Hey Division 6, I hope everyone’s getting excited for summer! Even though school is over, you can still be an active member of Key Club by volunteering around your community! Try organizing a beach cleanup in your area or visit a local animal shelter with a few of your friends. If you are interested in volunteering with other Division 6 Key Clubbers you can participate in “Operation Care and Comfort” at Old Navy on June 30th! Key Clubbers will be handing flyers and collecting donations for overseas troops and their families. If you are interested in attending please type your name in one of the available time slots here. If you’re a little reluctant to spare one of your summer days on a service project, there’s a movie theater right next to Old Navy! You can invite a few of your friends to volunteer and then see a movie afterwards!

I would like to thank all the clubs who submitted their Election Report Forms and Monthly Report Forms on time. Please consult the Paperwork Status chart on page 5 in

There are workshops and service projects and it’s going to be a lot of fun! Stay tuned for more info in the next few months! International Projects and Programs

Committee Chair Alex Mandriota

Dear members of the mighty New York District Key Club: The International Projects Committee for the 2012 – 2013 service year is up and running. The three district projects for this year are March of Dimes, UNICEF, and The Children’s Miracle Network. This year the district is striving for bigger and better things, therefore each key clubber must put both feet forward in conducting as much service towards these charities as possible to not only meet, but to surpass the district goals. March of Dimes is an amazing organization that has a mission of preventing premature birth, birth defects, infant mortality and improving the overall health of all babies. Composed of many volunteers, researchers, educators, outreach workers, and advocates, they who work together to carry out their mission of March of Dimes through community services, education, advocacy, and research to save babies’ lives. The district goal for March of Dimes is $15,000 as well as 15,000 service hours. UNICEF is an international organization that is even mandated by the United Nations to advocate for the protection of Children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs, and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. This includes child survival and development, providing basic education with gender equality, providing treatment to HIV/AIDS infected children, and to better a policy of advocacy and partnership. The entirety of this organization is based on good practices and developing a relationship not only with the people they are helping but also with the volunteers and donors. The district goal for UNICEF is $50,000 as well as 25,000 service hours The Children’s Miracle Network is an international organization with an outstanding mission. Their goal is to actively supply and improve the health care for millions of young individuals all around the world. By generating funds and awareness, the Children’s Miracle Network is now in over 170 hospitals nationwide. In generating not only hours of service but also donations you are impacting young lives who are battling every type of childhood illness and injury by giving them health and happiness. The district goal for the Children’s Miracle Network is $15,000 as well as 10,000 service hours. For all three of the above charities it is up to the mighty Key Clubbers of the New York District to come forth and provide as much service as possible. The service ideas are endless! Some examples of Ideas are as follows…

International Convention

International Convention in Orlando, Florida is now only a few weeks away! NYDKC is going to be at the Walt Disney World Hilton Resort from July 1- July 8! The convention is going to be a fun-filled four days of meeting Key Clubbers from around the world and voting for the new International Board! The part of the trip that I’m most excited for is the “behind the scenes” tour of Disney World! I’ve never been to Florida, let alone Disney, so this is going to be a really unique experience for me.

NYDKC’s Leadership Training Conference in April was a lot of fun, but it was only a small event compared to ICON. At LTC, almost all of your day is predetermined and you’re only option is to attend a scheduled workshop or meeting. At ICON, you have a lot more freedom and while on the NYDKC Tour you can spend time with friends and enjoy everything Disney has to offer. ICON also has fun events like an 80’s dance, a Service Fair, a huge award ceremony, and the famous Key Club Store!

Although I’m very excited be attending ICON, it’s unfortunate that only a few D6 members are going to be there! I hope that in the future, more people will be able to experience the wonder that is International Convention!

Major Emphasis Project

Each year, Key Club International chooses a project for Key Club’s across the globe to focus on. This year’s Major Emphasis Project (MEP) is “Children: Their Future, Our Focus”. When planning events, Key Clubs are encouraged to keep children as the focus of their project. Some examples of events that involve the MEP are making bookmarks for elementary students, tutoring kids in your community, having a field day in a local park, holding a school supplies drive for children affected by poverty, and raising money to help buy new textbooks for your school.

About Me

LTG Paul

LTG Paul

Since I’m going to be your Lieutenant Governor for this Service Year, I feel that it’s necessary that you know a little bit about me. I’m a freshman at East Meadow High School and I’m a hardworking student in addition to being involved in a lot of clubs. An interesting fact about myself is that I really don’t know what I want to do when I’m older. Generally, when people go into high school, they have a pretty good idea on what they want to do with the rest of their life. Well, I have a lot of interests and I dabble in a lot different fields. I’m a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, the Math team, Model Congress, and I recently starting volunteering at “Youth Court” at the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.

Of course, Key Club is my favorite club and I’m always working on planning an event or emailing one of the many District Board Members. A lot of my friends don’t understand why I put so much time into Key Club but it’s really because I love doing service! I’ve been volunteering for as long as I can remember and this is really a dream position for me. I’m able to meet so many new people, hold huge events, and help out charities I may not have known about before!

I’m a busy person by nature and the most important thing about me is that I love Key Club and all of Kiwanis. Hopefully, I’ll be a part of this K-Family for the rest of my life!

When I was a freshman I had no idea that Key Club would play such a large role in my life. I'm so lucky that I have met so many people that are ready to change the world. Thank you all for making me a better leader, and person. I've made so many friends over the years and we've made a huge difference in our community. The time I've spent with you guys has been some of the best moments of my life.

Key Club has prepared me for college in many ways. I've learned time management, social skills, and how to be seen as a professional! I've worked really hard at Division Avenue, Division 6 and for the New York District. I couldn't imagine my life without you guys.

Thank you for your love, service, friendship, and support. Always do what makes you happy.

Service Spotlight

Hi everyone my name is Gina Principato and I’m the President of W.T. Clarke Key Club! The many branches of Kiwanis are known for having leadership and community service abilities, but we recently learned that they also have talent! On May 25th the Bowling Green K-Kids held their 4th annual Talent Show! A numerous amount of Kiwanis branches showed their support and many of them showed the audience their various talents! The overall best act of the night was a K-Kids member that performed a miraculous dance number! Many Builders Clubbers performed, including a drumming performance from W.T. Clarke Builders Club President Marissa Flaherty. Key Clubbers showed off their talent as well, such as the all-girl a cappella group called the “Treble Makers” that performed hits such as “Call Me Maybe” and “What Makes You Beautiful”. All the proceeds that were raised that night went to Operation Smile and The Eliminate Project. That night we raised $2700 which is going to be split between the two charities. The talent show was a great event filled with entertainment and lots of laughter!

Hello, my name is Ola Krol and I’m the President of East Meadow High School Key Club! This past year has been very exciting due to its many events. This year’s LISC Bowling Party can add itself to the year’s many successes! The party was a fun filled event, and everyone enjoyed bonding with fellow Key Club members and the community’s well doers. The multiple games of bowling shared their promise of excitement and everyone had a blast, especially those who had the chance of calling themselves champions. Lieutenant Governor Paul De Santis did a great job of spreading the word of the event, and himself enjoyed his time bonding with his fellow East Meadow Key Club. The success of this year’s LISC Bowling Party only brings high standards for next year, which can surely be delivered!
