02 | JENJA BEAUTY

JenJa Beauty FEATURED TENANT Hawaii’s Hottest Hair Salon & Extension Bar!

This past summer, we welcomed JenJa Hair Salon & Extension Bar to Davies Pacific Center. Located on the ground floor facing Queen St., JenJa is quickly becoming Hawaii’s hottest hair salon and offers the only hair extension bar in the state! Owner and master stylist Jen Jackson (thus the name JenJa) does all types of hair and hair service. From women’s cuts to men’s cuts to kid’s cuts, dreads, highlights, lowlites, color, ombre, hair extensions, bridal hair and make-up; you name it, JenJa does it. Customers come from all over the island to get their hair done at JenJa; some even fly in from out of state. Lucky for us, JenJa is now at Davies! Here’s a short Q&A with owner and master stylist, Jen Jackson.

What made you choose Davies Pacific Center? A lot of my clients work in the downtown district, so we wanted a location they could just walk to during their lunch break or after work. We also love the building. It’s well-maintained, there’s a nice courtyard area, and there are lots of great places to eat!

You’ve got a very loyal clientele; what’s the secret to JenJa’s success? It’s no secret, really. We listen to our clients, find out what they’re looking for, and then make it happen. Our clients know that when they walk in, they’ll receive first class treatment from expert stylists that won’t break their pocketbook. And, when they walk out, they’ll look and feel fabulous!

Do you take walk-ins? Yes, our current walk-in times are Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can also make an appointment on-line at JenJaBeauty.com. Or, call me at 990-8002. We know people are busy, so we try to work around your schedule as best as possible.

What would you like other Davies tenants to know about JenJa? No matter what style of hair you have or want to have, we’re here for you. Stop by for a free consultation. It only takes a few minutes, and no appointment is necessary. Besides having the only hair extension bar in the state, we also have a blow-

out bar. Before your dinner date or night on the town, just pop in for a few minutes. We’ll give you a quick shampoo, touch-up your hair and make-up, and off you go!

03 | EDU INSIGHT

Edu Insight FEATURED TENANT

Taking On-line Learning to the Next LevelEdu Insight is one of Davies Pacific Center’s newer tenants, having come on board earlier this year. This forward-thinking, start-up company teaches English to Chinese students. On the surface, this may sound like your typical English language school, but Edu Insight is far from typical. You see, their teachers reside in the United States and their students reside in China. Through their propriety on-line software, they are able to simulate a classroom setting, even when the teacher is thousands of miles away. It’s a fascinating teaching model, and in speaking with Edu Insight, you can’t help but feel you’re getting a glimpse of how learning will be in the future.

Here’s a short Q&A with Edu Insight Founder and CEO, Ted Salonek.

How do most students in China learn English? Learning the English language is mandatory in China, so it’s taught in the school system. The sad part is, after studying English for years, many students can’t speak English very well. They are taught to read, write, and memorize English phrases, but when asked to have a conversation with someone in English, they struggle.

And, how is the Edu Insight curriculum different from how English is taught in China? Our curriculum is set up to encourage students to learn English in a fun, interactive manner. We use traditional as well as non-traditional methods, such as games and music. We want our students to speak out and express themselves, and not be afraid to make mistakes. We want to instill in them a joy of learning English through fun and positive reinforcement.

Tell us a little about how Edu Insight simulates a classroom setting. We’ve developed an on-line teaching tool that allows for real-time interaction through the Internet. Students in a classroom in China can see, hear, and interact with a teacher thousands of miles away in the U.S., as though the teacher is standing right in front of them. We do this through large screen monitors as well as robots, which are programmed to move about the classroom.

Why did you choose the Davies Pacific Center to be your first office location outside of China? We wanted our first regional office to be in Hawaii, due to the six-hour time difference between China and Hawaii. This allows our

teachers to teach at a decent hour. We then looked at a number of office buildings and chose Davies due to the high-speed Internet capabilities offered here. We also liked that the location was in downtown Honolulu and easily accessible to college students, who make up the majority of our teachers.

What would you like other Davies tenants to know about Edu Insight? We’re always looking for teachers. So, if you or someone you know enjoys teaching and is looking for a part-time teaching position, give me a call. We’re also looking for IT people to further develop our interactive platform. We’d love to hear from you.
