Moeller supplies an intelligent system platform from a single sourcefor the switchgear and protective devices which the panel builder canindividually engineer, quickly build – and which is easy in terms of handling.
The Moeller xEnergy system – which is comprised of switching andprotective devices, the installation system technology and the control panelincluding the planning and calculation tools – is ideally suited to the needsof safe energy distribution. xEnergy achieves a level of flexibility whichallows optimum usage resulting from its consequent implementation of acommon platform concept.
Individual projects – regardless of if they are in the area of functionalbuildings, office buildings or industrial building infrastructure – can be quicklyand efficiently implemented. Our customers not only save on time, money andspace; they also put their trust on the well tried and tested security fromMoeller.
The new xEnergy system range from Moeller forms a technical andeconomic unit comprised of switchgear and protective equipment, therespective installation system technology and the control panelcomponents. Low mounting time requirement and high levels of flexibilityare required for optimum mechanical adaptation of the control panelcomponents to the Moeller switchgear.
The type test of the complete units consisting of switchgear, installationsystem technology and control panel to IEC EN 60439 also ensure a highlevel of security. This modular system can be extended to cope withincreased demands within minutes.
Moeller is certified to DIN ISO 9001. You can rely on the type-testedproducts from Moeller. Moeller relies on a modular system with xEnergy,which is made up of made-to-measure type-tested function modulesconform to IEC/EN 60439. The system modules – available from Form 1 toForm 4 – are constructed to suit local installation habits (DIN VDE, CEI,

TTA, Type test and regulations for building and testing
xEnergy sections are type-tested low-voltage switchgear combinationsTTA conform to IEC EN 60439-1. Type testing has been performed in acertified test laboratory.The sections – meeting the stipulations (relating to switchgear andxEnergy kits) in this catalogue – conform to the demands regarding thefollowing type tests:• short-circuit rating• temperature-rise limit• effectiveness of the protective conductor• air and creepage distances• insulation resistance• mechanical function• degree of protection
Deviations in the versions of the xEnergy sections in the following areaslead to an amendment of the properties of the type-tested sections:• components installed• dimensionsamendments in the following areas are not permissible:• short-circuit rating• heating• air and creepage distances• degree of protection• arcing chambers of the switchgear• etc.
The manufacturer of the xEnergy power distribution system is the panelbuilder according to the IEC/EN 60439-1 standard. During constructionand mounting of the power distribution system he must observe theassembly manuals (BA) and the installation instructions (AWA) supplied byMoeller the supplier. The power distribution system is to be implementedby the panel builder conform to the IEC/EN 60439-1 standard.
The details concerning current derating and short-circuit ratings must beurgently considered when designing and dimensioning the switchgearsystem.Refer to chapter 14

control rooms.• Section height doors with Espagnolette lock and 4-point locking for simple
operation.
Mounting kits• Adjustable height mounting plates on a 17.5 mm grid enable perfect alignment
of the operating level of the Moeller circuit-breakers to a common level, withoutrequirement for other components.
• Pre-drilled mounting plates with all the required cut-outs for cable entries orconnection on rear of the Moeller circuit-breakers reduce the mounting times toa minimum.
• Cover plates bolted-on to both sides or on one side with hinges for improvedinstallation and maintenance accessibility.
• A maximum of 38 fixed installation modules, height 50 mm can be fitted into anIP55 outgoer section.
Busbars• Duplex copper profile rails for double side connection without drilling of cables
or busbars along the entire conductor length. High stability on a short-circuit.• Self-locking T-head bolt for fast and safe terminals.

On low-voltage switchgear systems with a high requirement for operatingcontinuity, ARCON offers maximum protection during an arc-fault andguarantees a high level of security for operating personnel and switchgearsystems. ARCON also offers personnel protection with opened control
panel doors.
By parallel detection of an arc-fault with light and current sensors: theoptical sensors monitor and signal the characteristic frequency range of thearc-fault. If a current transformer simultaneously detects and overcurrent(2 x I n), the electronics sends a signal to the quenching device and to theincoming circuit-breakers.The ARC-AT quenching device generates a three-pole metallic short-circuitand thus dissipates and limits the energy from the arcto a max. arc time of 2 ms.As a result, the pressure and temperature parameters which can destroythe system are limited at a very early stage. The effects of an arc remainlimited to the foot points of the arc.
Causes which can lead to the occurrence of an arc include• Operating and handling faults (e.g. a tool forgotten after maintenance)• Connection faults (e.g. with transport split)• Foreign bodies in the system (e.g. rodents)• Overvoltages (e.g. by switching processes)
What happens after an arc-fault?• After an arc-fault the cause must be found and eliminated.• The quenching device is exchanged.• After an insulation test has been performed, the system is ready for
renewed operation.
ARC-AT quenching device
The ARC-Detection arc fault detection system consists of ARCON sensorsand the ARCON evaluation (master unit and slave modules). The arc isdetected by the detection system, evaluated and shutdown via the
incoming circuit-breaker.Point sensors (ARC-SP) are used for optical monitoring of the system.These point sensors are based on electro-optical phototransistors and canbe quickly and easily positioned in the switchgear system.
Parallel to the detection of the light emission, monitoring of the arc-fault
current is the second criteria for shutdown of an arc-fault. The currentdetection is implemented via a measurement transformer which isinstalled before every incoming circuit-breaker.
The total shutdown time of the arc-fault detection system is primarilydetermined by the break time of the circuit-breaker, and is between 25 and70 ms. In addition to the improved personnel protection, the sensors alsooffer improved system protection. The effects of the arc fault remainlimited to the arc-fault relevant section.
Use of ARCON1)
The ARCON arc-fault protection system for the xEnergy system is availableto the local panel builder. The functional installation is performed inaccordance with the stipulations and technical documents from Moeller.
The installation of the ARCON arc-fault protection system in xEnergy isperformed under the following prerequisites:All ARCON system components are used exclusively for the installation inthe xEnergy switchgear system.
The panel builder completes an ARCON system training with the followingcontent:• System/functions• Selection/engineering• Installation/commissioning
Moeller awards a certificate after the ARCON training has been completedwhich certifies the qualification for the application of ARCON in xEnergyswitchgear systems.

Rated currents of up to 6000 A and highshort-circuit ratings with rated short-timewithstand currents up to 100 kA are nolonger unusual.
The compact design, not to mention theintegration of electronic components intosupply networks subject to powerfulharmonics, requires precise rating andtesting of the switchgear assembly.
Safe operation of a low-voltage switchgearassembly is only ensured where the
manufacturer complies with theappropriate standard for the assembly inquestion and also verifies the fact.
Only switchgear assemblies which complywith current standards fulfil today's safetyregulations

These three standards are identical interms of content. They show twooptions for the manufacturing ofswitchgear assemblies:
– Type-tested assembly (TTA)– Partially type-tested assemblies (PTTA)
Type-tested assembly (TTA)
In assemblies of this sort, all componentsare type-tested separately and in theirfunctional state, including all electrical andmechanical connections.
Where other devices are used for switchingand protection, it is a requirement that thetechnical data are at least the same orbetter (argument by analogy).
Partially type-tested assemblies(PTTA)
Both type-tested and non type-testedcomponents are comprised in this type ofassembly. Non-type-tested componentsmust be based on type-tested ones.

b) Proof of the short-circuit rating is notrequired for switchgear assemblies
which are protected by a current-limitingprotective device and where the let-through current 15 kA
Where an extrapolation or calculation toDIN VDE 0660 Part 509 is necessary, this isalways based on values derived from type-tested busbar systems.
Only where all information has been clearlyproduced can the terms type-tested low-voltage switchgear and controlgearassembly (TTA) and partially type-testedassembly (PTTA) be used. This combinationthus corresponds to the valid safetyregulations.

In the main, when rating switchgear
assemblies with regard to short-circuitwithstand strength, the rated short-circuitvalues must be compared with the short-circuit currents of the incoming powersupply. The switchgear assembly must berated merely for the short-circuit load whichcan occur. The busbars must resist thethermal and dynamic load of the short-circuit current which may flow in them(such as via a circuit-breaker on theincoming side, and for a limited time). Tofacilitate rating, only the rated values of theswitchgear assembly according to thefollowing scheme are used.
The let-through characteristics of the short-circuit protective device and the dampingeffect of the connection between thetransformer and the switchgear assemblyare thus disregarded.

Where a short-circuit protective deviceleads to a restriction in the duration of theshort-circuit, a rated short-time withstandcurrent can be applied for a correspondinglength of time. Example: incoming circuit-breaker disconnects short-circuit after 40ms; an established rated short-timewithstand current value for 100 ms iscompared with transformer short-circuitcurrent for rating purposes. The ratedoperational voltage U e must be the same or

The procedure described above for ratingthe switchgear assembly refers primarily tothe rating of main busbar systems. Rating ofthe distribution busbar systems and/or of allconnections from the main busbar to theincoming side of function units, need onlybe rated for the reduced short-circuit loadwhich may occur on the outgoing side ofthe short circuit protective device for thefunction units. It is a prerequisite that,under normal operating conditions, a short-circuit is not expected to occur on thesedistribution busbars or connections.
Example:The transformer short-circuit current I ''k =90 kA, the selected main busbars have a
rated short-time-withstand current I cw of100 kA, however the distribution busbarshave a rated short-time withstand current I cw of only 65 kA (because the circuit-breaker for the outgoer from thedistribution busbar, thanks to its current-limiting effect, has reduced the short-circuitload).

Low-voltage switchgear assembliescan be divided by means of partitions orbarriers into separate compartments or
enclosed protected spaces. The aim offorming separate compartments orenclosed protected spaces which containthe functional units is:

Operation and maintenance gangways within the switchgear combinations
The minimum width for operation andmaintenance of switchgear combinations is700 mm, the minimum headroom under the
panelling is 2000 mm. If a crane is used forexchanging circuit-breakers, the gangwaydimensions must be considered during the
design phase.
The doors of the switchgear combinationshould be arranged so that they closeproperly. With a different assignment, a
free access clearance of 500 mm mustremain. If switchgear combinations areinstalled opposite each other, it is not
necessary to consider that doors on bothsides are opened simultaneously.
