    Smart Choices

May 4, 1994 was a day our nation will never forget. It was the day 18-year-old Michael Fay was to bepunished for the crime he had committed. The entirenation had been watching his trial and now they would

    learn of his punishment.

Fay had pleaded guilty to spray painting several carsin Singapore. His punishment would consist of fourhits with a wooden cane and a $2,200 ne.Fay received his four hard hits and then wasreleased from prison. Michael Fay paid his debtto society but the humiliation he brought uponhis family would never fade away.

Read Proverbs 10:1. How can a teen bring

joy to his or her parents?

What is an incident that caused your parents embarrassment?

How did you feel when you realized your parents had been humiliated?

The Bible teaches you to obey andhonor your parents. There will betimes when you think they dontunderstand, accept, or even love you.But they do. Your parents love youmore than you will ever know. Your responsibilityis to love and respect them. Commit today torespecting your family.

This week, consider any changes you mightneed to make in your life to love and respect

    your family.

    Total Trust

Fire ghters never stop training. They are constantly running, liftingweights, and climbing ladders. Theseare all very important aspects oftheir job. But the most important

aspect is trusting one another in aburning building.

Fire ghters will practice entering aburning home by putting tape overtheir mask. If they cant see wherethey are going then they are forcedto stay together and follow the leadre ghter. This increases the trustfactor within the group. Followingsomeone blindly can be a

    scary thought.

Have you ever trusted someonewith a blind faith? Explain.

    Are you comfortable putting your

life in the hands of other people? Why or why not?

Read Genesis 22:6-12. How did Isaac demonstrate his trust in his father?

Abraham knew what was best for hissonand Isaac was obedient enoughto follow his father wherever he

    went. Your parents have probably

made some decisions in the pastwith which you did not agree orunderstand at the time. Thosedecisions were probably made tobene t you in some way.

If you cant commit to obeying yourearthly father and/or mother, youwill never be able to commit toobeying your heavenly Father.

God knows where He wants to leadyou. Trust Him.

My PrayerGod, give me strengthto follow Youevery day.

    Faithful Follower

The Alaskan Husky is an amazing dog. It only weighsabout 50 pounds but is capable of pulling twice its bodyweight. The animal is bred with just one purpose in mindand that is to pull a sled. They are the best sled dogs in theworld. An Alaskan Husky will run for hours and hundredsof miles at the command of his master. They are faithfulto run because they want to please the one leading them.

As Gods children we should want to please Him ineverything we do.

What are some of the areas in your life that are not pleasing to God?

Read Colossians 3:20. What command does Gods Word give you about your parents?

Sometimes it is hard for teenagers and parents to seeeye-to-eye on certain issues. Your job is not to agree ordisagree with your parents but to obey their leadership.God is glori ed when you honor and obey your parents.

Do you and your parents struggle to communicate? Inwhat ways?

How does this make it hard to follow and trust them?

Have you talked to God about obeying your parents? Ifnot (and even if you have), spend some time this weekthanking God for your parents and asking Him to help youplease Him by honoring and obeying your parents

    this week.

My PrayerLord, help me to be anobedient follower ofYou by honoring andobeying my parentsthis week.
