MICROROBOTICSA Nava l Academy systems and electricalengineering team took second and third place in the2012 Mobile Microrobotics Challenge at theInternational Conference on Robotics andAutomation May 14-18 in St. Paul, Minn.

Each competing team had to design and build itsown microrobots that could fit within a500-micrometer virtual cube, a space smaller thanthe average thickness of a human cornea.

The microrobotics challenge required teams toperform a series of tasks using robots that are so

small that the arena is under a microscope. Duringthe first challenge, the microrobot must navigatea prescribed course through a planar track in thefastest possible time.
