    Service Procedures

    3969-03-02-03Control Panel, Inverter, Replacement

    You must read and understand the precautions and guide-

    lines in Service Information, Function Group 30, "GeneralSafety Practices, Electrical" before performing this proce-

    dure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this

    procedure, ask your supervisor for training before you per-

    form it.

    DANGER

    Do not attempt to repair or service this vehicle without suf-

    ficient training, the correct service literature and the proper

    tools. Failure to follow this could make the vehicle unsafe

    and lead to serious personal injury or death.

    Removal1

    Park the vehicle on a flat level surface. Place the shift lever in

    neutral (manual transmission) or park (automatic transmis-

    sion). Apply the parking brake. Turn the ignition key to the

    OFF position. Chock the front wheels.

    Remove the side faring and store it in a secure location.

    3

    If equipped with a main battery disconnect switch, turn the

    switch to the OFF position.

    4

    Disconnect all cables from the negative battery terminals to

    prevent personal injury from electrical shock and preventdamage to electrical components.

    Note: Pay attention to which cables are stacked on top of

    each other, with smaller cables typically stacked on top of

    larger cables.

    Remove the fasteners attaching the inverter control panel t

    the mounting bracket and store fasteners in a secure

    location.

    Remove the inverter control panel and disconnect the inve

    ter control cable.

    Note: For both VNL and VNM cabs the inverter control pan

    will be attached to a mounting bracket either on the cab up-

    holstery (VNL 630, 670, VNM 630) or cab panel (VNL 730,

    780).

    Connect the inverter control cable to the replacement control

    panel.

    Attach the inverter control panel to the mounting bracket, us-

    ing the previously removed fasteners. Gently hand tightenthe fasteners to avoid stripping the threads.

    Note: For both VNL and VNM cabs the inverter control panel

    will be attached to a mounting bracket either on the cab up-

    holstery (VNL 630, 670, VNM 630) or cab panel (VNL 730,

    780).

    Before reconnecting existing battery cables, check for corro-

    sion or dirt build-up on the terminals, and clean them. Reap-

    ply protectant as needed.

    Reconnect all previously removed cables to the negative bat-

    tery terminals, observing the proper stacking sequence.

    4

    If equipped with a main battery disconnect switch, turn the

    switch to the ON position.

    System Check:

    Connect a 3prong extension cord to the CAB POWER

    shore power receptacle:

    1 Verify that 120V is getting to the inverter. The displaysLED will be green. If the LED is flashing green this mean

    that the batteries are charging.2 Verify that 120V is getting to the outlets in the bunk, by

    plugging in any of the customers 120V devices, or a 12drop light. If the outlets are not functioning, check thefollowing.

    1 The circuit breaker on the side of the inverter has beetripped. Press to reset.

    2 That the ON/OFF switch in the Load Center on thebulkhead is turned to the ON position.

    3 The displays LED will be red if there is fault condition, athe inverter has shut itself down, or it will not turn on.

    Note: If error codes are shown on the display, for exampleE01 refer to the Xantrex owners manual for explanation

    and troubleshooting.

    4 Remove the 120V extension cord.

    5 Verify that the inverter is working properly (converting btery power into AC power): Turn the inverter to the ON psition and check to see that inverter display shows battevoltage. The displays LED will turn to yellow.

    6 Check to see that the electrical appliances are functioniproperly.

    Note: For explanations and troubleshooting fault conditions

    refer to the Xantrex owners manual.

    If the truck is not going to be used immediately and is

    equipped with a main battery disconnect switch, turn the

    switch to the OFF position.

    Install the side faring.

    Remove the chocks from the front wheels.
