Piped water has returned to KwaDukuza, however there are many areas still awaiting normality of the basic service rendered by the Ilembe District Municipality (Ilembe).

The Maphumulo Regional Court sentenced a 44-year-old Maphumulo woman to 15 years imprisonment for rape on Tuesday, 24 November 2015.

According to KZN SAPS Lia ison Off icer , Major Thulani Zwane, the rape occurred in December, 2014.

“A 13-year-old boy was at home with his mother when his aunt came and asked for

permission for the victim to escort her to h e r h o u s e because it was late. The victim did not come back home and o n t h e following day he came home crying, saying that his aunt raped him.

T h e K w a D u k u z a Municipality (KDM) in its full council meeting last Thursday were directed to irregular expenditure by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Shamir Rajcoomar to laughter.

Council was presented w i t h a f i n a n c i a l b r e a k d o w n o n t h e unwanted expenditure from the month of July 2015 to and including September 2015.

Three months have produced R 7.1 million of irregular expenditure that the CFO will have headaches about.

The issue of securing a grass cutting tender candidate came up and the KDM Municipal Manager promised to solve this by February 2016.

Hotel accommodation, grass cutting and Car r e n t a l s h o w e d u p regularly and proved exorbitant to KDM. A consultant was paid R 2 3 9 3 7 6 . 7 5 o n Wednesday, 12 August 2015.

Shoba Maharaj on charges of armed robbery,attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms. It is alleged by Hassan Azziz Ali, a Somalian businessman in Melville; that a group held him and customers up at gunpoint. His brother was shot and injured during the incident. The gang fled with cash, airtime, cellphones and an airtime machine. A week later, police received information and arrested four youths, recovered the airtime machine, a cellphone, two revolvers and a 303 rifle. Njabulo Masinga (23), Ntokokozo Mathenjwa (30), Michael Mbokazi (22) and Sifiso Ngobose (32) have been remanded in custody pending a bail investigation.

6. The Municipal council approves the disposal of the land at a market related value not less than eight million rand strictly in accordance

with the legislation and Council's Land Disposal Policy'

Established by the United Nations (UN) on 20 November 1954, UniversalChildren's Day aims to promote the welfare of children everywhere and to encourage understanding between children all over the world. It is also the day when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

More than celebrating children, it brings awareness to children around the globe that have succumbed to violence in forms of a b u s e , e x p l o i t a t i o n a n ddiscrimination.

Children are used as labourers in some countries, immersed in armed conflict and living on the streets. Many schools and other educational institutions make a special effort to inform children of their rights according to the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

On this day, we are reminded thatchildren have the right to be educated and protected.

Arora led Dawnheights Cricket Club to an astonishing 82 runs victory against Hillary/Malvern in the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Challenge league (stream 2) game played at the Malvern grounds this past Sunday. He was well supported by wicket keeper, A d e s h B a g e l o o w h o accumulated 50.

Dawnheights got off to an amazing start scoring 64 for the first wicket with Francois Mostert being bowled LBW for 21. Mathew Dean joined Arora and this pair took the score to 141 before Dean was caught for 22 o f f t h e b o w l i n g o f A . B a u e r s c h m i t . B y r o n Athymoolam did not last long as he was caught for a paltry 4 runs. Arun Kumar and Arora then took the score 172 before Arora and Kumar lost their wickets in quick succession. KDVA to host their annual presentation evening

T h e K w a D u k u z a Volleyball Association will host their Annual Awards and Presentation evening this Friday, 4 December 2015 at the a s s o c i a t i o n c o u r t s commencing at 7pm. Teams and players will be honoured at the function for their outstanding achievements throughout the 2015 volleyball season in both league and knock out tournaments.

Sizwe Makhanya from the Stanger Kyolinshin Karate Dojo, represented South Africa at the Oyama Swaziland Champs of Champs 2015 tournament and was placed first against opposition from Swaziland, Zimbabwe and South Africa this past Saturday.

Makhanya said that he was extremely proud having competed against the best from three countries and coming out tops. He thanked his instructor Shihan Gumede for the skills that he has transferred to him. He also thanked Sempai Fisohihle Mhlongo for his moral and financial support. Makhanya said that if it was not for these two gentlemen, he would not have been where he is today.

Makhanya said that he is busy training for an international tournament that will take place in the New Year so that he can be at his best to bring back honours.

Owen Govender (19) and Arhad Singh (12) all contributed to the score. All of Hillary Malvern's bowlers contributed with W. Wopenaar returning with figures of 10/1/24/2.

Dawnheights, with this victory lie at the summit of the log and remain unbeaten. Umlazi lie in second place just a point behind.

In their chase, Hillary/Malvern were all out for 208 in 44.2 overs. Suveer Maharaj and Mikhaylin

Naicker wreaked havoc with Maharaj claiming 3 scalps for 44 runs from 10 overs whilst Naicker claimed 2 wickets for 53 runs from 10 overs.

Meanwhile, iLembe Cricket Club tasted their first defeat in Stream I when they went down to Amanzimtoti by 5 wickets in a league game played at Gledhow grounds. Amanzimtoti won the toss and sent in iLembe to bat first. iLembe were bowled out

106 in the 36th over with the top scorers being A. Sarwar (26), Y. Ismail (15) D. Rautenbach (11) and Sher (10) being the only batsmen to reach double figures.

J. Michaux was the pick of the bowlers for Amanzimtoti picking up 3 wickets for 29 runs from 10 overs. He was assisted by J. Jones, D. Kauphermann and J.J. de Wet who all claimed 2 wickets each.

Amanzimtoti reached 108/5 in the 22nd over with the top batsmen being Kauphermann (33) Q. Grobbelaar (20), D. Reddy (12) and R. R. Smith (11). The destroyer in chief for Dawnheights was Alviero Nadesan who claimed 3 wickets for a mere 16 runs 3.5 overs.

After these round of fixtures, iLembe find themselves in second place, 4 points behind log leaders Clares Cricket Club with Amanzimtoti breathing down their necks by a solitary point in 3rd place.

Iiembe Netball hosted a successful closing tournament on Saturday, 28 Novenber 2015 at Melville Netball Courts. This is an annual event where all the cream of players from the District participate and compete. The tournament was won by King Shaka in the female category and Shooting Stars won males category.

The teams were assisted in terms of transport and the organisers thanked the Local Municipalit ies for their assistance. The association anticipates the growing of netball in the district and to unleash the talent and produce more players that wi l l participate at a higher level.

Govender named Player of the year

KwaDukuza Darts Association brought the curtains down on the 2015 darts season when they hosted their annual presentation evening at the Quartz Conference Centre last Friday with Jerry Govender waltzing away with the coveted 'Player of the Year' award for his dedication and commitment towards the upliftment of darts in KwaDukuza. Govender has been a long standing player,

administrator and president of the darts association for a number of years and he was recognised f o r h i s dedication.

improved player of the year. Awards were handed out to all winners and runners up in the different singles, d o u b l e s , t r e b l e s a n d t e a m competitions. Gledhow Darts Club waltzed away with the bulk of the awards after winning the KSST Engineering league, the Distel-Richelieu League and the Trophies Engravers League with Isithebe Paints winning the Hooblal's Darts League. Gledhow Darts Club made up of Darrel Shanmagum, Neeran Somnath, Paddy Padayachee, Terrence Pillay, Vigen Murugan and Ashley Padayachee also featured in the other awards namely the singles, doubles and trebles.

Guest of honour, well known sportsman and ex-teacher, Deena Govender said that he was extremely proud with the darts association in the manner in which they

carried out their affairs with sound administration. He thanked the officials and players for their dedication and their commitment of keeping the sport alive.

Jerry Govender, President of KDDA, in his presentation said that

excellence is not a small and private flame to be guarded and kept safe and out of sight. He added that greatness is a spark that grows as it leaps from mind to mind and passes from hand to hand.Govender con t inuedsaying that our greatness increases as we recognize the greatness of others and that they were gathered to celebrate excellence in the association of darts.

He acknowledged and sent out his sincere thanks to all players and their f a m i l i e s f o r t h e i rcommitment and support for the games of darts.
