HISTORY AND ACCREDIDATION Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School was established in 1995 (and a junior high was added in 2003). It is an affiliated school of Ritsumeikan University and the Ritsumeikan Academy governed by The Ritsumeikan Trust. The school is an Article 1 school accredited by the Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education in compliance with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In 2009, Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School became authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School to offer the IB Diploma Programme, and has since graduated eight cohorts of IB Diploma students. 3 YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC YEAR APRIL ~ MARCH 38 WEEKS OVER 3 TERMS 30 ~ 35 PERIODS PER WEEK 50 MINUTE PERIODS THREE HIGH SCHOOL COURSE OPTIONS (followed by number of students in each program) THE IB COURSE The IB Course at Ritsumeikan Uji is selective and is the most academically rigorous course offered. The program celebrated its 10 th anniversary in 2018. The IB Course spans the three high school years, and consists of classes taught entirely in English by native Englishspeaking teachers. In the second and third years, students follow the curricular requirements of the IBDP. The first year is a prepatory period focused on the skills necessary for success in the IBDP, as well as fulfilling Japanese high school requirements. Predicted IB results are available in October, and students sit IBDP exams in November of their senior year. The vast majority, 99%, of students are full diploma candidates. IB STUDENTS Ritsumeikan Uji’s IB cohort sizes vary, averaging 24 students per cohort over the last five years, with a student to teacher ratio of approximately 4 to 1. The vast majority of students have Japanese ethnicity; other students are from a range of countries including: China, Indonesia, Korea, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, America, Canada, and Australia. IB students are highly active with CAS, MUN, and internships and pursue a vibrant set of extracurriculars. GRADING High  School  grades  are  out  of  100.  GPA  is scored on a  five point unweighted  scale, with five  being  the  highest.  IB  students  are  first assessed on the IB seven point scale, and marks are then converted to the five point scale.

PREDICTED GRADES IB predicted grades are issued in October of the senior  year.  Students  have  completed  all coursework and a full set of mock examinations prior  to  predicted  grades  being  issued.  The University  of  Queensland  has  verified  the accuracy of  five years of our predicted grades from 2013 ~ 2017.
