English for Special Purpose (ESP) courses for medical students
consist of select pieces of English texts aimed at developing
abilities of learners in medical English and terminology. This
course focuses on the various issues that individuals might face in
the field of medicine.
Course expectations for ESP 1 include:
· improve still more general and social English language skills and
pronunciation
· strengthens students’ abilities in reading medical English
texts
· develop specific vocabulary and expressions for English used
in the medical sector
· raise students’ awareness of intercultural issues and
‘international English’
· enhance students’ communication skills in dealing with
English-speaking patients and colleagues
· empower students to practise giving presentations in
English
Course Profile:
· 17 weeks duration
· Review previous courses 20 minutes
· Introducing new lessons 10 minutes
· Power point show 20 minutes
· Group and individual discussions 20 minutes
· Break 20 minutes
· Doing drills 30 minutes
· Students’ presentations 20 minutes
· Taking attendance 5 minutes
