If the surface is heavily soiled, dampena clean, soft cloth in a solution of mild neutral detergentbefore cleaning the disc.

Disc Accessories

Various disc accessories for protecting the surface of thedisc and improving sound quality are available on themarket. However, many of them will increase the thickness and/ordiameter of the disc. Using such accessories may place thedisc beyond the specified size limitations and cause thechanger to malfunction. Because of the high precisionelectronics of the DHA-S680P and the highly stablemechanism, these accessories are not necessary andtherefore not recommended for use with discs placed inthe DHA-S680P.

Caution for new discs

When a newly purchased disc is inserted into the changermagazine, the disc may fail to play after initial loading. This is caused by small bumps around the center hole andoutside of the disc, which prevent stable loading into thecorrect position. To remove the bumps, rub the insideedge of the hole and outside edge of the disc with a ball-point pen or other such instrument, then insert the discagain.

NOTEThe mechanism automatically prevents this type of disc fromplaying as a protective measure. This is not an indication offaulty operation.

A 12 cm disc can contain one movie or about fourhours of music. In addition, DVDs provide sharp picture quality withvivid colors thanks to a horizontal resolution of over500 lines (compared to less than 300 for VHS tape). With the addition of an optional, digital audioprocessor (PXA-H900/PXA-H510), you canrecreate the power and presence of a movie theaterwith Dolby Digital 5.1-channel Surround.

Music CDs and DVDs have grooves (tracks) inwhich the digital data is recorded. The data isrepresented as microscopic pits recorded into thetrack – these pits are read by a laser beam to playthe disc. On DVDs, the density of the tracks andpits is twice that of CDs, so DVDs can contain moredata in less space.

connectors of the digital audio processor optical digital input connectors. This arrangement allows you to enjoy DolbyDigital 5.1 Channel Surround and other effects even when connection is made to the CHANGER connectors.

• When using the Versatile Link Terminal (KCA-410C) and connecting the DHA-S680P, connect the DHA-S680P Ai-NETcable to the CHANGER1 connector of the KCA-410C. Before connecting KCA-410C, change the system setting (page56) of DHA-S680P.

• Even when the DHA-S680P Ai-NET settings are set to CD-CHG, making connection of the optical digital output to the digitalaudio processor allows you to enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 Channel Surround and other effects.

• When combining the DHA-S680P and the CD changer (CHA-S624), the optical digital output of the CHA-S624 cannotbe used.

OthersTerminology

Dolby DigitalDolby Digital is a digital audio compression technol-ogy developed by Dolby Laboratories that allowslarge quantities of audio data to be efficientlyrecorded on discs. It is compatible with audio signalsfrom mono (1 channel) all the way up to 5.1-channelsurround sound. The signals for the different chan-nels are completely independent, and since thesound is high quality digital there is no loss of soundquality.* The separately sold digital audio processor (PXA-

H510/PXA-H900) is required to enjoy full 5.1-channel surround sound.

The DHA-S680P performs Dolby Digital decodingwhen it outputs analog audio signals, it just happensto be 2-channel audio not 5.1-channel.

DTSThis is a home-use digital sound format of the DTSSound System. This is a high quality sound system, developed by Digital Theater Systems Corp. for usein movie theaters.DTS has six independent sound tracks. The theaterpresentation is fully realized in the home and othersettings. DTS is the abbreviation for Digital TheaterSystem.* To enjoy DTS surround sound you need the

separately sold DTS digital audio processor. TheDVD video software must also have a DTS soundtrack.

Dolby Pro LogicDolby Pro Logic is the technology used to decodeprograms encoded in Dolby Surround. Pro logicdecoding will provide you with four channels ofsound (front left/right, center and monaural rearsurround) from a 2-channel (stereo) source.* The separately sold digital audio processor (PXA-

H510/PXA-H900) is required to enjoy Dolby ProLogic surround sound.

Linear PCM audio (LPCM)LPCM is a signal recording format used for musicCDs. Whereas music CDs are recorded at 44.1 kHz/16 bits, DVDs are recorded at 48 kHz/16 bits to 96kHz/24 bits, thereby achieving higher sound qualitythan music CDs.

Rating levels (parental lock)This is a function of the DVD for restricting theviewing age as stipulated by laws in different coun-tries. The way in which viewing is restricted differsfrom DVD to DVD. Sometimes the DVD cannot beplayed at all, other times certain scenes are skipped, and other times certain scenes are replaced withother scenes.
