1.1 AREA AND SITUATION:

The lot in which I am going to construct this one placed closely together of the city centre. The

exact position of the area, we can see in the following real photos. As we can see our lot is

next to the river Nissan.

HALMSTAD CITY

Our lot does not have a regular form, has a trapezoidal form, in such a way that one of his

faces is parallel to the river.

The lot is big enough, and has a few approximate dimensions of approximately 90 meters in

the long face and approximately 40 meters more or less in the small zone.

The lot has a total surface of approximately 3400 m².

1.2 ACTUAL BUILDINGS AND NEAR BUILDINGS

When I took the pictures, November 2008 in the lot there was a building; it was like a factory

of the company “Matador”. Currently this building was not too interesting and for that they

demolished it .In fact the whole area close to the this factory, it will be constructed again,

giving him a more tourist vision.

The building had two floors with 9 meters of high more or less. The facade of the building in

the river side was made with yellow metal plates giving an industrial looking to the building.

From the back side in the Södra Vägen Street the facade was made with yellow bricks. The

building was really simple because it was made just to make the function of factory.

This place is built by the main river of Halmstad (Nissan River) in an important place.

Currently, this zone is still with a lot of industries. The actual Planning still allows buildings

industries around the river close to sea. In the near future this will change. There are plans for

making this zone more attractive for tourism. In order to make this possible, all the industries

around this area will have to move another place.

In January 2008 they start to demolish the factory and now is just a lot where build something.

1.3 IDEA AND PURPOSE

I wanted to build a school for small children, a nursery, a place for take care of the

children in the time of their parents are working.

The first idea of this building is separate the nursery in three places; one for the

children with age between 4-12 months, another one for ages between 12-24 months

and the last one for ages between 24 and 36 months. This idea is for the different

kinds of attention that the children needs with this age. For instance in the first period

is no necessary toilets just a place for change the nappies though in the last period the

children need toilet because they are learning how to use them.

The first place is going to be prepared for a maximum of 8 children, the second place

for a maximum of 13 children and the last one for a maximum of 20 children.

Separately of this zone, in the west of the building it will be the place for the teachers,

the kitchen, the laundry and all the things necessary for the nursery.

Outside it will be a playground for entertainment.

Another idea is to build a green roof; it means the roof of the building is partially or

completely covered with vegetation and soil, or a growing medium, planted over a

waterproofing membrane. We find several advantages with this kind of roofs as can

be:

-Reduce heating (by adding mass and thermal resistance value) and cooling(by

evaporative cooling)loads on a building.

-Grow vegetables, fruit and flowers.

-Reduce storm water run off.

-Filter pollutants and carbon dioxide out of the air

-Increase roof life span.

-The soil and plants on green roofs help to insulate a building for sound; the soil helps

to block lower frequencies and the plants block higher frequencies.

-Filter pollutants and heavy metals out of rainwater

-Increase wildlife habitat in built-up areas.

Page 16: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

Ana Latorre Introduction

15

I thought this idea when I visited Augustenborg´s botanical roof garden in Malmö, later

I checked the Scandinavian Green Roof Association and I got a lot of information.

The materials of the building are a combination of bricks in the facades with big

windows of glass and wood.

In the lot I’m going to build separately a playground, this playground is going to be

built with prefabricated materials as is common here in Sweden.

I’m not going to pay attention to this, just said the area of this playground is 59,12m2,

is built with wood (prefabricated) and is shown in the distribution plans.

2.2 CONDITIONING OF THE AREA:

The cleaning of the terrain will be made with vegetal land retired and piled up, either if

it´s by manual means or by mechanics, but always being observed by the criteria of the

Technological Regulation. Later, the corresponding land transport will be made with

machine trucks loaded until the next garbage dump of the work.

Once the place is clean will be come to the reframing of the zones to excavate, letting

witnesses of this reframing to be able to make the pertinent verifications at any time.

The drain will be made by mechanic method, being adopted the opportune measures

to avoid as much adjacent own damages as to the public way, being observed at any

moment the fulfillment of the regulation. The leftover grounds of the drain will be

transported with loaded trucks to machine next to garbage dump of the work.

The ditches for strep footings of inclined wall and party wall, and the wells for drains

and curb box will be excavated by mechanical or manual method, being made always

by hand the outlined of their walls, remaining always clean and rubbish and ground,

with clean cuts and horizontal bases .It will follow the criteria of the Regulation. The

leftover ground will be transported with machine trucks loaded, until next garbage

dump of the work.

2.3 FOUNDATION AND GROUND SLABS

The wells, ditches and raft will fill up with prepared reinforced concrete HA-

30/B/25/IIIb-H with 300 kg/cm² of characteristic resistance. This concrete will be

prepared for marine ambience (corrosion induced by chlorides from seawater) and

freezing (IIIb-H). The criterions are explained then.

1º.

• HM (hormigón en masa) Concrete mass.

• HA (hormigón armado) Reinforced concrete.

• HP (hormigón pretensado) Prestressed concrete.

2º. R (resistencia) It´s the characteristic cube strenght at the age of 28 days in N/mm².

Normally we use this values 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 N/mm².

3º. C (consistencia).It identifies the consistence:

• S Seca. (dry)

• P Plástica. (plastic)

• B Blanda. (soft)

• F Fluida. (fluid)

4º. TM (tamaño máximo). It´s the maximum size of the soil in mm.

5º. A (ambiente) It´s the different kinds ofexposure:

-We have four kinds of main exposure clases:

I: No risk of corrosion or attack

II: Corrosion induced by carbonation.

III: Corrosion induced by chlorides from seawater

IV: Corrosion induced by chlorides other than from seawater

The structure will be made with steel, with laminated profile in columns and beams.

After calculate the loads in the roof considering the snow load as 100kg/m² , the floor

structure load 350 kg/m² and for have a flat roof we have to add a use load of

minimum 150kg/m² and checking the tables for beams IPE we have to take the beam

IPE 240. The dimensions of this kind of beam are described in the next image and

2.5 CARPENTRY

In this building we have a lot of doors, in different models. The exterior doors are a

combination of wood and glass and inside the doors are just with wood.

Interior door

We have a big wood door for the baby carriage with dimensions 135 x 240cm.

6 exterior doors with two sheets with dimensions 100 (each door) x 240 cm.

Three of these exterior doors are making a entrance hall and they are with another

door consecutive, because here in Sweden in almost all the public places I have seen

this, for instance the university, two doors before go inside for avoid the cold enter

and keep the heat inside.

12 interior doors with two sheets with dimensions between 155x 210 cm.

18 exterior doors with dimensions 82 x 240 cm.

34 interior doors with dimensions 82 x 210 cm.

4 interior doors with dimensions 114 x 210 cm.

1 door with fire resistance 120 with dimensions 155x210cm.

1 door for go out to the patio with dimensions 195 x 240 cm.

Hot and cold water:

All the network of hot and cold water distribution will be made with electrolytic copper

pipe with meetings welded, in dimensions and diameters according to plane of project,

installed, verified and measured according to regulation. The pressure of the

connection is 5 atm., the maximum height of supply is 2 meter and the flow of the

main connection of the house is 4,9 m³/s with this information we can calculate the

diameters of the pipes and we obtain:

Exterior pipe……………50mm

Installation room……..30mm

Common areas ………..20mm

Individual branch………12 mm

The production of hot water is produced by an instantaneous heater of sanitary hot

water situate in the installation room.

Plumbing fixtures:

The sanitary apparatuses will be of vitrified porcelain with white color.

Building use………………Educational use

Evacuation height……. h<4meters.

All the building obey that regulation, this building has a lot of doors to the exterior

because in the evacuation of the small children they need help of somebody so all the

rooms have evacuation doors. The main corridor is 2,5m. width keeping like this the

1,2 m. of the regulation.

In agreement with the regulation we´ll need fire extinguishers each at least 15 meters

with a minimum efficacy of 21A-113B.

Signs for the exit of the building, the fire extinguisher and we`ll need

Fire alarms for have a building between 1000 and 5000 m² and smoke and fire

automatic detectors.

Emergency illumination in the installation room, general evacuation route and in the

rooms planned for more than 100 persons.

An extractor fan in the kitchen.

For the characteristics of this building we don’t need to install automatic sprinkler, or

fire hydrant (>2000 m²).

Safety and Health study establishes, during the construction of the work, the forecasts

respect to prevention of risks and occupational accidents so that all the works that

compose this work develop surely, avoiding dangerous actions or situations by lack of

foresight, lack of information on the possible risks or means insufficiency, as well as

the sanitary services common to the workers.

It will be serve to give basic directives to the companies’ contractors to carry out his

obligations in prevention field of professional risks taking easy his development under

the control of the Coordinator in Security and Health during the execution of the work.

A Plan to Emergencies is described in addition that guarantees in addition that

guarantees performance standards at the time of facing situations of gravity which

they could take place to assure the attendance, evacuation and putting out of danger

of the personal that works, or is in the work at the moment of the emergency.

The works to make consist of the construction of a NURSERY in Södravägen with

Klyrevagatan in Halmstad (Sweden).

1- Previous works to the realization of the work

Before beginning the execution of a work, the first thing that it will be necessary to

consider is the order of realization of the preliminary works, keeping in mind the risks

that can involve. The characteristics of the building won´t only be known to build but

rather, in the visit to the land registrations will located wells, caskets and everything

that indicates the existence of underground conductions, will be requested to the

suppliers companies of service (water, gas, electricity) the different data where they

are signal the situation of the different facilities.

During the previous phase to the execution of the work will be defined the services

which can be affected and that they are necessary for the execution in different phases

of the same one, it will be also proven if the structures of the adjacent buildings can

suffer some damage during the execution of these previous works.

For the level of risk that they offer, the provisional installation of electricity can

damage at third, even it can cause serious accidents. The provisional installation of

water, besides being able to cause damages at third, will also become special attention

to the break of conductions of water that they can be the cause of detachments of the

land with possible repercussions in the foundations in the adjacent buildings.

Finally for the execution of these works the first consideration will be to check the

existence of air or underground conductions and to obtain the pertinent information

on the same ones, the second consideration, not less important than the previous one

it will be to know the data corresponding to the state of the buildings mediators. For

the storing of materials and machinery, it loads and it discharges, as well as the

auxiliary works will not be used the space of the lot occupied by the contructions that

will be carried out.

Barriers

Before the beginning of the work, it will be carried out the edge of the lot along all

their perimeter, maintaining a distance of security from the barriers until the border of

casting of lands similar to 2.00 m. This distance will stay so much in the perimeter of

the work like in the access areas to the same of the machinery and of the personal that

works in her. The hedge will be carried out with welded net, supported with metallic

feet fixed on bases of armed concrete, assuring its assurance and resistance.

These barriers will be built according to the plans and before start to work.

The characteristics of the barrier should be:

Page 39: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

Ana Latorre Health and safety

40

-The height of the barrier will be same or superior to two meters.

-An access will be enabled for vehicles of 4.5 m of width.

-An independent access will be enabled for personal with a width of leaf of 1m. It’s no

allowed the access of personal for the vehicle access.

Besides this protection hedge a signaling hedge exists, made so that it can be willing of

vertical form and to inform for half symbols and colours that is location should not be

passed over.

Signaling

It will be present at least the following signaling:

-Its obligatory use the safety helmet inside of the construction site.

- Forbidden to park in the area of entrance of vehicles.

-Forbidden the step of pedestrians for the entrance of vehicles.

-Obligatory to use the footwear of the security in the enclosure of the work.

-Forbidden the entrance to all people unaware to the work.

-Work poster

41

2. Provisional facilities of work

A.Service of hygiene

Based on the maximum number of workers who can be found in work, we will

determine the necessary surface and elements for these facilities. In our case the

greater presence of simultaneous personal is approximately 20 workers, determining

the following sanitary elements:

Showers……………………2

Toilets………………………2

Washbasin………………..2

That facilities supplemented by auxiliaries needed as towel, soap…

The changing rooms will be equipped with seats and individual lockers with key, to

store clothing and footwear.

Be available in hot and cold water showers and toilets.

Also, dining rooms equipped with tables and chairs is sufficient number will settle. In

case restaurants exists next to the lot or bars are understood that the work is

equipped for the dining room necessities.

There will be a container for garbage collection.

Perfect state of cleaning and conservation will stay in.

In the work office one will settle a medicine kit of first aid with the minimum content

indicated by the effective legislation, and a multipurpose dry dust extinguisher.

B. Electric installation

According to that said previously we will check the pertinent information to what

refers as regards electric facilities under floor or conduits for where cables of high

intensity circulate or it lowers. Once known this and having the information of the

supplier company will be marked the itinerary and depth of the underground

conduction with the maximum precision. The axis of the conduction will be traced,

being placed a poster that indicates the existent danger, being left an area of security,

to both sides of the excavation axis, of 1.5 meters. The underground conductions of

electricity, they will cover with sand, bricks, tape of plastic in red color and filler

material. With this information, it will be able to begin the works, hedges and

provisional facilities of work. The measures to take will be:

Page 41: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

Ana Latorre Health and safety

42

1. They will be make with excavating shovel until the depth that the company

authorizes. Starting from there the excavation will continue with manual tools not

pointed.

2. The equipments of individual protection that the workers will use are helmets,

gloves and dielectrics boots. The tools that use will be isolated.

Once we have covered the gutter and before a later mishap or modification is easy to

determine its location if they are followed this: the minimum free depths, of the

different types of service with relationship to the level of the sidewalk, measure in

meters, will be;

- Electricity of High tension 1.2m

- Electricity of Low tension 0.7m

- Lighting 0.40m

Therefore our line it will be of low tension (220-380 volts) so we will locate it of level

from the sidewalk to 0, 7 m. and the illumination 0, 40 m.

The distances among conductions according to the N.T.E. -I.E.R. it has more than

enough external net you line buried they will be:

- High tension, with line of low tension telephony, watter, gas, etc...

0.25m

- Low tension with telephony, watter, gas, etc.. 0.20m

- High tension with line A.T (to same tension) in the same gutter, 0.08m

- High tension with line of A.T with different tension 0.25m

- Low tension with line A.T 0.25m

According to N.T.E. -I.E.R and that predisposed by our project will use

that of Low tension therefore we will have to keep in mind that pointed out

previously concerning our line. Besides that described according to N.T.E. -

I.E.R. for buried lines of low tension the minimum depth will be of 0.7m

following the side walk line and with a minimum separation of 1m. We will also

keep in mind that for the illumination their spread will be able to be carried out

following the line of sidewalks with the medium ones from roadway separation

to a minimum depth of 0.4m and a separation of the line of curb of 0.75m.

Once open the gutter:

1. Placement of layer of colored sand.

2. Placement of the protection conduction that it has also a certain color.

3. Cover the conduction with colored sand and a plastic tape with an

annotation.

4. Placement of line of bricks.

When is finished this it will proceed to cover and compact the earth.

Besides the previous considerations the elevation machines will have

Page 42: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

43

anchorages or electric blocks or mechanics that prevent to surpass the

minimum distances of security, being signaled the areas that should not be

passed over, by means of barriers that impede all contact with the parts in

tension.

C. Water supply

This kind of underground canalizations of drinkable water, residual or of watering are

conductions with flow and variable pressure before a break or overflow, they present

flood risk, with nuisances and delays.

In our work, the installation of a provisional net of supply of drinkable water will be

executed to satisfy the necessities. Once it is hired the supply of the assault with the

supplier company, it will be settled the accountant, the general key and the exit to the

different distributions. The assault is located in Södra vägen.

It will settle a derivation for the work huts that it will reflect buried, protected and

signaled.

-electrocution for accumulation of takings of earth of the electric machinery

-placing the reinforced steel: fires for the high temperatures in the welding

point and the projection of sparks and incandescent particles.

3. In the waterproof sheet of the cover:

-fires and explosions.

4. In the endings:

-in general in all the operations where electric machinery is used there are

electrocution risk and fires, as well as whenever the welding is used

-in the paintings and varnishes: explosions or fires for inflammation of the

mixture of air / vapors of the solvents.

5. In the permanent facilities:

-in general in all the operations where electric machinery is used there are

electrocution risks and fires, as well as whenever the welding is used

-before the presence of gas the risk of explosions increases.

4. Stages of work´s execution

A. Movements of Lands

Description and organization of the Works:

The topography of the land is sensibly horizontal without appreciable

differences. The excavation will be carried out to open sky, to 350 mm deep,

with mechanical facilities (front loader shovel to go down to the required bench

mark, later on retro shovel for the elimination of the ramp).

The earth movements to carry out are:

- The cleaning of the layer of vegetable earth or clear.

- The excavation of the land until arriving to the bench mark required for

the support of the foundation flagstone.

- The excavation of the perimeter executing a gutter to 550 mm deep,

bench mark required for the support of the half-boot run low load walls.

Most common risks:

In the clear:

- Accidents, blows and collisions with machines and vehicles

- Overturns and false maneuvers of the machinery for movement of lands

(excavating machines and trucks)

- Noise and vibrations

- Over efforts

- Others

In the realization of the excavation:

- Fallen to the same one and the different level of people or machinery

- Landslide of the land, buries (for filtrations, vibrations, it overloads, etc.)

- Accidents, blows and collisions with machines and vehicles

- Overturns and false maneuvers of the machinery for movement of lands

(excavating machines and trucks)

- Fall of objects, vehicles, machinery from a superior level

- Floods

- Noise and vibrations

- Over efforts

- Others

48

Preventive norms

In the clear:

- Before the beginning of the works, one will keep in mind the possible

interference with affected services. If it is air electric lines, their discharge will be

requested and it will be signaled with orange net, in a longitudinal way and at a

distance of 5 meters (horizontal plane) regarding the affected line.

- It will be limited the interference with third placing foot barriers in passing in areas of

pedestrians, making you use of the signaling if it is affected to circulation roads, using

you signs as: "Warning gutters”.

- The minimum distances of separation will be delimited among operatives in function

of the tools that use.

- The operatives who don't manage the machinery will remain outside of the radius of

action of the same one, paying special attention when they develop their work near

the machines.

- The works will be suspended under the regimen of rains

In the excavation of gutters and wells

- When the vehicles circulate in normal direction to the cut, the enclosed area will

enlarge that direction in two times the depth of the cut and not less than 4 meters

when it is necessary to place signaling of reduction of speed.

- When the extracted lands are polluted they will be disinfected as well as the walls of

the corresponding excavations.

- Anybody won't work simultaneously in vertical different levels of the same one. In

the event of having to work under these conditions, the operative of the inferior level

will remain with the helmet of security during his work.

- They will be revised the contentions before beginning the work day, tightening the

elbow pieces when they have loosened

- They will be proven that they are expedite the beds of superficial waters.

- These preventions will be carried to an extreme after work interruptions of more

than 1 day and/or atmospheric alterations as rains or icy

- In the event of presence of water (strong rains, breaks of pipes, floods,

Etc.) it will proceed immediately to its reduces, in prevention of alterations of the

land.

- The extracted lands will be gathered at a distance of the border of the excavation, as

minimum, similar to the depth of the gutter. In contented gutters this distance will be

same or bigger to 1 m

- The contention elements won't be used to ascend or to lower the gutter.

- The contentions or part of these will take off when they stop to be necessary only

and for horizontal fringes beginning with the inferior part of the cut.

Page 48: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

49

- Any step that is necessary to make on the gutters, will be made with gangplanks

protected in its perimeter with handrails of 0.90 m, intermediate bar and baseboard.

- It will prepare in the work, to provide in each case the indispensable team to the

operative, of a provision of levers, wedges, bars, props and planks that won't be used

for the contention and they will be reserved for their use by the salvage team, as well

as of other means that can be good for eventualities or the operatives' aid that could

have an accident.

- In the works in gutters will have a signalist in the hoisted of loads when the

maneuvers are difficult or the field of vision is limited. The operatives won't remain

under the loads. It will be verified the state of the elements daily of hoisted elements.

- It will be placed some endings which prevent that the vehicles approach on the edge

of the gutters.

- To humidify the front of attack of the excavation to eliminate the powder that takes

place as much as possible.

- When the level of noise taken place by the used machinery will be equal or bigger

than 80 decibels the operatives has to use auditory plugs.

Personal protection

In the clear and in the excavation of gutters and wells:

- Polyethylene helmet (workers will use it, machinists and truck drivers that want or

they should abandon the booths of conduction of the vehicles will use it too).

- Security footwear

- Security rubber boots (or PVC)

- Leather gloves and canvas against mechanical risks

- Work clothes

- Raincoats for humid or rainy atmospheres

- Auditory protection in works with pneumatic machinery

- Glasses against projections

- Mask of filter mechanic (against powder)

- Lumbar bands

B.Works with reinforced steel

Description and organization of the works The steel will be given ready for its placement in work.

The groups of diameters should be hugged with cables.

Detection of the most frequent risks

- Squashing during the load operations and discharge of diameters packages

- Fallen in the placement and bundle of reinforced steel

- Fallen at the same level in the displacements on the reinforced steel

- Trips and twists when walking on the reinforced steel

- Footfalls on sharp objects

- Those derived of the eventual breaks of the steel diameters during the operations of

benting or stretched

- Overefforts

- Others

Basic norms of security

In the reception and manipulation:

- To have a crane of enough capacity and appropriate slings to the discharge to make

- To pay special attention to the elevation operations and transport of the diameters

packages. When the operator of the crane doesn't have enough visibility there will be

somebody that indicates him/her the maneuvers to make

- For the elevation and transport of the packages, they will never be suspended of the

ropes, they will be surrounded with the sling of two points forming an angle of 90º

- During the transport of the packages, nobody will remain under loads

- The storing of the diameters won't affect in passing to the areas

Placement and assembly of the reinforced steel:

- The diameters will be transported suspended of the hook of the crane for their

placement, with slings or stirrups, of two distant points to avoid deformations or

dangerous displacements

- The mounted reinforced steel will never move in a vertical way in their transport,

only for the exact location in situ"

- The location maneuvers in situ of mounted reinforced steel won't be guided

manually, it will be do with ropes in two addresses. Once placed in position, the one

plumbed will be carried out in a manual way

Personal protection

- Security helmet

lifting appliances;

c.safety harnesses and lifelines, catch nets or catch platforms;

d .power-operated mobile working platforms.

-Steel and prefabricated structures should be so designed and made that they can be

safely transported and erected, and if required by national laws and regulations each

unit should be clearly marked with its own weight.

-In addition to the need for the stability of the part when erected, when necessary to

prevent danger the design should explicitly take into account:

a.the conditions and methods of attachment in the operations of transport, storing

and temporary support during erection or dismantling as applicable;

b.methods for the provision of safeguards such as railings and working platforms, and,

when necessary, for mounting them easily on the structural steel or prefabricated

parts.

-The hooks and other devices built in or provided on the structural steel or

prefabricated parts that are required for lifting and transporting them should be so

shaped, dimensioned and positioned as:

a.to withstand with a sufficient margin the stresses to which they are subjected;

b.not to set up stresses in the part that could cause failures, or stresses in the structure

itself not provided for in the plans, and be designed to permit easy release from the

lifting appliance. Lifting points for floor and staircase units should be located (recessed

if necessary) so that they do not protrude above the surface;

c. to avoid imbalance or distortion of the lifted load.

-Storeplaces should be so constructed that:

a.there is no risk of structural steel or prefabricated parts falling or overturning;

b.storage conditions generally ensure stability and avoid damage having regard to the

method of storage and atmospheric conditions;

c.racks are set on firm ground and designed so that units cannot move accidentally.

-While they are being stored, transported, raised or set down, structural steel or

prefabricated parts should not be subjected to stresses prejudicial to their stability.

-Every lifting appliance should:

a.be suitable for the operations and not be capable of accidental disconnection;

b.be approved by a competent person, or tested under a proof load 20 per cent

heavier than the heaviest prefabricated part.

-Lifting hooks should be of the self-closing type or of a safety type and should have the

maximum permissible load marked on them.

steel or prefabricated parts should be provided with safety devices such as railings and

working platforms to prevent falls of persons.

-While structural steel or prefabricated parts are being erected the workers should be

provided with and use appliances for guiding them as they are being lifted and set

down, so as to avoid crushing of hands and to facilitate the operations.

-Before it is released from the lifting appliance a raised structural steel or prefabricated

part should be so secured and wall units so propped that their stability cannot be

imperilled, even by external agencies such as wind and passing loads, in accordance

with national laws and regulations.

-At workplaces adequate instruction should be given to the workers on the methods,

arrangements and means required for the storage, transport, lifting and erection of

structural steel or prefabricated parts, and before erection starts a meeting of all those

responsible should be held to discuss and confirm the requirements for safe erection.

-During transport, attachments such as slings and stirrups mounted on structural steel

or prefabricated parts should be securely fastened to the parts.

-Structural steel or prefabricated parts should be so transported that the conditions do

not affect the stability of the parts or the means of transport result in jolting, vibration

or stresses due to blows, or loads of material or persons.

-When the method of erection does not permit the provision of other means of

protection against falls of persons, the workplaces should be protected by guard-rails,

and if appropriate by toe-boards.

-When adverse weather conditions such as snow, ice and wind or reduced visibility

entail risks of accidents the work should be carried on with particular care, or, if

necessary, interrupted.

-Structures should not be worked on during violent storms or high winds, or when they

are covered with ice or snow, or are slippery from other causes.

-If necessary to prevent danger, structural steel parts should be equipped with

attachments for suspended scaffolds, lifelines or safety harnesses and other means of

protection.

-The risks of falling, to which workers moving on high or sloping girders are exposed,

should be limited by all means of adequate collective protection or, where this is

impossible, by the use of a safety harness that is well secured to a sufficiently strong

support.

-Structural steel parts that are to be erected at a great height should as far as

practicable be assembled on the ground.

-When structural steel or prefabricated parts are being erected, a sufficiently extended

area underneath the workplace should be barricaded or guarded.

-Steel trusses that are being erected should be adequately shored, braced or guyed

until they are permanently secured in position.

-No load-bearing structural member should be dangerously weakened by cutting,

holing or other means.

-Structural members should not be forced into place by the hoisting machine while any

worker is in such a position that he could be injured by the operation.

Doors with door closers should be fitted with automatic door openers. Other doors can

sometimes also be too heavy for many people to open and should therefore be fitted

with automatic door openers. When designing doors with automatic door openers it is

important that the various component functions are located correctly (see above), that

operating buttons are contrast-marked, that areas where the door opens are marked

or, alternatively, that the door is fitted with safety sensors, and that account is taken

of similar considerations.

Ramps and elevator:

We don’t have stairs at the entrance and inside either so we don’t need elevator but in

the entrance for avoid the stair and for help we will make a ramp of 100 cm minimum

width and we will put two handrails one in the stair side at 90 cm for non disabled

people or people using cane and another in the ramp side at 75 cm for people with

wheelchairs.

Steps and walking areas:

Walking areas shall be designed so that people with limited mobility or orientation

capacity can move about on them and so that people in wheelchairs can also move

around without assistance.

Walking areas shall be level, firm and non-slip. There shall be special guide paths on

open surfaces.

Page 119: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

123

They have to be free from obstacles. Must have a minimum width of 180 cm, with a

banister located 90 cm from the floor, tactile strips of 20 cm on both sides of the

walking corridor floor.

Contrast and markings:

Important destinations, walking areas, stairs and ramps shall be easy to identify.

Stairs shall be supplied with contrast markings so that partially sighted people and

people with other orientation difficulties are able to discern the level difference.

Contrast in relation to the surroundings can, for instance, be achieved by inserting

material with a different structure and lightness in the ground surfacing, such as

clearly perceptible paving stones in asphalt surfaces.

Guide paths should provide both visual and tactile contrast in relation to their

surroundings.

Grass edges, walls, fences, edges and facades are natural boundaries that can

facilitate orientation for partially sighted people and people with other orientation

difficulties.

Walking areas with contrast marking should be designed so they do not result in a

risk of stumbling. A lightness contrast of at least of at least 0.40 according to the NCS

(Natural Color System) between the contrast marking and the surrounding ground

surfacing can greatly assist partially sighted people and people with other

orientation difficulties in discerning the marking.

Logical color systems facilitate orientation for people with intellectual disabilities or

other orientation difficulties. The markings should be made in a consistent way

throughout the area.

Bathrooms:

When a toilet is provided for the general public, at least one toilet shall be usable

by people with wheelchairs for restricted outdoor use.

Floors should be non-skid. At the urinals, toilets and showers, there should be support

bars and accessories for crutches and canes place.

Spaces reserved for persons with disabilities should be located where there are walls,

do not cancel the order setting the support bars.

Seats should be placed in thick W.C. there to match the height of a wheelchair; the

height is 52 cm above the floor level.

A toilet intended for people with wheelchairs for restricted outdoor use should be at

least 2.2 x 2.2 meters in size and have a free door passage dimension of at least 0.90

meters. There should be a turning zone directly alongside the toilet door.

-Washbasin:

There must be at least one barrier-free toilet in the low part, and with a height of 75

cm. To allow the approach to people in wheelchairs.

The faucets must be easy to open with the elbow or forearm, and its location should

be viewed from the front: hot water left and right for cold water.

Must have strong determination and support to bear the weight of people, if they have

Page 120: NURSERY BUILDING HALMSTAD,SWEDEN - DiVA portal240154/FULLTEXT01.pdf · Ana Latorre Nursery building ININDESXLKÑDSCOÇDÈX I- INTRODUCTION…………………………………

124

to rely on them.

The conditions of hot water must be protected, as the paraplegic has little feeling in his

legs and can cause burns.

The separation of the faucets should be 20 cm minimum.

You must install at least one mirror with a tilt of the top 10% in the sink and with a

dimension of 72 cm.

Switches:

Are required to have a kind of light signaling. Electrical contacts have to be polarized,

with live, neutral and earth physics.

The switches in general should not be placed within 50 cm from one corner; otherwise

their power will hinder a person in a wheelchair.

Signaling:

The necessary information signs shall be displayed to make it easier for people with

limited mobility and orientation capacity to use the space or the area. It must be

possible for people with impaired orientation capacity to discern and understand such

information signs.

Signs, symbols, maps or signage must be presented in different ways, like in high relief,

written in Braille, with sounds… Signs should be easy to understand and to read, have

tone contrast and be placed at an appropriate height to be read/heard both by people

in wheelchairs and by people with impaired vision who are standing. They should be

placed where they are expected and so that people can get right up to them. The text

size should be designed on the basis of the reading distance and the surface should not

cause reflection.

Tactile information that identifies each location must be located outside it, and its

location should always be constant.

In places where the signs and maps are protected by a glass, this should not be

reflective.

Directors- General signs:

The directory which is in the main entrances of the units must have letters and

graphics in high relief of contrasting color in the background.

Must be located with a metal plate engraved in Braille on the right side of the module

at a height with its center axis to 130 cm.

Emergency exits:

The accessible routes to emergency exits must be well indicated by the tactile,

auditory and bright warning systems.

The doors leading to risk areas should be locked, and open outward.

Signals emitting emergency doors in times of trouble should be standardized.
