What impact is globalization having on Japan's popular culture? Is it being assimilated into larger, global trends, or is there still something distinctly “Japanese” about it that connects it to traditions of the past? Do we even need to worry about such questions in our global, playful, postmodern times?

This class will examine examples of Japan's popular culture in literature, film, and anime, particularly since the 1980s. Students will be introduced to a number of theoretical texts on globalization and culture and will be asked to consider how these theories might illuminate the texts introduced in class. In this way, it is hoped that students will gain a deeper appreciation of the historical moment in which they live and the larger cultural conditions in which they participate.

Given that this is an English class, we will look at many of these texts in English, and so issues of translation and cultural transmission will also naturally arise as a sub-theme of the course. How is Japanese popular culture being reshaped and repackaged for audiences abroad, and is this an act of cultural bridge building or something else?授業の計画：

English is often talked about in terms of grammar and vocabulary, but a far more important issue is how the language is used in various contexts. This perspective, called "language socialization," connects language to social roles and cultural conventions, as well as notions of identity, practice, and ownership. It allows us to ask questions like: Is English a global lingua franca, or a linguistic killer of smaller languages? How is language an expression of cultural identity, and what does it mean to be an English speaker? How does language express prejudice, and how do you tell bias when you see it? Are there "gendered" ways of talking that characterize men and women? What participation strategies do learners use to survive in an English-medium university? And so on. This course is an intensive seminar which addresses these and other issues related to language, culture, and society in an academic way. Assignments and class activities are designed to be comparable to what would be encountered in an introductory course at a university in the States. The primary goal of the class is to give students basic knowledge about the subject. A secondary aim is to develop an advanced proficiency in English, with particular focus on academic skills through guided participation in class activities (primarily reading and writing, but also presentation and discussion). In an age of increasing globalization, Keio students are expected to go beyond conversational fluency, to acquire the advanced skills that can be used in academic and professional contexts. The 1920's was the decade in which America came of age. Broadly speaking, in political, military and legal terms the America we know today might have been already developing during the long nineteenth

century. However, during the 1920's the economy and society that most people today think of as distinctly American finally took shape. This course examines the decade from a variety of perspectives. We analyze some key literary texts, which will shed light on a variety of groups and individuals. We examine broad social themes, from the economy to social change. In the age of globalized interconnections and international exchange, students are expected to have not only high-level English language skills but also practical, informed knowledge from a variety of academic disciplines about the various forces shaping the larger world. A goal of education used to be the mere absorption of facts. Today students need to develop the ability to form ideas from apparently disconnected threads, to see patterns, to think critically, to learn from history, and to understand different cultures. This course is designed to address these issues and encourage intellectual growth. It is a seminar designed to outline in a precise way the phenomenon we call globalization. We will discuss a wide variety of topics, including the origins and effects of cultural and economic globalization on media, business, climate, language, local cultural identities and the sovereignty of individual nations. Does globalization affect big systems alone or does it influence personal identity as well? How old is globalization, how does the present form differ from earlier forms, and have we now entered a new phase? Is globalization the same as imperialism? What is the nature of the backlash against globalization? Readings will include seminal essays and journal articles as well as analyses of how globalization has changed since the terror threats, power shifts, and financial crises of the past decade. Other material that we will base our discussions on will come from university and media Internet sites at Yale, Berkeley, Cambridge, fora.tv, ted.com, Academic Earth, and the BBC's Reith Lectures archive. A list of recommended supplementary texts will be available in April. An additional aim of the course is to develop high-level proficiency in academic English, with students learning vocabulary and advanced discourse skills through the reading and dialogue. ときに、皆さんはその言葉に生命を吹き込まなくてはなりません。

同じ言葉が、場面状況や語る人物の感情によって、また皆さん自身

の性格と絡まってどのように命あるものとなっていくのか体験して

ください。また実際に身体を使うことによって、母国語ではない言

葉や表現はまちがいなく自分のものとなっていくことでしょう。そ

の経験を通じて、自分のことや私たちの文化も見えてくるかもしれ

ません。

　教材は有名なドラマのシナリオを使います。成果は日吉キャンパ

スの来往舎にてドラマ公演として一般の方に観ていただく予定です。

よってチラシの作成、舞台の設定、音響や小道具や衣装など、公演

の立ち上げそのものも皆さん自身で行う授業の一環となります。

　具体的な授業内容は、前期に身体を使った表現ワークショップと

シナリオ解釈を行い、夏休みにシナリオを覚えてもらい、後期にド

ラマ上演に向けた練習と準備、公演、公演のリビューを行います。

また、夏休みはシナリオを覚えるだけでなく、もう一度、徹底的な

読解と、それぞれの解釈をすり合わせるための夏合宿（1泊2日）を

行います（9月中旬に開催予定）。

　演劇経験者である必要はありません。ただ公演に向けて放課後や

空いた時間に練習をしていただくことになります。特に12月の半ば

の公演前は練習にかなりの時間を割いていただくことになりますの

で、やる気のある学生さんだけに履修していただきたいと思います。

発音練習など個人的にしっかりと指導しますので、間違いなく発音

や発声の力はついてくるはずです。

　なお、履修希望者は必ず第1 回目の授業に参加してください。

上げるかは、履修者が決定したあとに決めさせていただきます。


　授業はグループ・ワークショップを中心として行いますので、無

断欠席、遅刻は一切認められません。また、シナリオを覚えるのは

もちろん、公演に向けて授業外での練習や活動が入ってきます。つ

まり、「やる気」と「努力」がかなり必要。公演は12 月初旬あるい

は中旬の予定ですので、特に11 月中旬から12 月にかけて集中的に課

外練習をすることになります。演劇は一人が欠けると成り立ちませ

ん。責任感を持って授業に臨んでください。また毎回大いに身体を

　この授業は、実際に商品となりうる翻訳（英語→ 日本語）ができ

る能力の開発を目ざして、主として短編小説を読んでゆきます。英

文和訳が基本的には英語の理解を確認するための手段として日本語

に訳させる作業であるのに対して、翻訳は読者が気持ちよく読むこ

とのできる流麗な日本語で書かれたりっぱな商品でなくてはなりま

せん。そこが決定的な違いです。そのために大切なのは、英文を理

解する力、不明なことを的確に根気よく調べるリサーチ力、そして

分かりやすく読んで気持のいい日本語を書く力の３点です。この授

業で具体的に求められる作業は、個人で仕上げた課題を、授業中に

少人数のグループ作業を通して磨くことです。そこで完成された翻

訳を私が添削します。ですから、グループ作業が苦手な人には向か

　この授業はドイツ語の発音をしっかりと身につけたい人のために

開講します。基礎の基礎から練習しますので、ドイツ語をこれから

始める人も心配せずに来てください。また今までにドイツ語を履修

したけれど、まだ発音が十分に身についていないという学生も大歓

迎です。いろいろな言語に共通する発音の仕組みを学ぶだけでなく

実際に声を出して練習しますから、英語の発音も改善されるでしょ

う。

　発音練習とともに聴き取りの練習もします。両者は密接に連動し

ています。発音の仕組みが分かっただけで、今まで聴き取れなかっ

たものが聴き取れたということがあるのです。また、ドイツ語らし

いリズムで発音できるようになることも、聴き取り能力の向上につ

ながります。たくさん発音し、たくさん聴きましょう。

　発音はできる限り個人指導をします。会話での自然な発音ができ

るようになるだけでなく、文章語もきちんと発音できるように訓練

します。また、ドイツ語のリズムをつかむために簡単なライムや歌

も扱います。

　文法や講読の授業だけでは飽き足らない、もっとドイツ語の音に

　この授業では、自分の興味をひく本を手にとり、文法などの細か

い解釈にとらわれず内容を楽しみ、次から次へと本を読んでいく、

というドイツ語リーディング学習の一方法である「多読」を行いま

す。読む本は、こちらで用意する200冊以上の様々なジャンルのドイ

ツ語本の中から、各自が自由に選ぶことができます。毎週1冊（数百

～数千語程度）を読むことが目標です（初級向けの本も多数用意し

ています）。読書は個人で行うものですが、授業では読書体験を共有

するため各自が読んできた本の紹介をしたり、本の読み方、読書ペ

ースの作り方について各自の工夫を紹介しあうディスカッションの

場を設けます。また、本の読み方に関するこつ（リーディングスト

ラテジー）を身に付けるために、様々なワークを行います。

　多読を行うことにより、リーディングにおけるいわゆるトップダ

ウン式の読み方（主要部分と詳細部分との違いを認識する、既存の

知識や経験を利用する、など）を養うことができます。ボトムアッ

プ式の読み方（分からない単語を辞書で調べる、文レベルでの文法

的構造を把握する、など）を養う精読の学習と並行して、この授業

における読み方を学ぶことにより、バランスのとれた理想的なドイ

この授業では、既存のドラマ（映画の一場面、文学作品の一場面

等）を演じることと、自作のドラマを演じることの繰り返しにより、

高いフランス語の表現力を身につけることを目的とします。

　既存のドラマに関しては、毎回、ある目標行為（助言する、依頼

する等）をテーマとし、まずテクストの読解を行います。そして、

それらに関連する文法・表現を学んだ後、演じます。

　自作のドラマに関しては、その目標行為を含むものとし、グルー

プごとにシナリオを作り、演じます。学習したばかりのことを、自

分たちで考えた状況の中で実践的に用いましょう。状況に応じたコ

ミュニケーション場面の中で、語彙・表現・ジェスチャーを覚える

ことができます。また、他の学生のドラマを見ることでリスニング

力も鍛えられ、さらなる表現も覚えることができます。

　年度末には、クラス全体で、長めの劇を作り、演じることで、総

仕上げとします。

　ペア・グループで行うアクティビティや、質疑応答も多く取り入

れるので、授業に積極的に参加することが望まれます。

　この授業はロシア語を初めて学ぶ方や初級者を対象に、ロシア語

で「聴く⇔話す」という能力を身につけることを目標にしています。

外国語の習得に文法の理解は欠かせないものではありますが、とは

いえ文法を学びさえすれば即座に流暢に話せるということになるの

か、といえばそうとは限りません。殊にロシア語は、格変化など文

法上の規則性の高さから難解な言語のひとつに挙げられることが多

いので、それを「高い壁」として、思わず口をつぐんでしまいがち

です。まずはそうした「高い壁」をこわし、基本的な文法事項を守

りながら「ロシア語」として発話する。これが実現できたときには、

「ロシア語を話す」という大きな喜びに包まれること必至です。つま

り、「話す活動」において習得した文法をきちんと正しく使いこなせ

るようになるためにも、とにかくまずは「耳」をよく働かせると同

時に、文字どおり「口」を動かしてみることが大切なのです。

　第二外国語でロシア語を履修する方にはプラスアルファとなるよ

うに、また他ではロシア語を学んでいない方にはこの授業のみでも

ロシア語の学習ができるように工夫するつもりです。ロシア語文法

のみの授業ではなく、じっさいの「会話」へと発展させることをめ

ざします。ロシアの授業でも使われている教材を用いますので、ご

自分の「耳」と「口」で積極的に参加してください。

　まず前期の何回かで、じっさいにロシア語を発するために必要な、

ロシア語文法についての最低限の知識を学びます。ある程度それら

についての理解が得られたら、いざ実践です。まずは、間違うこと

など気にせず、たくさんロシア語を発してください。こうした活動

のなかで、文法的にわからないことがでてきた場合には、いつでも

質問してください。また、ある程度の単語力を身につけたら、ただ

やみくもに辞書をひいたりするのではなく、初見の単語の意味を推

測する方法についても検討していきます。

　授業は通年です。ロシア語を今までに学んだことのない方を対象

なのにちっとも上達しない…」といった悩みを抱える既習者の受講

も歓迎します。一からやり直すつもりで、授業に臨んでください。

また、ロシアの語学学校・大学における語学研修を希望する方には、

ロシア語の文法用語についての解説もします。

　大切なのは「話したい」という気持ちです。たとえ発したロシア

語が文法的に間違っていたとしても、その間違いの繰り返しこそが、

ロシア語力を伸ばす近道となります。むしろ、どんどん「間違えに

来る」つもりで、授業に臨んでください。

　言語はコミュニケーションをとるためにあります。たくさんの知

識を詰め込んでも、全く使えないのでは意味がありません。このク

ラスでは、スペイン語の学習を始めたその日から、少しでも知って

いる言葉を使ってみることができるように、様々な練習を通して授

業中にコミュニケーションをとりながら学んでいきます。文法はそ

の後で、まとめの形で提示します。学習の上で以下のことも心がけ

ましょう。

1.もともと持っている知識の活用

　出発点は皆さんがすでに持っている知識です。教室に初めてやっ

てくる時はスペイン語はまだわからなくても、自分をとりまく現実

についてはよく知っています。自分自身の現実から出発しましょう。

そうすれば、自分をとりまく世界について持っている知識を新しい

言語で表現することができるということを実感できます。

2.興味があることから出発する

　無理をせず、自分の好きなテーマで話すことから始めましょう。

　まずなによりも先にスペイン語の学び方を学ぶことが大変重要で

す。導入課の前にある、「スペイン語の学び方を学びましょう」のペ

ージにわかりやすく説明してありますのでよく読んでから学習を始

この授業では、初めに基礎的な文法の復習を行います。その後学生

一人一人のレベルに合わせたDELE等のスペイン語資格試験受験を前

提とした問題演習に取り組みつつ、新聞、雑誌その他の平易なスペ

イン語で書かれた文章の読解と初級レベルの会話表現が出来るよう

な応用力を身につけることを目的としています。年間を通して、様

々な内容のテキストを多読し、映画等の映像資料も適宜扱います。

スペイン語圏の国々の多様な社会文化的背景についても触れていき

ます。毎回相当量の予習が要求されますので、スペイン語を本気で

習得したいというやる気のある学生の参加を期待します。

　アラビア語初心者を対象に、文字から基礎的な文法を勉強してい

きます（会話ではなく、読解の基礎を身につけることを目標として

います）。

　どこからどこまでが一文字かわからない、何故か右から左に書い

てある、等々やや（?）とっつきにくく、日本ではあまり見かけない

言語ですが、国連の公用語であり、中東・北アフリカの21 カ国で使

われているほか、その語彙はペルシア語圏やトルコ語圏でも用いら

れています。

　アラビア語には書き言葉である正則アラビア語（フスハー）と話

し言葉（アーンミーヤ）とがありますが、本講義ではフスハーを扱

います。アラビア語の文法はしっかり出来ているので、これを基本

からきちんと習得していけば古典から現代文（新聞など）まで読解

する基礎が出来るでしょう。

Il corso si rivolge a studenti principianti e l'obiettivo è di sostenere semplici conversazioni su argomenti personali e di vita quotidiana. L'approccio metodologico è di tipo comunicativo-induttivo. Ciò allo scopo di semplificare lo studio della grammatica che verrà "scoperta" e messa in pratica dallo studente. In classe si parlerà, si ascolterà, si scriverà, si leggerà italiano lavorando a coppie, in gruppo e giocando.日常生活や個人的な事柄についてイタリア人とコミュニケーション

をするための初級会話コースです。文法を簡単に学びながら、新た

な文法を実際に使って《話す》《聴く》《書く》《読む》の４つの能力

をバランスよく向上させます。授業では学生がペア（またはグルー

プ）になって、遊びながら学習していきます。初めてイタリア語に

接する学生のためのコースですが、必修語学としてイタリア語を履

修する学生がさらに語彙を増やし、知識を定着させるためにも適し

Il corso si rivolge a studenti principianti che vogliono parlare in italiano di argomenti personali utili anche durante un viaggio o una permanenza in Italia e sostenere semplici conversazioni su temi comuni ai giovani. L'approccio metodologico è di tipo comunicativo-induttivo. Ciò allo scopo di semplificare lo studio della grammatica che verrà "scoperta" e messa in pratica dallo studente. Attraverso il sistematico lavoro sulle 4 abilità (ASCOLTARE, LEGGERE, PARLARE, SCRIVERE), verranno fornite tutte quelle nozioni che sono indispensabili a comunicare senza problemi. Ogni lezione alternerà attività diverse per stimolare l'attenzione e tenere vivo l'interesse.イタリアを旅行したり短期滞在する際に役立つ実践的な会話力を身
