It is alleged that protesters were not happy with former A N C a n d f o r m e r independent Ward Councillor Rabi Singh standing for the ruling party in Glenhills (Ward 13).
Contrary to rumours, the protest did not involve i ssues of service delivery.

KwaDukuza fraudster nabbed
By Xpress Reporter
Local KwaDukuza citizen, Ahmed Omarjee (33), appeared briefly in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 1 June 2016 on charges of fraud.
Omarjee was also sought by the International Criminal Police Organization ICPO or INTERPOL, an intergovernmental organization facilitating international police cooperation.
According to KZN SAPS Media officer, Lieutenant Colonel Shooz Magudulela, a complainant alleges that on 25 October 2015 at about 10:00, he was approached by a known man, who convinced him to invest in a business and he promised him a huge return on the investment.
“He deposited the money into the suspects account and suspect failed to

According to the Sunday Tribune Herald “He (Omarjee) allegedly told people that he had been awarded tenders by the municipality to provide submersible water pumps and needed investors to fund operations.”
“He would then produce a fraudulent letterhead from the municipality to confirm the award of his business contract.”
The Xpress Times office was inundated with calls from irate locals who invested large sums of money with Omarjee, saying that they are pleased with the arrest and hope that justice is served as he took friends and family for a ride.
Lieutenant KM Reddy, urges all investors who have not yet contacted him to do so at 082 458 5630.

Jabulile was armed with a stick and the man warned them before shooting both of them with a pellet gun in the arm and chest. Both men

Zondi was rushed to hospital and claims he knows no reason as to why he was attacked. Nonthandazo Mhlongo (33) alleges Zondi caused a scene at her house, hence the attack. She is due back at court on 14 July.

Water Price increase ATT: MAYOR WELCOME NDABE (ILEMBE
MUNICIPALITY)If you didn't waste 120 million rand on hiring water
tankers, we should have no increase for water for the next five years. Better still you should have bought 50 tankers for 50 million rand and had an asset.
Fix all water leaks and we won't have to pay an increase. You are over staffed by 25% so please over the next two years cut your staff and this will save an increase in tariff. We the citizens of Ilembe must protest in front of the Ilembe offices. That is the only time we will get results.

Luthuli and Kennedy to be immortalised
The year 2016 marks 50 years of the historic meeting of the late Robert F Kennedy and Chief Albert Luthuli. The South African government will be erecting statures of both men at the Luthuli museum, the home of Luthuli, the place where they both met in 1966 to mark the l e g a c y o f t h i s h i s t o r i c engagement.
“The plan to erect the statures of both men has to happen as a permanent reminder for peace, prosperity and the value of human freedom”, said the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa speaking during the 50th Anniversary of Kennedy and Luthuli meeting in Groutville.
Kennedy came to South Africa during a time of difficulty but he carried with him, hope to the oppressed South Africans.
As KwaDukuza municipality, the 31st of May is a day which
HISTORIC: US Ambassador to SA - Patrick Gaspard and the Minister of Arts and culture - Mr Nathi Mthethwa breaking the soil
HONOURING LEGACY: KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu laying wreaths at the grave of the late Chief Albert Luthuli
gave us an opportunity to reflect on the shared history with the American people.
Under the stewardship of President-General Luthuli the ANC adopted the Freedom
Charter, a mere six years before he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
We cannot imagine how we would ach ieve our ownliberation without the support of the international community in the campaign to isolate the apartheid regime. Senator Robert Kennedy's visit in 1966 added impetus to the struggle and by his words and deeds he sent the ripple of hope the struggling masses of our country needed to spare nothing of their energy to strike a decisive blow to the apartheid system.
They also recorded the history of the naming of this town after Dr Will iam Stanger, the Surveyor-General who laid the plans for the town. In 1966 a moment that was to change the cause of the liberation struggle and heralding of a new era in the human solidarity was also recorded.

Observing World Oceans Day
By Xpress Reporter
World Oceans Day is observed today, 8 June 2016, and aims to raise awareness of the role of the oceans and the importance of conserving and protecting our marine environment.
The 8th of June is observed internationally as World Oceans Day. While the day has been unofficially celebrated since the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, in December 2008, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to officially recognise World Oceans Day on June 8 each year.
This special day is an opportunity to celebrate the world's shared oceans and to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in peoples' lives. The oceans are essential to food security and the health and survival of all life. They also power our climate and are a critical part of the biosphere. World Oceans Day is an opportunity to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.

Pothole Radar came about because of the Xpress Times constantly being bombarded with complaints from the community about potholes that have failed to get the attention it deserves from the authorities. In the interest of road safety and awareness we introduce this periodical column (in its third appearance) for the public to send in pictures (approximate date and age of pothole) with the street address. Contact the Xpress Times on 032 552 2165 or email [email protected]
We can report that this week potholes were reported by citizens covering most of KwaDukuza with Erasmus Dam, Town view, Stanger Heights, Stanger Manor and Clarke Road.
NEGLECT: This picture surfaced
from the Townview Area (Ward 19) where one pothole got covered and the one next to it left bare. This area
was reported to a KDM official for over two weeks
Day in South Africa allows us to highlight the impact of oceans on our country and the various ways in which oceans contribute to our country. Celebrating the day provides thedepartment with an opportunity to highlight the considerable challenges we face in dealing with marine pollution, maintaining the oceans' capacity to regulate the global climate, supply essential ecosystem services and provide sustainable livelihoods and safe recreation.
The celebration of the day coincides with and forms part of the dedication of June as National Environment Month.

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali dies at 74“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee”Heavyweight boxing legend
Muhammad Ali, an icon of the 20th Century whose fame transcended the sport during a remarkable career that spanned three decades, died Friday, his family said.
The beloved 74-year-old sports hero, who had been battling Parkinson's disease for decades, passed away in a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where he had been admitted earlier this week suffering from respiratory problems.
"After a 32-year battle with P a r k i n s o n ' s d i s e a s e , Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74," spokesman Bob Gunnell said.
"The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening."
Funeral arrangements for Ali would be announced on Saturday, he added.
Concern for Ali had grown throughout Friday, and tributes immediately poured in for "The Greatest," who was known globally not only for his storied ring career but also for his humanitarian activism.
Ali had been hospitalized multiple times in recent years.
He spent time in hospital in 2014 after suffering a mild case of pneumonia and again in 2015 for a urinary tract infection.
His Parkinson's, thought to be linked to the thousands of punches he took during a brutal career studded by bruising battles inside the ropes, had limited his public

speaking.But he continued to make
appearances and o f fe r
opinions through his family members and spokespeople.
In April, he attended a
Celebrity Fight Night Dinner in Phoenix that raised funds for treatment of Parkinson's.
In December, he issued a statement rebuking US presidential hopeful Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States.
" M u h a m m a d A l i transformed this country and impacted the world with his spirit," said longtime boxing promoter Bob Arum. "His legacy will be part of our history for all time."
His 30-year career, which stretched from 1960 to 1981 and saw him retire with a record of 56-5, included such historic bouts as the Rumble in the Jungle -- against George Foreman in 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaire.
Other defining moments of his career included two knockouts of Sonny Liston and his thrilling rivalry with Joe Frazier -- which saw the two men slug it out in the ring and verbally spar out of it.
"Ali, Frazier and Foreman, we were 1 guy. A part of me slipped away -- the greatest piece" Foreman wrote on Twitter shortly after Ali's death was announced.
F o r m e r h e a v y w e i g h t champion Mike Tyson added: "God came for his champion. S o l o n g g r e a t o n e . @ M u h a m m a d A l i #TheGreatest #RIP."
Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr in Louisvi l le , Kentucky, dazzled fans with slick moves in the ring, and
with his wit and engaging persona outside it.
His refusal to serve in the Vietnam War saw him banned from the sport for years, but the US Supreme Court overturned his conviction for draft dodging in 1971.
He took the name of M u h a m m a d A l i a f t e r converting to Islam in 1964, soon after he had stunned the sport by claiming the title with a monumental upset of Sonny Liston.
He was vilified in some quarters for that conversion and his outspoken stance on Vietnam and civil rights issues, but he held firm to his beliefs and eventually earned accolades as an activist.
He was chosen to light the Olympic torch in 1996 in Atlanta and was named a UN messenger of peace in 1998.
He received the highest US c i v i l i a n h o n o r , t h ePres iden t i a l Meda l o fFreedom, in 2005.
Many a local had the opportunity to watch Ali dazzle on television, but a few watched the Ali fights live. Local businessman and former SA boxing referee, Yusuf (Jerry) Mather, witnessed the A l i v e r s u s C o o p e rchampionship fight; in person at the Royal Albert Hall in May1966. This is what Mather had to say: “I have watched boxing all my life, and Muhammad Ali remains the best boxer of all time. He is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.”

Ballito Pro presented by BillabongThe 2016 Ballito Pro presented
by Billabong, Media and Partner Breakfast was held at Zucca Restaurant in Salt Rock on Tuesday, 7 June 2016. Various partners and officials including KwaDukuza Municipali ty Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu attended the event.
The Ballito Pro presented by Billabong will be hosted from 22 June to 3 July 2016.
Reigning world champion Adriano de Souza (BRA) heads a potent line-up of elite surfers for the 2016 Ballito Pro presented by Billabong that runs from June 27 3 July at Willard Beach in KwaDukuza.
Entries for the first World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series QS10,000 rated event to be staged in 2016 closed on Thursday with more than 150 local and international surfers applying for a start in the 112 man-field who will contest the 48th edition of the world's longest running professional surfing event.
De Souza, who clinched the 2015 WSL title when he became the first Brazilian to win the iconic Pipeline Masters in Hawaii in December, will be joined by three more of the world's top 10 ranked surfers, namely Sebastian Zietz (HAW), winner of the recent Margaret River pro; Caio Ibelli (BRA), who leads the 2016 Rookie of the Year standings; and South Africa's own Jordy Smith, currently ranked No. 7 and the 2010 Ballito champion and 2013 runner-up.
“I feel a bit of extra pressure at Ballito but I always want to win so badly in front of everyone at home,” Smith said. “Now that I live abroad people don't get to see me surf as much, and the support is always so crazy, so I'll be trying extra hard.”
A total of 15 of the elite top 34 ranked competitors on the WSL Championship Tour (CT) will be in the mix at Ballito with exciting talents like Jack Freestone (AUS), the runner-up
KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor, Councillor Ricardo Mthembu
Event Coordinator, Collette Bundy
in the last CT event at Rio de Janeiro; perennial standout Jeremy Flores (FRA), who was forced to withdraw from last year's event due to injury; and defending Ballito Pro champion Alejo Muniz (BRA) all lighting up the waves.
With a total prize-purse of US $260 000 (about R4 million) is on offer, of which US $40 000 and a massive 10,000 points on the QS leaderboard goes to the winner, the event has also attracted entries from all of the top 10 QS ranked surfers, including Italian prodigy Leonardo Fioravanti, Dion Atkinson (AUS) and American brothers Tanner and Patrick Gudauskas who won at Ballito in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
In addition to Smith, the South African challenge for the title will come from Beyrick de Vries from nearby uMhlanga and
Michael February (Kommetjie), who at No. 36 is the highest ranked local. Jeffreys Bay residents Dylan Lightfoot and Matt McGillivray have been awarded the wildcards that go to the country's two highest ranked QS surfers who do not automatically qualify for the event.
The two wildcards awarded by the WSL and two from sponsors Billabong have not yet been named. They will be joined in the main event by the winner of the all South African, 32-man Ballito Pro Trials, which will be run on Sunday June 26 at Willard Beach.
The QS1,000 rated Ballito Women's Pro will start on Sunday and run in conjunction with the men's event. The Bil labong Junior Series , featuring JQS1,000 events for under-18 boys and girls, will be
