    Unit ConceptsOrganize a composition usingphotographic processes.

    Utilize art elements, designprinciples, and technicalprocesses in the construction of a

    functional object.

    Homework: Make 2 sketches after researching Day of the Dead. Inat least one of the sketches, you should begin to break down the drawing

    into a 50/50 light/dark design suitable for printmaking transfer.

    Students will collaborate to create effective cyanotypes based

    upon the principles of composition and design.

    October 29, 2011 Woodcuts planning an effectiveimage

    Unit ConceptsApply relief printmakingprocesses to develop an effectivecomposition that utilizes personalimagery from sketchbooks basedon cultural exemplars.

    Homework: Research printmaking images and print out 3 examples ofmark-making that you want to incorporate into your print next class. The

    bus leaves Howard at 8:30am, next class, November 19. Have yourpermission slip signed.

    Students will use Day of the Dead as inspiration for creating

    large scale collaborative drawings suitable for printmaking.

    November 12, 2011 Pyramid Atlantic- Day One

    Unit Concepts

    Exploration of an artist workspace.

    Observation of others artwork to

    strengthen ones own work.

    Artists collaborate for a

    diversified final work.

    Homework: The bus leaves Howard at 8:30am, next class,November 19.

    Studio Problem/ApproachesStudents will transfer their image to the block (plywood). We will also take part in a

    tour of the facility and gallery walk of the collection art Pyramid Atlantic.

    Media Usage: Carving wood.Artists collaborate for adiversified final work.

    Homework: The bus leaves Howard at 8:30am, next class,December 3.

    Students will learn how to carve wood relief.

    Students will carve their group image in large plywood sheets.

    Homework: Finish drawings if not completed, you will need themfinished for our next class.

    Studio Problem/ApproachesStudents will observe the way different direct lighting scenarios affect the form of thehuman head/face. Students will then draw at least 3 self portraits using these light

    sources.

    January 28th, 2012 Intaglio Prints

    Unit Concepts

    Apply intaglio printmakingprocesses to develop aneffective composition thatdemonstrates meaning ormood based upon a self-

    portrait from observation.

    Homework: Bring in a sample painting (in color) that

    youve completed outside of school.

    Studio Problem/Approaches

    Students will use intaglio printmaking methods to effectivelytransfer a self-portrait to a plate and print multiple editions.

    Unit ConceptsAccurately depict the formal and technicalqualities that describe an object such assurface, texture, form, structure and itsrelationship to space in the picture planeto effectively use compositional space.

    Homework: In your sketchbook, use watercolor paints to plan out 5 possiblecolor schemes for your microscopic drawings next class. Bring in a typed print-out

    Students will learn about the field of medical illustration as aspringboard for their own drawings based on various slides asobserved through a microscope.
