Given by R unless immediately thrown after snap in which case wing has option to signal. Same signal to indicate player nearest wing is off the line of scrimmage.

Use Of The Penalty Marker

• Should be tucked out of sight• Discretion, officiating position, and game situation should

determine whether you throw a flag!• As a general rule:• Dead Ball Foul – Air it (i.e., encroachment)• Live Ball Foul – Throw to spot (i.e., holding)

Requesting a measurement

• Must be made prior to the ready-for-play signal• Must be made in a courteous manner• If it is obvious that the line to gain has or has not been

reached, the request will be denied
