Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
Program
Identify Unit Systems Susceptible to CUI
Conduct study and identify systems within various units operating below350°F Review P&IDs and consult Process Engineering for operating temperatures Consult Operations to identify systems in intermittent service
Conduct Field Surveys and Pre-screening to Identify Affected Systems Identify insulated dead legs and stagnant zones for inspection
Identify following ig ris! areas for inspection of insulated systems operating "#$%°F 't (rea!s or gaps 't areas su()ect to process spills 't areas e*posed to vapors 't areas e*posed to wetting (y steam vents 't protruding vents+ drains+ supports or pipe angers On steam traced systems wit tracing lea!s 't locations wit missing insulation caul!ing
Inspection of High Ris Systems Once a ig degree of rusting is confirmed after pre, screening+ utilize following
inspection tecni-ues to assess condition of entire systems Randomly remove insulation for visual inspection and ./ gauging+ specifically on lines 01%2 Conventional or state,of,te art digital radiograpy on lines 31%2 Depending on system configuration+ 4ong,rang 5uided 6ave .ltrasonic 75.48 Conduct spot P/ of stainless steel pipe welds for C9CC
