+S. 744 – What is it? The Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration

Modernization Act is a bill that was proposed in the Spring of 2013 as a way to reform the current immigration progress in the United States.

Provides an ideal solution to the millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S and assisting qualified immigrants in obtaining citizenship

The bill was passed by the Senate and needs to pass in the House of Representatives to be enacted.

+Security Along with the bill, financial support for border protection has

increased providing more fencing, surveillance, and technologically advanced camera systems.

Secretary of Homeland Security creating a strategy to ensure strict and well-covered borders.

Reforming immigrant visas: a person must have ten years of Registered Provisional Immigrant status before they can register for a green card (Becoming a permanent resident).

+Progress A part of the bill is the DREAM act which allows citizens who qualify, like

those who graduated high school or migrated before the age of 16, to become citizens through a quicker process.

Employers must use an electronic system that verifies whether a person is eligible to work. The system is called the “Electronic Employment Verification System,” or EEVS.• The e-verify system protects people from fraud, identity theft, and

discrimination in the work place.

The CBO estimates the bill would increase the U.S. Gross Domestic Product by 3.3% in 2023, which is equivalent to seven hundred billion dollars.• Could also increase individual wages.

+S. 774 S. 774 will impact the labor force, employment, government spending,

and relevant sectors including security and workers rights. U.S. labor force and employment will increase. The bill will remove illegal workers, narrowing it down to the eligible

immigrants.

Greatly impact fiscal policy and government spending, More immigrants becoming citizens, more taxes.

Would result in raise of 0.5% for all workers.

+Progress Workers must ensure they have valid workers or they can be

fined. 2 years in prison and $25,000 fine

EEVS will remove illegal immigrants from entering the system, allowing for U.S and legal immigrants to find work.

This bill would also increase employment and generate more revenue in terms of computer spending and saving.

Production will increase revenue because we will have more customer spending and saving.

DREAM Act is enhanced and from an ethical and economic point of view the best approach to achieved their goal for this regulation

+Security The bill will allocate $46.3 billion for border enforcement at the U.S.

and Mexico border. Preventing millions of illegal immigrants from entering the U.S.

Allowing illegal and unauthorized immigrants the ability to become a U.S. citizen is the next goal of the regulation. More than a quarter of undocumented families have annual incomes lower

than $20,000.

+Civil and Criminal Laws Another goal is the new civil and criminal laws with increased

punishment for immigrants and U.S. citizens.

It creates penalties of fines and incarceration of up to 10 years for people who provide fraudulent information services, as well as fines and incarceration of up to 15 years for a person who misrepresents him/herself as attorney or accredited representative. This is necessary to create greater fear of illegal immigrants and those

helping illegal immigrants

+S. 744 The bill was written by senators Charles Schumer, John McCain,

Richard Durbin, Lindsey Graham, Robert Menendez, Marco Rubio, Michael Bennet, and Jeff Flake.

Before the process gets approved, there are still a lot of changes that need to be made in order for the bill to begin enforcement.

Due to the fact that the bill is very large can covers a wide range of aspects, there are many obstacles involved in the process.

In the long run, immigration will boost the economy and increase employment/wages for everyone.
