In Jewish communities across the world, the shul is the central force that knits families together into one tapestry. The Young Israel of Teaneck binds us together as well, as our place to daven, as our community center and as the heartbeat of our neighborhood. It is a place where every member is valued and important.

As our community has grown at an exponential pace, so have our needs. We have outgrown our facility and at this critical juncture, it is incumbent upon us to be forward looking. We want to acknowledge and continue on with the successes of the past, but we ask you to partner with us to build for the future.

Our goal is to further advance the future of our community, by proudly launching a $3.75 MILLION expansion campaign. It is a tremendous undertaking and we need 100% participation to make this a reality. We suggest a minimum $5,000 donation from each family to make this come to fruition and build our new home, but are relying on you to give as generously as you can.

Details of the design plan, including each floor plan, are found in the following pages, as are giving opportunities.

Lord Rabbi Jonathan Sacks says “Hashem lives in builders not buildings.” The structure of Hashem’s building is important, but we are the ones who truly house Him.” Bring Hashem into your hearts and fulfill this mitzvah with pride and joy. Join us. Createa legacy. Be a builder.

Friends,

The Young Israel of Teaneck was founded more than 25 years ago with tremendous pride and dedication by a group of families who gave of their time and resources to create a new shul in the Country Club section of Teaneck. Our shul began in members’ basements and living rooms, eventually bringing us to 868 Perry Lane, the building in which we find ourselves today.

More than two decades later, our shul is bustling. Through our dynamic learning programs, there are more adults and children involved in consistent Torah learning than ever in the history of our shul. Our Youth department continues to thrive and grow. We have more volunteers than ever before, and our Sisterhood and Men’s Club continue to foster a sense of unity and camaraderie.

It is no wonder that as we continue to grow together as a community, we are continuing, bli ayin hara, to grow in number as well. We are experiencing the bracha of being a very special place to raise a Jewish family, and I firmly believe we are now ready for the next stage in the history of the Young Israel of Teaneck. And just as the founding and early years of our shul were made possible by the extraordinary efforts of each and every member then, the next stage in our journey will only be made possible by the extraordinary efforts of each and every family in our community today.

As we embark on this new stage, preparing to build a new and improved physical space, I am reminded of the message that Hashem offered Bnei Yisrael as they began the task of building the Mishkan.

He began His instructions by telling Moshe, “V’asu li mikdash v’shachanti b’tocham”. “They will build for me a Tabernacle and I will reside in them”. Rather than concluding as one would have expected, “v’shachanti b’tocho” “and I will dwell in it,” Hashem tells Moshe that when the people create a place which is designated for coming close to Him, a beautiful, makom kadosh, a holy space where they can be inspired to serve Him, Hashem will ensure that the place itself will not be His only home. Rather, “v’shachanti b’tocham.” Once the People have shown through their dedication and commitment that they are ready to make a place for Hashem in their community, G-d will commit, in return, to dwell within the hearts of each and every one of them. In the beautiful words of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks: “G-d does not live in buildings. He lives in builders. He lives not in structures of stone but in the human heart.”

I invite each and every one of you to join us as we endeavor to bring G-d into the hearts and minds of each and every individual within our community: Ourselves, our children, our grandchildren, and all the future generations of our shul. Join us as we become the next builders of the Young Israel of Teaneck.

Sincerely,Rabbi Binyamin Krohn

The Young Israel of Teaneck will welcome the community into a lobby enveloped in light and a coat room triple the size of our current space. Upon entry, there will be beautiful unobstructed views down a magnificent atrium, the glass galleria serving as a bridge connecting the spiritual and physical. Towards the left, are new sets of double doors leading into an expanded sanctuary. The sanctuary will be the center of our spiritual growth and include additional seating, improved acoustics and sightlines from the women’s section, and a newly designed mechitzah. Towards the right, are multiple entryways into an airy and spacious 2,500 square foot social hall with double story ceilings, large enough to accommodate many joyous functions in our community. A prep kitchen will run adjacent to the social hall to allow for professionally catered affairs. Central to the entrance of the building, a choice of elevator or stairs will lead you down to the lower level.

PROPOSEDLOWER LEVELFLOORPLAN

The lower level of the building houses two important features. Standing in the center, will be a beautiful 1,730 square foot Beit Midrash that more than doubles the size of our current one. This space will further enhance Torah study within our Shul and allow for multiple minyanim throughout the year. Outside the Beit Midrash, will be a communal space and coat area. There will also be a galley kitchen to fulfill any of the needs for the lower level or youth activities. The second element is a youth wing comprised of eight large group rooms for our children and Mommy & Me. Some rooms have removable wall dividers allowing for multi-use space. The lower level also houses the Rabbi’s study as well as office space.
