Design & Optimization of an Existing Duct to Minimize Pressure Drop Through Flow Analysis

Objective: The main objective of this project was to redesign an existing duct outlet to reduce the pressure drop.

Result: Modified design 2 had the less pressure drop. Bend geometry in the existing duct was responsible for the pressure increase due to recirculation of flow.

FLUE STRUCTURAL AND THERMAL MODELING OF AN ANODE BAKING FURNACE

Autodesk Inventor and Ansys

Summery: Develop a valid 3D model of an anode baking furnace of Alcoa Warrick plant in Autodesk Inventor. Finite Element Analysis of baking furnace in ANSYS. Mapping thermal model results developed by another graduate student to structural model for stress, strain and deformation analysis. Conduct a parametric study to evaluate different size brick wall designs to provide optimum wall configurations.
