’smodel sets his heart a-flutter. All this makes his presentcircumstances even more exasperating, but can he, or

should he, long for escape? The playful humour is matched

by bittersweet yearning and Paris looks so enticing you’llsigh with pleasure.
