With a veteran cast whichjust barely missed the cut lastseason, a vital factor this year

will be the experience they gar-nered.

    5. JRU Heavy BombersThis years hosts are ready to

make a splash, with JayceeAsuncion, Philip Paniamogan,Jordan dela Paz, and BernabeTeodoro providing the fireworksfrom rainbow country to givethe Heavy Bombers the bang.

Aside from its gunners, coachVergel Meneses will rely onMichael Mabulac and Abdulrazak

Abdulwahab in the JRU frontline.Acting as this seasons hosts,

they would be satisfied to makea return trip to the big dancethis year after failing to makethe Final Four for the past two

    seasons.

It has also separated itselffrom the rest of the league if

were just going to look on tal-ent on paper.

But that doesnt mean thatthe Red Lions will just coast tothe finish line.

NCAA Season 90, aptlythemed Todays Heroes, To-morrows Legends, which is setto kick off this June 28, will

feature all nine teams trying toend San Bedas streak. And when the opening

buzzer sounds, for sure, all hellwill break loose.

The question now comes:Can San Beda go for five, orsome schools hero of todayetch his name in the historybooks and be a legend - the oneended the Red Lions dynasty?

This is our NCAA Season 90preview.1. San Beda Red Lions

Carrying an almost intactlineup from last season, thefive-peat-seeking Red Lions arestill the team to beat this year.

Baser Amer, Ola Adeogun, and Art dela Cruz are still thetop dogs for San Beda, together

with a potent supporting castled by Anthony Semerad andKyle Pascual.

The pressure is on San Bedato win the title for an unprece-dented fifth straight time, and

anything less than a Finals ap-

pearance can already be consid-ered as a disappointment forthe Bedan community.

    2. Perpetual AltasIn a field where San Beda

has separated itself from thepack, Perpetual poses thebiggest threat to the Red Lionsthrone.

Coach Aric del Rosario willrely on the performance of his

core four - Juneric Baloria, EarlScottie Thompson, Harold Ar-boleda, and Justine Alano - tolead the fight for the Altas.

The problem comes after, asthe production dips once thestarters rest on the bench.Gabriel Dagangon and KevinOliveria has shown flashes inthe preseason, but it begs to askhow far can the Aric Magictake the Altas this season.

    3. Letran KnightsTwo successive runner-up

finishes have really placed Le-tran on a precarious position asthe Knights are aching to over-throw their bitter rivals.

With MVP Raymond Al-mazan gone from their roster, bulk of the responsibility nowfalls on the shoulders of MarkCruz, Kevin Racal, Rey Nambat-ac, and Jamil Gabawan.

Though undersized, Cruz hasproven to be one of the toppoint guards in the league over

    the past few years.

But the Heavy Bombers fatewould largely depend on the snip-ing of their shooters led by Pani-amogan and Asuncion, and if

those long balls connect, expect afew big dogs to fall this season.

    6. Lyceum PiratesGrind-out basketball. Thats

what coach Bonnie Tan haspromised as Lyceum dares tocrack its first Final Four appear-ance in Season 90.

Dexter Zamora, Shane Ko, AzizMbomiko, and transferee RhoelMaconocido are the ones mandat-ed to lead the scoring for the Pi-rates, as Guy Mbida and under-

sized center Joseph Gabayni takecare of the paint job.A cause for concern in

Lyceum is in keeping their tem-pers in check, as Tan employeda tough-as-nails approach to thesquads defense, driving theiropposition crazy with theirphysical play.

    7. San SebastianGolden Stags

Its another under-the-radaryear for coach Topex Robinsonsno-namers as the Stags failedto make some noise in the pre-season. But thats that, and thereal battle begins when theNCAA season starts.

Jamil Ortuoste will comeback to the squad after nursinga back injury in the summer, and will provide stability to asquad which now bears an ex-perience from the past season.

Though gunner Leo de Vera isalready out of the picture, CJPerez, Bradwyn Guinto, and Jovit

dela Cruz are still in the fold, and

a number of rookies likeRhanzelle Yong, Michael Calisaan, and Ryan Costelo have also im-pressed during the summer.

    8. St. Benilde BlazersLast years heartbreak kids,

the Blazers want to erase thattag and bank on their maturityto get the close games this time.

Coming into this season withan almost intact lineup, thismaturity will be the key for theboys of coach Gabby Velasco, as

he tasks guys like MarkRomero, Paolo Taha, RalphNayve, and JR Ongteco to takecare of the scoring cudgels forthe Taft ballers, as JonathanGrey and Robert Bartolo wage

wars against other squads bigs. With last years miscues al-

ready charged to experience, St.Benilde hopes to erase the bittermemories of the past and make areturn trip ti the Final Four.

    9. Arellano Chiefs

Skipping the summer tour-neys, Arellano is poised to sur-prise the league with a numberof key holdovers and returneesleading the pack for them.

For one, Nard John Pintowill once again man the pointfor the Chiefs, now handled bycoach Jerry Codiera.

Prince Caperal, Keith Agovi-da, and Zach Nicholls are still

with the squad, but the biggestmystery, for the preseason at

least, is Codieras heralded Fil-Am recruits in Dioncee Holtsand David Ortega.

    10. Mapua CardinalsIt looks like it will once

again be a forgettable seasonfor the Cardinals, as thepromise they carried in the pre-season faded away by the mo-ment Josan Nimes incurred aleg injury which will once againsideline him for Season 90.

With their go-to-guy gone,Joseph Eriobu, Andrew Estrella, and Jessie Saitanan will beforced into the spotlight to car-ry the load for coach Atoy Co,as holdovers like Jeson Cantosand Exequil Biteng will be morethan welcome to provide signifi-cant contributions for Mapua.

Hope is still not lost for theCardinals. Though many believethat they will be at the cellar, teams better not underestimatethese guys because the FortuneCookie has a slew of big men in

    his disposal.
