They did cooking outdoors and a te in the carpor t . The men from t h e i r churchwould also come around at eating timeIJ The ladies did their washing andapread i t on the ground to dry. They had their own key and could come and goas they wished .Sunday morning a very impressive o rd in a tion s er vic e was held fo r someministers, elde.rs and church helpers (both men and women). Many of the churcheshad not even had real elders, so i t was decided to ordain qualified people thisway. I t was encouraging to see these people committed in th is way. In spiteof some very real problems of leadership and economics, I believe the brotherhood i s going to move ahead in the next few years. None of us were hur t and nothing c r i t i c a l inthe running of the ca r was damaged, so we are th an kful to God. Vo l , 2 No . 38Dear Fr i ends i n C h ris t,

    God is still in con t ro l o f t he u niv er se . I s n t t ha t a r e l i e f Sometimes I had th e mistaken idea in Ghana tha t too much depended on me No wonder I look a l i t t l e haggard.God brought me safely home on June 22 and i s giving me a good res t . All of my familyare well and happy in the Lord. What a blessing. From July 7 to the 19th, I ll be in California to take a language/culture course . I hope to gain enough motivation and pr inc ip leso f learning a language in a non-c lass s i t ua t ion to help me learn one o f Ghana's languageswhen I r e t u r n t h e r e .

Let me br ing you up to date on some o f the good th ings t ha t happened in Ghana s ince Ilast wro t e .The students of Ghana Christian College each spen^ two weeks just before Easter in various congregations o f the ir choice doing the pract ical 'work of the ministry. Almost a l lcame back very pleased with what they l ea rn ed, i nc ludi ng problems and di f f icu l t i e s . Severalmentioned what a temptation the young women are to them. Another discovered how lonely hefe l t when he discovered that many of the people to whom he went to minister couldn ' t speakhis language This is the second year of th is program and it has cer tainly been a good addit ion. The young man who helped us in Abeka did a f ine job and has started a drama groupamong the youth. They presented t he i r f i r s t play the n igh t before I l e f t .The church a t Akramang won a number of converts in a nearby vi l lage just a t Eastertime. One of the Akramang young men i s doing his best to teach them. He got a few ideas from me,but has to do a lo t on his own He hopes to come to the college in 1981.The bro therhood has an evangel i s t ic group tha t has schedule^ a preaching campaign in atown called Tefle, beginning July 25 to establ ish a new congregation. Some of the nearbychurches will also help. David Couch will preach one night before he continues on to thevillage where he is teach ing to lay the ground work for another new church. Please prayf o r t h e s e .In mid-May, Chris t ian Adjei , graduate Isaac Oppatah, student Enoch Nyador and I t raveled to the church in Amate about a six hour t r ip. Saturday night a storm that blew dir tand pebbles roof high (tin roof, too) befo re th e rain came cancelled our^plans for out-doorpreaching. We had no choice but to go to bed early for a grand night 's sleep. Sunday weshared in the morning service and th ir teen young people who had been fa ith fu l in SundaySchool gave t he ir l iv es to Christ. That evening we had songs, film-strips and preachingout-of-doors. One older man responded to the invitat ion. The youth were baptized in thelake after the morning service and th e man was baptized about 11 p m

There are about twenty members from Azizania church a t Amate because of the f ishing.(Azizania is on th e coast.) Because of their work and/or a language difference, they rarelytake part in the Amate church. Pray for them and Amate preacher. Hayford Ansong strugglingto earn a l iving by farming. He said l a t e r that he real ly fe l t lonely when we l e f tfor Accra on Monday morning.

On May 11, our congregation tha t meets in the col l ege , held an outdoor preaching service.I t was in an area of the community not far from us but we had not preached there before. Theprevious week th e youth club was given some instruction and role play in house to house evangelism. On Saturday, th e 10th, the youth gathered a t the empty lo t and worked hard to cleari t of rubbish and weeds That afternoon, eight of us met and prayed and then went up and downboth sides of the lane in teams to invite the people to come to hear about Christ. People arenot rude there and are usually ready to l i s t en . My partner was a 15 year old school boy whospeaks three Ghanaian languages. At one of our f i r s t houses about e ight adu lt s gathered roundand they brought us chairs . This a ll happened outdoors where much of the l iving i s done. Oneman and h is wife were Muslim but they conversed with us very kindly and a t ten t ive ly . Althoughnone from tha t house responded on Sunday, three have accepted Ch ri st s in ce then.Sunday evening many members helped to carry and s e t up a l l the equipment. The e lec t r icity had been off for ten days but it came on in time so we didn 't have to use a generator.Christian Adjel p reached in English, Joseph Nsiah, our other Ghanaian teacher, interpretedinto Twi and one of the church members interpreted into Ewe After the sermon Joseph gavea long, f ie ry i nv it at io n. Members who had been taught what to do talked with them individual ly . Our counsellors are mostly young people in the i r early 20's . We have learned fromexperience tha t many who respond in s uch mee tin gs simp ly do not follow through in sp i teof careful follow up. Each counsellor, however, accepted the responsibi l i ty to maintainc o n t a c t and do w ha te ve r h e c ou l d to conse rve th e c on ve rt . Less than h a l f o f t h o s e t h i r t e e nare members bu t t he i r inf luence has helped br ing four o r f iv e other s . We pra i se the Lordfor that

This led to the need to teach the new members some special l ess ons to help ground them inthe Word of Cod After prayer and some puzzlement a young we man who also speaks good Twigreeed to teach them He will have an outline to help guide him as this is his first teachingventure. Another cause for pra ise. The visitation group that does shepherding will be ledfuring the holidays by Kwame 20 our college watchman-student-Christian brother. Three ofthese young men will be helping Christian plan the monthly schedule of a ll church servicesand responsibilities. A year ago they were no t ready for such work. We just thank the Lordhow he raised them up and helped them learn.Remember the yovng men I was teaching to drive? Two of them took my car one Sunday afternoon and went x^^lth David Cou^ to the lake to take people for baptism. On a recent SaturdayJohn drove C hr istian and thi^e others to a brotherhood council meeting using siy car. What awonderful help to have others who can drive f

We concluded our mini-Bible survey class with a test and then some small prizes I wasgrat i f ied with the response.
