no-barrier. Hangzhou Public Library is located in Building J, the Citizen Center in Qianjiang CBD, with a building area of 43,000 m2 in total. The
library building provides 2, 300 reading seats, with more than 4000,000 book collection.
Besides providing adequate terminals for information inquiry, the library is well covered with Wi-Fi, which has also adopted Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) for circulation management, realizing the automatic borrow-and-return.
Hangzhou Public Library has actively explored and practiced the system of “Central Library – Main & Branch Libraries”. At present, a new library
system has been established that Hangzhou Public Library operates as the centre library, Hangzhou Children’s library and 11 district or county
public libraries, as well as some other professional branches as the branch libraries. Hangzhou Public Library has become a combination of public
libraries’ technology centre, cataloging centre, and professional guidance centre.
With first-class facilities and advanced equipments, Hangzhou Public Library provides various forms of cultural activities, to create a
complimentary platform of diverse artistic forms and a great many cultural activities for the public to participate and enjoy. In the popularization
of culture and art, Hangzhou Public Library advocates the social respect for reading, and help to promote “reading as a lifestyle” to the public.
Hangzhou Public Library set the goal to be the city’s classroom, citizen’s lifelong education centre, historical memory centre, citizen’s cultural and
leisure centre, as well as public information service centre.
►Evergreen Education Foundation
Evergreen Education Foundation is an NGO founded by overseas Chinese friends in 2001 in the United States. Its mission is to bring educational
opportunities to rural China through efforts in the following areas: providing scholarships for the financially disadvantaged, expanding
capabilities of schools and libraries to add value to local communities and advancing knowledge and understanding by exchanges through
conferences and workshops. China Evergreen Rural Library Service (CERLS) was established in 2002. It is responsible for project execution
coordination, and monitoring for Evergreen libraries in China.
Since the first school library - Qinghai DaTong No. 6 High School, Evergreen has helped 40+ libraries in Qinghai, GanSu, ShaanXi, JiangSu, GuiZhou,
YunNan, ShanXi. Among them 18 are central libraries. These libraries in turn helped 20+ satellite libraries nearby. Evergreen's model of library
development in rural China, which focuses on capability building has been widely recognized. CERLS was awarded the 2004 Access to Learning
Award, shared with the Aarhus library of Demark, by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The annual training and workshop or conference is a special service that Evergreen provides for building capacity of the rural libraries. Since 2003,
every other year in the odd years Evergreen organizes a workshop on rural library development, while in the even years, Evergreen hosts an
international conference ITIE (Information Technology in Education) on the same topic. Up to now, Evergreen has held 4 successful international
conferences. Between 200-350 delegates have attended every ITIE international conference. Evergreen sponsors around 100 rural librarians and
teachers to participate in each conference. The conference delegates and the speakers come from many areas, including US, Europe, Taiwan,
Hong Kong, South-east Asia and Mainland China, and consist mostly of educators, library professionals, researchers, and NGO members.

eastern jin xianhe (A.D.328). It has over 1600 years of history, which makes it the earliest temple

beautiful peaks inspired his imagination of faeries hiding themselves among the peaks. This idea
led to his establishing a temple here and naming it “Lingyin”(i.e. faeries are hiding here). Around
the temple there are scenic spots such as Lengquan and Feilai Feng. In Qing dynasty, when
Emperor Kangxi took inspection tours to the South of China, he gave Lingyin Temple the name of
“Yun Lin Chan Si”.
