    The music world to convene in Tallinn

    Speakers and participants from Asia, Africa, Oceania, Europe, the Arab world and the American continentwill meet to discuss the correlation between music and social change.

    Paris/Bonn/Tallinn April 15, 2011. The International Music Council, the European Music Council andthe Estonian Music Council are pleased to announce the 4th IMC World Forum on Musicto take place inTallinn, September 26 October 1, 2011, under the title Music and Social Change. The event will bestaged in close collaboration with the Estonian Academy o Music and Theatre.

    Tallinn will play host to the IMC World Forum on Musicduring the year in which the city celebrates the titleo European Culture Capital 2011. Tallinns buzzing cultural lie will treat orum participants to an excitingartistic and social program.

    The IMC World Forum on Musicis a global knowledge-building platorm on music and society in the 21stcentury. During the orum a variety o topics will be explored rom diverse perspectives: cultural, politicaland economical. The IMC World Forum on Musicis considered one o IMCs main contributions to settingthe stage or the ree celebration o music in the world.

    The 2011 IMC World Forum on Musicwill ocus on fve areas which are o crucial importance to the worldo music: Music as a tool or social change Current challenges and opportunities or music education Music distribution and export Music and development Youth: inormal spaces

    By seeking synergies across dierent sectors, this high-level orum will provide exceptional opportunitiesor all participants rom dierent felds to engage in serious debates on current key issues. The worksessions during the Forum will be presented in a variety o ormats: panel sessions with invited speakers,workshops, round table discussions and project presentations.

    The International Music Council (IMC) is the world peak organisation dedicated to promoting musicaldiversity and musical rights. The European Music Council is a regional group o the IMC and serves itsmembers by advocating or the societal and political signifcance o musical diversity in Europe. The

    Estoian Music Council is a member o the IMC/EMC; its mission is to advocate and appraise Estonianmusic in all its orms o expression.

    In the ramework o the Forum, IMC members will also gather or the 34th General Assembly. Likewise,the EMC will also hold its Annual Meeting o members in Tallinn.
