Warning and safety instructions
Use
Caution, danger of burning!
High temperatures are produced bythe hob cooking areas.
Great care should be taken to ensurethat small children do not touch the ap-pliance when it is being used. The hob
can become quite hot. Turn panhandles away from the edge to preventchildren from pulling pans over.
When switched on the cookingareas heat up. A residual heat indi-
cator shows whether a cooking zone ishot.
Apart from pans with contents donot place any metallic object on
the hob. It could heat up. There is adanger of burning.
In the event of any breakages orcracks occurring in the ceramic
hob it must be switched off immediate-ly and disconnected from the electricitysupply.Contact the Service Department.Do not use the hob until the damagedceramic plate has been replaced.
Continued use would be dangerous asliquids etc. boiling over could pene-trate to the electrical componentsthrough any crack.
Do not use the hob as a restingplace for any other objects. This
could lead to a danger of the articlecatching fire or melting, if there is anyresidual heat.
Do not drop anything on the ce-ramic hob.
Even a light object such as an eggcup, could cause damage in certain cir-cumstances.
Do not allow either solid or liquid
sugar or pieces of plastic or alu-mium foil to get on to the cookingzones when they are hot. If this shouldoccur, turn to a lower setting but do notswitch off. Immediately scrape off allthe sugar, plastic or aluminium remains
from the hob with a shielded razorblade scraper, taking care not to burnyourself. If these residues are allowed
to cool before the hob surface hasbeen cleaned, the ceramic surface willbe susceptible to pitting or even crack-ing.
Do not use any pots or pans on theceramic hob with bases with pro-
nounced edges or ridges.
These could scratch or scour the hobsurface permanently.
Do not push enamelled pots orpans such as chip pans across the
ceramic hob as this can cause scrat-ches to occur.

Warning and safety instructions
General notes
Under no circumstances use asteam cleaner to clean this ap-
pliance. Pressurised steam could giverise to a short circuit, or cause perma-nent damage to the surface and tocomponents, for which the manufac-turer of the oven cannot accept anyresponsibility.
Do not leave the appliance unat-tended when cooking with oils and
fats as these can be a fire hazard ifallowed to overheat.
Do not use plastic or aluminium foilcontainers. These melt at high tem-
peratures. Additionally they could dam-age a ceramic hob as they melt.
Do not use the ceramic hob to
heat up the room. Due to the high
temperatures radiated, objects left nearthe hob could catch fire.
When using kitchen appliancesconnected to sockets near the ce-
ramic hob, ensure that the cable can-not come in contact with the hot cook-ing zones, which could melt the cableinsulation and be dangerous.
Always ensure that food is suffi-ciently cooked or reheated. Many
factors will affect the overall cookingtime, including the size and amount offood, its temperature, changes torecipe and the shape and size of cook-ing container. Some foods may containmicro organisms which are only de-stroyed by thorough cooking, thereforewhen cooking or reheating foods, e.g.poultry, it is particularly important thatfood is fully cooked through. If in doubt
select a longer cooking or reheatingtime.
It is important that the heat is
allowed to spread evenly throug-hout the food being cooked. This can be achieved by stirring and/orturning the food, and by observing asufficiently long standing time, whichshould be added to the time needed
for cooking, reheating or defrosting.
In countries which may be subjectto infestation by cockroaches or
other vermin, pay particular attention tokeeping the appliance and its surround-ings in a clean condition at all times.Any damage which might be caused
by cockroaches or other vermin will not
be covered by the appliance guaran-tee.

Hob controls
The cooking zones are controlled byheat regulators.
Only turn the cooking zone controlas far as it will go in a clockwisedirection and back again. Turningthe control any other way coulddamage it.
The display for the cooking zone lights
up when the cooking zone is switchedon. The colour of the display will
deepen from a light shade for a low set-ting to a red for the highest setting
The cooking zone controls are fittedwith an "Auto heat-up" feature. This isactivated when the cooking zones are
switched on. After reaching an initialhigh temperature the "Auto heat-up" theautomatically switches to the continua-tion setting choosen, and the heat is lo-wered accordingly, without the need formanual intervention.
The length of the "Auto heat-up" time
depends on the setting selected.Different heat-up times have been pro-grammed for settings 1 7 (for boiling)and 8 12 (for frying). The "Auto heat-up" period increases in
step with settings 1 7; from 8 12however the times are shorter. If the setting within range 1 7 is al-tered during the "Auto heat-up" periodthe period will lengthen accordingly.
If the pan is removed from the cook-ing zone when "pan recognition"has been activated, the cooking
zone will switch itself off, but the"Auto heat-up" period will continueto count down.
If you wish you can turn "Auto heat-up"off:
Turn the cooking zone control to a
setting.
The setting must be higher than theone required.
After 10 seconds turn the control tothe setting required.
The "Auto heat-up" is now inactivated.
For cookers and control units with aclock timer
When the two front zones are beingused for cooking they can be switchedon or off automatically independently of
each other.

Description of the hob
Cooking zones - diameters
The cooking zones are clearly markedon the hob surface.
Only the particular zone which hasbeen switched on will beheated. Therest of the hob surface remains rela-tively cool.
Residual heat indicator
There is an indicator light for each
cooking zone in the hob display field. When a cooking zone is switched on itsindicator lights up.This also serves as a residual heat in-dicator, which stays on after the cook-ing zone has been switched off, andonly goes out when this area of the ce-ramic surface has reached a tempera-ture safe to touch.
Pan recognition
Each cooking zone has a "pan recogni-tion" feature. With this the zone only
starts heating up once a pan has beenplaced on it.
"Pan recognition" reacts when a panof a suitable metal is used.
It also reacts when any object of asuitable metal is placed on it, so it
is very important to switch the zoneoff immediately after use for cook-ing.
When the pan is removed, the flow ofenergy is interrupted. The indicatorlight in the hob display field for thatzone flashes.
When the pan is placed back on the
zone the zone switches on again andthe light stays on constantly.
If you are using a pan made fromnon-metallic material, e.g. glass, ce-ramic, you can turn off the "pan rec-ognition" feature as follows:
Turn the control anti-clockwise be-
yond the figure "0" until the controllight comes on.
Then turn the zone control clockwise
to the setting required.
To reactivate the "pan recognition" fea-ture again turn the zone control to "0".

Description of the hob
Extended cooking zones
Use the corresponding cooking zonecontrol to switch on the extended zone.
There is an indicator light in the hob dis-play field for each extended cookingzone. This lights up when the cookingzone extension is switched on.
Turn the control in a clockwise direc-tion until a resistance is felt. Other-
wise it can be damaged.
Turn the control clockwise beyondsetting 12 to the symbol "".
Then turn to the setting required.
Turning the control back to "0" switches off the cooking zone, switches off the cooking zone exten-
sion.

Hobs - use
Choice of suitable pans
Attention to correct choice and use ofpans
will help you obtain the best cookingresult most economically,
and generally avoid food boilingover and sticking.
Pan bases
For maximum economy of electricity
when cooking or frying, only use panswith a flat or very slightly concavebase. When hot the pan will rest evenlyon the hob. Modern saucepans for elec-tric cookers are the most suitable and
efficient for use on ceramic cookingzones.
Size of pan
The diameter of the saucepan or fryingpan should be very slightly larger thanthat of the hotplate/cooking area.
Pan lids
Cooking with the lid on the pan retainsthe heat.

15/28
Hobs - use
Notes on the use on hobs
Take care before starting to cook
that there is no grit or sand on thesurface of the hob.
This would scratch the surface, espe-cially if a pan was pushed across.
Do not use any pots or pans wherethe base has ridges or a pro-nounced edge.
These could also cause scratches.
Do not push roasting tins or bakingtrays etc across the ceramic sur-face. Scratches could occur.
Aluminium or stainless steel panswith aluminium bases can leavemarks with a metallic sheen on the
ceramic surface. Clean these awayat the earliest opportunity, (see Sec-tion on Cleaning and Care).
Never leave boiled-over sugar or sy-rups, plastic items or aluminium foilon the hob. If this does happen,
turn the hob to a lower setting, buton no account switch it off. Use ashielded scraper blade to scrapeoff the sugar, plastic or foil residuethoroughly.
If these residues are allowed to cool be-fore the hob surface has been cleaned, the ceramic surface will be susceptibleto pitting or even cracking.

Cleaning and care
Ceramic hob surface
In general you can use the same clean-ing agents for the ceramic hob surface
as you would for ordinary glass sur-faces.
Never use scouring agents or pads,or strong cleaners such as ovensprays or stain removers, as thesecould harm the surface.
Clean after each use
Any minor spills which have notdried on can be wiped off with a
damp cloth or sponge. If washing upliquid or a similar cleaner is used, lightblue staining might occur.
These stains can be removed with a
proprietary ceramic hob cleaningagent, although it may take several ap-plications.
For stubborn spillagesuse a shieldedrazor blade scraper.
Then wipe with a damp cloth orsponge.
Removing marks
Light marks with a metallic sheen(aluminium desposits) on the hob sur-face can be removed once the hob hascooled down by using a suitable pro-prietary cleaner.
Lime deposits(caused for example bywater boiling over, or damp pan bases)
can be removed with vinegar or a pro-prietary hob cleaner.
16
7/23/2019 KM251
17/28
Cleaning and care
Removal of sugar, or syrups, plasticor aluminium foil
Do not let the hob cool down.Scrape the sugar or other residuethoroughly from the hob with ashielded razor blade scraper.
When the hob is cool, switch off andclean with a proprietary cleaner.
Suitable cleaners
There are proprietary cleaners on themarket for cleaning ceramic hobs. Fol-low the manufacturers instructions.
Do not apply to the hob when stillhot.
After applying the cleaner let it dry andthen rub it off using paper kitchen to-wels.
Remove every trace of cleaner from
the hob with a damp cloth. It couldhave an adverse effect on the hobwhen heated up.
Some cleaners incorporate a siliconeingredient which acts as a protectivefilm on the hob. It makes the hob sur-face smoother and prevents water andsoiling adhering to the surface.
However, cooking at high temperaturesreduces the effect and the cleanerneeds to be reapplied for renewed ef-fect.
By always cleaning the ceramic sur-face with one of these special cleaners
you will help to avoid the damagecaused by sugar and syrups and alumi-nium foil deposits.

Correcting minor faults
Installation, maintenance and re-pairs to the electrical componentsof this appliance should only be car-
ried out by a fully competent per-son.Unauthorised repairs can be dan-gerous.
Some minor problems however can bedealt with as follows:
What to do if . . .
. . . A slight smell is given off brieflywhen the hob heats up for the firsttime?
This is not a fault but is caused by themoisture in the insulation dissipating.
. . . The hob cooking zones do not
warm up after being switched on
Check to see whether the control dis-play is illuminated.
If not, check whether:
the hob lock is activated.
the house mains fuse has blown.Contact a qualified electrician or the
Miele Service department.
. . . A cooking zone switches itself offduring use?
This is not a fault.
If the cooking zone is used for an un-usually long period of time the safety
switch is activated.
The length of time, between approx1 10 hours, depends on the settingwhich has been programmed. Thehigher the setting the shorter the timebefore the automatic safety switch is
activated. To use the cooking zone again:
Turn the cooking zone control first ofall to another setting and then back
to the setting originally used.
If the setting is altered during the cook-
ing process the time will be calculatedaccording to the most recently selectedsetting.

19/28
Correcting minor faults
. . . The contents in the pan are notproperly cooked or have not startedto cook?
Check whether:
You are using a pan with a heat re-taining bottom surface.
The heat from the bottem of the pan willtransfer slowly to the food.
You are using too large a pan.
In both of the above cases, choose a
higher heat-up level or bring to the boilat setting 12 and then turn down.
. . . The indicator light in the hob dis-play is flashing?
The "pan recognition" feature is not
operating.
Check whether:
You are using a non-metallic pan.If so switch off the "pan recognition".
There was a delay in placing the panon the cooking zone after it wasswitched on. In this case it is necess-
ary to turn the cooking zone controlback to "0" before the hob can bebrought into use again.
