HUNTER WATER K -Y2 WATER SAVING SHOW

During week 2, K-2 enjoyed a free Water Saving show funded by Hunter Water and performed by ‘Bubbles and Squirt’. The comical performance highlighted how wasteful individuals can be with water and promoted simple ways to use less by instilling water saving habits into everyday behaviour. The performance incorporated the use of clowning, circus, skills, magic and music to deliver a very important lesson about the importance of saving water!

SCHOOL DISCO

Thank you to all of the families who supported our school disco last night! The teachers were very impressed with the behaviour of all students. A big thankyou to our fantastic P&C for organising this event and the wonderful parents and caregivers who volunteered their time to serve at the canteen.

DAY FOR DANIEL Friday 26th November was Day for Daniel. It is a day ran by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation that aims to increase awareness and education of children’s personal safety. All students participated in activities about keeping themselves safe and having a support network of trusted people.

WHOLE SCHOOL TRANSIT ION

During weeks 2 and 4, students in K-5 participated in the internal school transition program. Students enjoyed spending the afternoon session participating in activities and learning about the expectations of their 2019 school year. During this time, Year 5 students enjoyed meeting their 2019 Kinder Buddies and showing them the wonderful things that happen at Glendore Public School!

MINI ME HACKATHON EV ENT

Thank you to our outstanding STEM Leader, Mrs Suzanne Rigley for her work with the MiniMe Project, but also many more projects. The school had 14 representatives at this Hunter and Central Coast Inter-Schools Event.

Our students had a great day learning how to use their Rovers and interacting with other schools and students within the project. It was great to see the schools helping each other out in the afternoon and “self-organising” a Rover race. They really enjoyed the day. Time literally flew. Thank you so much to our parents, who provided transport.

Parents are also treated to some information sessions on transition days and new school uniforms are able to be ordered for Kinder 2019 enrolments.

PARL IAMENT AND CIVIC S EDUCATION REBATE ( PACER)

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Congratulations to Mrs Williams and her husband on the birth of their new baby son!

GLENDORE SUPERSTARS

We would love to acknowledge students who have achieved at Regional, State or National levels. This is particularly if students have represented the school in NSW Department of Education academic, arts, cultural, leadership and sporting achievements. If your child is successful in one

of these areas please email the school. The email should contain a short description of your child’s success no more than 100 words and a photo. Articles will be published in the newsletter throughout the year.

LEAVING SCHOOL

If your child will not be attending Glendore Public School next year, please notify the office as soon as possible, to assist with class planning for next year.

CANOPY CAN DRIVE As Christmas is coming Glendore Public will be participate in the non-perishable food drive for Maryland’s Canopy from 29th October to 23rd November. Please place all non-perishable food items in a box in the office foyer by 23rd November. The food collected helps supply emergency food to families that are in desperate need in the area. During the last financial year the community centre provided food that benefited over 6600 people, half of those were young people and many of them attended our local schools. The non-perishable food is only used in dire emergencies of which we have had in increasing numbers this year. However, we do distribute rescued food of reasonable quality 3 times a week. Food distribution is done entirely by volunteers and we do not get any funding therefore relying on efforts of the public to help us meet an ever growing demand. We also have a couple of other programs that could be of benefit to those families in your school communities who are struggling. If you would like to find out more about these services please contact Maryland canopy on 49558111

CHILDREN’S UNIVERSIT Y

Children’s University Graduation will be held at the University of Newcastle on Monday the 5th of November. Students will meet at school and catch the bus to graduation. We will meet parents/caregivers at the University. Graduating students will receive their awards, eat dinner and have a party! More details will be sent home closer to the date.

SECOND HAND UNIFORM SHOP

The Second Hand Uniform Shop is seeking donations of clean uniforms. In particular we are looking for donations of size 4-6 items ready for the Kindergarten 2019 Transition days. We would very much

appreciate tunics and school logo polo shirts in all sizes. Please ensure that all donations are free of stains, rips and major pilling.

GLENDORE PS ~ ENROLLING YEARS K -6 2019 NOW

Do you know of anyone with a child who lives in the Glendore Public School enrolment area who could commence Kindergarten next year? We have included our Zone Map again in the next column. Please note the satellite image. Please note that while the school locator tool at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/school-finder/index is inaccurate. It will incorrectly attribute new parts of Sanctuary Estate and Hidden Waters Estate to Minmi PS. All of Sanctuary, Hidden Waters, Nikkinbah Ridge; all of Kingfisher Drive, Waterside Drive and Discovery are in Glendore’s Zone. The new Sanctuary North and Sanctuary Views (developing now) are in Glendore’s Enrolment Zone. Always visit Glendore Public School’s website, its administration centre or that of Minmi PS to see live “Near Maps”, which are current as of mid-June, 2018, unlike Google Maps.

Please look out for an A3 Pamphlet Prospectus about our great school. It will be delivered to your letterbox this weekend. Can you spread the word about the great things happening at Glendore Public School. The Outlook and its future expansion is zoned for Minmi. Half of Maryland is in Glendore’s enrolment zone. A “Near View” aerial map is included below to clarify the areas.
