Subject description The distinct focus of the medical Psychology lectures and practices is at the impact of psychological and behavioral processes on physical illness/injury/disability (e.g., onset of, response to, and recovery from illness or injury). A special emphasis will be put on intervention techniques and communication skills which future medical doctors could apply in their own practice. General aims of the subject The aim of the practice is to help students to reflect on their own communication skills, behavior and emotional involvement via structured tasks, based on the psychological and behavioral tenets acquired in the previous semester. During the sessions students are offered the chance to acquire strategies for an efficient doctor-patient relationship through discussing clinical cases and the lecture material. Focusing on the everyday dilemmas of the doctor-patient relationship and different communication styles are the main objectives of the course. Main topics Psychological aspects of: somatisation, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, surgery, general practice. IV. Subject description

The distinct focus of the medical Psychology lectures and practices is at the impact of psychological and behavioral processes on physical illness/injury/disability (e.g., onset of, response to, and recovery from illness or injury). General aims of the subject

Requirements Attendance at lectures (positive catalogue): who attends 80% of the catalogues can

choose between two thesis at the exam.

Oral exam: psychology exam will be held in the frame of the Behavioral Sciences final exam. Have to register in the ETR for the two exams on the same day.

Assessment evaluation (5) Credit 1 Behavioral Sciences final exam

Credits from all Behavioral Sciences courses will be taken into account. The final exam consists of a comprehensive test (written), Medical Psychology exam (oral) and Medical Ethics case analysis (oral).

Requirements Participation at the practices as per the general regulations. NB: in this semester, one practice session can be skipped. Failure to comply with the regulations means failing the semester. One absence is permitted from the practices.

Students are also required to hand in a brief essay with the title: ’Complex analysis of certain clinical situation form the perspective of behaviour sciences’

Those students who don't hand in the essay or hand in the essay over deadline are not eligible to take the Behaviour Sciences exam.

Assessment signature Credit 0 Essay Formal requirements:

Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 spacing, min. 5000 character (2-3 A4 pages). First page: name; year; group; title of subject; essay title. The essay should be printed and handed in to the practice teacher

Deadline: the seminar before the last (10-14. Oct.), AND it also should be uploaded on CooSpace.

Filename: Student’s Name_Essay’s title.doc (Word format)
