In the 1970’s there were some projects attempting to heat homes with attached greenhouses and perhaps produce food.

In 1980 the Mears home was modified based on the experience with solar heating for commercial greenhouses.

An addition to the house included a flooded floor storage and a wood stove with water coil. The greenhouse had a flooded floor.

There was a solar collector to heat domestic hot water or either floor storage system.
